Competitions/matches Recently started my journey on becoming an "Olympic" sports shooter.

Recently started attending bullseye/sport pistol practices at the gun club. I also plan to compete in sanctioned SFC matches as well. This is the gun that I've chosen to borrow from the club in the meantime. It's a Ruger Mark II Target. The gun belongs to the club but I will stick to using this exact model every time so I can build familiarity with it.

Hopefully by the end of the year I will have accumulated enough practice sessions and matches to get an exemption letter so I can buy my own "Olympic" style handgun.

I know the state of firearm laws in Canada are trash at the moment but I will continue to enjoy the sport/hobby any way I can.

Competitions/matches Ottawa Area - Olympic Exemption Opportunity – ADRRA Handgun Competition June 20

Post image
190 Upvotes

EDIT: Important clarification: this is not a “show up and get an exemption letter” event.

Please do not spam Ed with general exemption/process questions. If you are new to ISSF, the better first step is to join a club that actively shoots ISSF Sport Pistol and/or Standard Pistol, learn the rules, participate regularly, and work toward the exemption letter properly through competition experience.

Arnprior District Revolver & Rifle Association is hosting handgun matches in Arnprior, and there is still space available for Saturday, June 20. The June 21 date is already full.

For anyone in the Ottawa area who is already interested in or actively working toward ISSF Sport Pistol and/or Standard Pistol, this could be a good opportunity to compete and continue working toward the Olympic exemption pathway.

Also, the exemption pathway being discussed here is for .22LR target pistols only. It is not for larger-calibre handguns, centre-fire pistols, defensive pistols, or general restricted handgun purchases.

The match is being run by Ed, and he only has a limited number of handguns available to lend for the competition, so loaner availability is first come, first served.

To register, go to:

www.targetscores.com and register for the standard and sport pistol events.

BRING CASH FOR THE COMPETITION FEE

Also email Ed directly for details and ask to borrow a hangun:

[arnpriordrra@gmail.com](mailto:arnpriordrra@gmail.com)

Shooters should have a basic understanding of ISSF Sport Pistol and/or ISSF Standard Pistol rules, match structure, commands, safety expectations, and competition etiquette.

When reaching out, you can let Ed know Danny sent you, but please make sure you are contacting him for the actual match and not just asking how to get the exemption.

Additional match dates are tentatively planned for July 25–26 and August 22–23, depending on participation and interest.

No prizes — just a good opportunity to compete, get experience, and work toward the Olympic exemption pathway.

Here's my previous post on what I obtained through the exemption

Competitions/matches IPSC - Rifle Discipline

Hello everyone,

I am looking to get into practical/competitive shooting but as you know recent bans made it impossible to get a handgun. Is the rifle discipline of IPSC active in Ontario?

Can I join the black badge program with a semi-auto? If not, is it possible to rent a handgun solely for IPSC shooting? Are there ranges/clubs that allow practical shooting with a rifle?

I am located in GTA and unfortunately couldn’t find a lot of information online. I can travel so doesn’t have to be in the GTA.

Competitions/matches Had the chance to shoot a match suppressed down in Texas recently.

Went to Texas for the Leupold Best in Texas PRS match last weekend. The match director asked if I wanted to shoot the match suppressed and I just couldn't say no. So he loaned me his SilencerCo and off I went.

Its ridiculous that we can't have these here. Its straight up PPE. High volume shooting usually leaves me with a headache after a few hundred rounds but this left me feeling normal

Competitions/matches You said "get out and shoot", right?

Does a weekend at a match with athletes from across Canada and several other countries count? A significant portion of Team Canada was in attendance.

Competitions/matches ISPC - Beginner

Good afternoon,

I am interested in getting my black badge and becoming an ISPC member. However, with the current handgun bans im unsure of the organization has been affected due to the freeze on handguns. I can’t find any info about using shotguns in the organization within Ontario.

Is it still possible to become a member? I have my PAL and RPAL, but I don’t own a handgun. I do own a shotgun.

Shot in a big annual sporting clays even my club hosts, Friday Saturday and Sunday. I competed in a higher class this time than I did last year, and managed a bronze in the preliminary and another in the main event. I also shot in the sub-gauge event on Friday and scored high over-all for 20 gauge (which was also high over all for all sub-gauges)

20 gauge understandably doesn't get the same clout as 28 and .410, but to my credit I used a 91 year old gun with a fixed full choke. Over all just a damn good weekend!

Competitions/matches Looking for a couple of people to provide feedback on a firearm website.

I've made an app that I wanted to make for a while. It's really just a website and not installable yet, but it runs fine on a phone.
The main purpose of the site is to upload a photo of your target, describe the firearm / ammo used and then get your shot data from the photo. You can make friends and compete in a match with them too.
I'm privacy focused and you don't need to put in a name, and you can control your own data.
If anyone is interested, please PM me and I'll send you the URL.
PS. Not a Fed :)
PPS. I had to tag this post and didn't see one that I liked so I just put "Cometitions/matches" because this can possibly fit there.

Competitions/matches LADIES! Leggings with beltloops for belt and holster???

I am having a hell of a time finding leggings with belt loops in Canada for my IPSC belt...

I have only found sites that are from the US, so I am looking for any recommendations for sites or stores in Canada that sell legging/yoga pant style pants with belt loops in them!

Thank you in advance!

Competitions/matches [BC] IPSC and IDPA style shotgun shooting on Vancouver Island or the mainland?

Hi everyone:

I'm in Victoria and looking to get into IDPA/ISPC style shotgun competitions.

  1. Is there anyone that runs informal/formal shotgun competitions like this?
  2. Is there anyone who offers training courses for doing the above?

I know the Victoria Fish & Game Protective Association has a multi-purpose range that comes close to this. However, I'm pretty sure that is 3-gun and/or pistol-only which I can't do because I missed the boat on buying handguns. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

I'm open to travelling to the mainland on occasion too, but would prefer to stay on the island if I can help it.

Thanks!

Competitions/matches Steel Challenge at BTSA 2026

Post image
14 Upvotes

The snow is thawing and the season is back up and running! Weekly Wednesday 4 stage matches, monthly 8 stage weekend matches, and Canadian Nationals August 15/16 (Steelchallenge.ca).

You can see all the matches for the season at BTSA.club/events. Great for beginners both young and old, those without pistols (rimfire rifle is the most popular division), and those that like to shoot fast. No cardboard to patch. No black badge needed, though we will want to see safe draw mechanics at the safe table before the match if you are new to competition. We’re happy to coach as needed.

Any questions, feel free to ask here or reach out to steel@btsa.club

Competitions/matches 2 gun/3 gun?

Hey folks, I'm curious what the status of 2/3 gun events in Canada and BC in particular.

Always wanted to try it, but with the bans what is there to use with a semi? homesteader, sks or a .22?
