Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

I know this isn’t a new point, and most people here probably already understand it, but based on some of the debates I keep seeing in posts, it needs to be said again for those who havent heard this point 1million times:

Canadian gun owners need to stop pretending there is some magical middle ground where firearms are protected, but nobody has to support actual "american style" gun rights. That doesn’t exist. If firearms are not protected as a right, they exist entirely at the discretion of the government. That means every election, every panic, every bad-faith law, and every uninformed chode/cunt in a suit can chip away at them. (And they don't come back once chipped if you've noticed).

The PAL is a perfect example that might shock some "moderates" here. On paper, licensing sounds reasonable. I also don't want my retard neighbours to own guns. But in practice, the system around it has been used again and again to justify more restrictions, more classifications, more bans, and more hoops. People warned about that exact thing when it was introduced and yet were laughed off as paranoid. "Told you so" is an understatment.

So at some point people need to be honest about what they want. Either you want firearm ownership protected as an actual right, or you accept that it will keep being slowly regulated out of existence. Being afraid of “American-style” gun rights while complaining about Canadian-style gun laws is not a serious position to take. You can moan about it all you like, but that's the reality you live in.

I unironically respect people who want all guns banned MORE than those who still think they can ever satisfy the government.

Gun licenses are for countries that actually want to work with the people in good faith. See the Czech Republic and Finland. Canada is not a county where the government wants to work with its people in good faith.

This is the right answer, the LPC is one of the most corrupt power hungry parties in recent Canadian history. The absolute disdain they have for the average citizen and the truth is off the charts it’s not just guns, it’s everything.

When they were pushing the ev mandate cbc did a report on eve performance in the winter and it was bad, Stephen Guilbeaut outright told the reporters they’re wrong and they just don’t understand what they’re saying (even though they literally rented and drove a Tesla model 3 in the winter). The man outright denied their reality because it didn’t fit his world view.

PAL, RPALS, statistics blah blah, the LPC don’t care, they will lie and obfuscate everything until they achieve what they want achieved, which is more power for them and no power for anyone.

Look at Gary right now for bill C-22, his only argument is every single corporate lawyer actually doesn’t understand how good the bill is, the tech companies are reading it wrong and he’s the only one who’s right.

You can’t negotiate with these people in good faith. Full stop

You can't negotiate with people who don't really want to negotiate. They will pretend to want to but in reality it will quickly become a "Nuh uh your wrong I'm right." Rather then a actual thoughtful convo.
