Buy recommendations Glass Recommendations for an Ultra-Light .22?

Post image
39 Upvotes

Oh wise reddit sages, lend me your knowledge.

I'm trying to decide on an optic for this little beauty. Started considering Leupold® VX-Freedom 2-7x33mm but I think I've settled on the VX-3HD 2.5-8x36 CDS-ZL Duplex, unless you heros have an alternative.

I was considering the vx3hd because it's dead simple and very light. This platform only weighs 3.5 lbs, so I'd like to complement it with light glass.

Use case on this one will be mostly for the gf to plink, she thinks it's pretty, but it'll also larp as a shtf small game hunter. Figured it's light weight will be a benefit if you're half starved. Bonus, about 200 rounds fit in the hollow stock.

Budget isn't really an issue, and can go up a bit if the value translates.

Waddya got??!?

*UPDATE After doing more digging I ended up ordering a Tract 22 Fire 4-12x40 AO EFR T-Plex Dot with Warne medium steel rings. Reviews put it at least on par with the Leupold freedom line's glass quality, only 16 oz, has adjustable parallax, quick reset turrets and the owner is awesome / easy to reach and gave a 5% discount because it was my first time buying with them.

Could probably save an ounce or three with different rings but I'm not going to split hairs as the platform will still be under 5 lbs

Misc future of tuf-22 magazines?

So based on some threads here and CGN, pretty much the last shipment of the HC3R tuf-22 magazines has come and gone.

Combining that with Dlask officially closed, are there any plans for another company to make something similar? Realistically, couldn't someone just make new shells for bx-15/25 magazines that have the same notch?

Otherwise as of right now the only other option is u/SpectreBallistics's 597 adapter and their receivers come cut for Tuf-22 magazines.

Shooting Hitting a wall at 200/300 yards. Glass getting fuzzy at 16x (Tikka T3x TAC A1 + Vortex Diamondback)

Hey everyone,

I’m still pretty green to the precision game—only have about 150 rounds through my setup so far—and I’m running into some optical frustration that I could use some guidance on.

My Setup:

Rifle: Tikka T3x TAC A1

Optic: Vortex Diamondback Tactical 4-16x44

The Problem:

Once I try to shoot past 200 yards, things get tough. At 200 yards, I really struggle to see my points of impact on the target. By the time I push out to 300 yards, seeing impact holes is completely out of the question.

To try and fix this, I naturally crank the magnification up to 16x, but the image gets pretty muddy and fuzzy at the high end. It feels like I'm fighting the glass just to get a clear picture.

My Question:

Am I missing something fundamental with my adjustments (like diopter/eyepiece focus or parallax), or am I simply hitting the physical limitations of this glass?

If it's an adjustment issue, what steps should I take to clean up the image? If it's a gear limitation, I'm open to suggestions on what I should replace it with to actually grow into this rifle.

Appreciate any advice you guys can throw my way!

Update 1:
I decided to go with the Bushnell Match Pro 5-30x56mm

Buy recommendations Winchester 1892 recoil pad

I have a new production Winchester 1892 in .357Mag. It has the classic crescent buttplate style, which I find to be very uncomfortable to shoot because of the pointy ends. I'm looking for a rubber recoil pad like the limbsaver ones, I wanted to hear your recommandation for the best ones and to be sure to get one that fits.

Exporting firearms, ammunition, parts and accessories from the US: most items are controlled under ITAR and you cannot, as an individual, export these items from the USA. Canada does not care in most cases. If you attempt to bring any of these items across the border yourself and you are caught, you will face prison time in the US. Misc Derya TM22 mag issue

Thumbnail

I just got a TM22 with 12" barrel, came with a 10 rd mag that feeds perfectly.

I bought a couple of the Derya 15rd mags, but it doesnt insert well at all. On inspection, there is a difference in the rear notch of the mags. Is this an issue for anyone else? I'm wondering if I should return it, or should I try sanding it. Don't want to mess it up if there's a different version of the 15rd mag I'm supposed to get.

Thanks

Application / Regulation advice Export questions

Im a Canadian living in the US. I wouldn’t normally bother because I can just buy guns hassle free south of border, but there is an old Colt pistol of a relative in Canada that I may inherit and would be worth going through the importation into the US process. It doesn’t look too bad using an export service like Borderview or Irunguns, except one thing, the Canadian Law. As this is an heirloom piece (collecting dust hasn’t been shot in decades) I’m not sure if it is registered, and I also am not entirely sure the relative is licensed correctly. Hence my questions.

  1. Obviously there is going to be no possible way to export until it is registered if it isn’t already. If it was registered, the person exporting it from Canada would also need their restricted to arrange transport to the customs broker? Any way around that to still have it transported to broker without restricted?
  2. I do have friends with RPAL in Canada, can someone with an RPAL could go about the process of having an old unregistered pistol registered with the RCMP? To turn around and help me with an export.

Trying to stay fully above board here and see what would be lawfully involved , quite a bit more hoops to jump through on the Canada side to even have it leave there.

Anyone experienced anything like this?

Just picked this up today!

Installed the mesa tactical rail/saddle.

So far from a take down and oil..im pretty impressed!

Like its a polymer shotgun, so it just feels completely different then a mossberg.

But i lile how its built, magazine cut-off, out of battery assist. (Not sure of what its really called)..

The loading gate locks upwards.

I'm still a mossberg guy through and through..

But i could see this being really fun and it would be a great all weather gun.

A vent rib supernova i could see being a great upland/ bird gun.

Milsurps / Prohib Help buying first Mosin 91/30? What's the going price these days? Price Check?

Thumbnail
gunpost.ca
22 Upvotes

I am looking to buy a Mosin 91/30, and I came across an ad on GunPost for one in supposedly good condition for $900.

$900 is much too high for a standalone rifle, but the listing includes 375 rounds of ammo.

The total price seems reasonable considering the ammunition, even though the rifle itself would be expensive on its own.

I have read a few comments here mentioning that this particular seller tends to overprice their items, so I wanted to see what others think?

For around $669 CAD for the rifle plus $230 CAD for the ammo, is this a fair price or is it overpriced?

What do Canadian Mosin experts think?
