Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

I am not a proud Canadian

I got a kick how infuriated people were in the main Canada sub when I said I hadn't called myself Canadian in years, and I didn't feel like I fit in here. Like yeah, I don't feel welcome. When my interest in firearms apparently makes me a latent criminal in the eyes of government and certain Canadians.

Yes, I don't feel Canadian, and haven't for some time.

How much of the Canada sub are paid to post there?

u/Lumindan 2d ago

Probably a good chunk but what should concern you more is the amount of people that do it for free. They genuinely believe what they're saying. Terrifying no?

Why would anyone want to be associated with this nation or most nations in fact is amusing considering besides a small handful of nations how many can honestly be considered net positives to the world and there citizens? Certainly not Canada that's for sure based on our history and the current way the state treats us the peons.

Why would anyone want to be associated with this nation or most nations in fact

Keep in mind, I went to university for humanities, of which I only learned the basics, but it was informative. And that education certainly informs my take on this.

I'm a bit of an anarchist, and certainly anti-nationalist, so I really don't understand or support concepts like chauvinism, or exceptionalism. But I do grasp why people want a place to belong. Truthfully, when I see all this Canadian patriotism going around, I grasp why it's happening, but the fact is, this new fervor is actively pushing away the out groups (subcultures, etc) even further.

This is what happens when a society starts leaning to heavily in one direction, in this case, societal collectivism or nationalism. Canada is headed in that direction, just like Japan. Japanese society places a high value on group harmony and social conformity, meaning that behavior disrupting public order or consensus (or in Canada's case, peace and politness) is often discouraged.

Which is fine if you fit in but...

On the other hand, the US leans in the opposite direction, hyper individualism, with, what I judge, to be poor results. (An unpopular take on this sub no doubt).

Society is a balance. Not one thing or the other. When society begins focusing on one thing to the exclusion of others, that's a failure of society.

Our society doesn't like like it's interested in maintaining balance anymore.

No, it isn't.

Canada's problem is that it's Toronto/Ottawa/Montreal (and Vancouver) vs. the rest of the country. This has been true since about 1867.

The US has checks in its government systems against this. We do not. Witness the results.

I don't share a culture with these people (even the word "Canadian" is manufacturing their consensus), and there's no reason they should be making law for me.

Frankly I'm not all that big a fan of Japan America did a shit job rebuilding it. Could have made it like Switzerland but nope they wanted a good little puppet.

Eh it's not entirely wrong but that's kind of what they claim not always the reality after all the consider "corporations" people to an absurd degree. Because it's hyper individualisms hard bullshit everyone for themselves for the peons bailouts for the rich and companies.

"Our society doesn't like like it's interested in maintaining balance anymore."

Did it ever though? Like looking at Canada's history it's just a state stomping on certain out groups of people anytime they questioned why things were this way.

Arguably, they've already done that to us. 50% of Canada's economy is owned by Americans according to StatsCan.

Eh it's not entirely wrong but that's kind of what they claim not always the reality after all the consider "corporations" people to an absurd degree.

You can thank Ronald Reagan for that. Guy paved the way for oligarchs.

Well, that's just it isn't it? Hyper individualism thrives on peons.

Yeah, that's true. It's just that I remember a time where cooperation and understanding were expressed as Canadian values, and actually practiced. But that could be me putting on rose tinted glass and looking through the foggy mirror of time.

"You can thank Ronald Reagan for that. Guy paved the way for oligarchs."

Also a big reason why California has worse gun laws then most of America because of the Black Panthers.

Sadly I think those are rose tinted like what time would you say this was. Certainly not when being gay was illegal. Or certain groups of people were being put into camps so arguably no time before World War 2. And anything before 1969 if you were gay I'd say there was certainly a lack of understanding. And if you're Indigenous well shit man I can't think of a time ever in Canadian history. Like maybe certain communities in Canada had these values but the nation and the nation state? Not so much.

I can't tell you how many American gun guys melt down when I mention that.

My rose tinted glasses were taking me back to the 2000s (more specifically, 2000-2011) but now I that I think about it, you're right. It was bad back then too.

"(more specifically, 2000-2011)"

I don't know that entire time when I think of it I think of the 2008 financial crisis.

Maybe it's because of where I lived? Granted, I was only in my late teens in 2008 so...

Yeah, Canada is just awful, all because you can't buy an AR and play SEAL team dress up.

You need a big time fuckin reality check lol

u/InitialAd4125 19m ago

Nah it's awful because it has neo slavery and treats corporations better then it's people. It awful because to the state us peons are nothing more then chattel. It's awful because of the massive fucking double standards and hypocrisy.

You will be a proud member of the European Union

u/Borealbound 2d ago

I have been a Western Secessionist since the Chretien years.

No I do not favour American annexation, despite having lived in the US for years. I favour utilizing Saskatchewan’s uranium deposits as a deterrent.

u/mangobludden 1d ago

I still am, however this government and it's system must be abolished by whatever means necessary in order for this country to start becoming great again.

Being ashamed of your nation because of its bad government is a losing mentality. They want you to be ashamed of your heritage. Don’t. Heritage Canadians largely aren’t the people voting for this insanity anyway

Yes they are: it's 65+ vs. everyone else, don't kid yourself.

3

u/Hot-Layer-7624 1d ago

No they aren’t, look at the ethnicity statistics from the last election, it was just about a bigger predictor than age

3

u/Q-Ball7 In the end, it's taxes all the way down 1d ago

it was just about a bigger predictor

...meaning that no, it's not actually as big.

Heritage Canadians also voted to import them in the first place.

Mind you, a large chunk of boomers were brought here via the family reunification program. It stands regardless that if only white and native people voted it would have been a conservative supermajority. Just move to the states if you hate your country so much, but I promise they’ll be in the same position as us in a few years

...that's literally what the LPC is. (CPCs are reformers.)

but I promise they’ll be in the same position as us in a few years

Politically speaking, Canada is usually about 5 years behind the US. So the fact we're currently going through a massive conservative temper tantrum (as in "prevent all of our economic and social mistakes from being corrected")? Well, that was the US from 2020-2024, so maybe "we'll" be over it by 2030.

I’d sell my citizenship for one timbit and then toss the timbit in Lake America on the way out.

6

u/boozefiend3000 3d ago

I should’ve paid attention in French class lol could probably move to Switzerland

6

u/I-LOVE-HENRY-RIFLES 3d ago

Move to Czech Republic

5

u/boozefiend3000 2d ago

Besides the gun aspect I’ve really got no desire to see Czechia lol Switzerland or Finland for me

5

u/Natural_Comparison21 3d ago

Switzerland is hard to move to. Finland on the other hand is easierish. Albeit you will want money before hand or a job lined up. You can also learn Swedish (which is not that hard for a native English speaker to learn.) It will take longer to get guns then Switzerland but pretty much you can in theory get whatever you want like Switzerland.

3

u/Beneficial-Ride-4475 3d ago

Italian is not that bad either, and Italy has broader options in terms of firearms availability too.

4

u/Natural_Comparison21 3d ago

I thought Italy was stricter then Finland when it came to firearms?

5

u/Beneficial-Ride-4475 3d ago edited 2d ago

In comparison to Finland? No, Italy doesn't have it better in that sense.

I was comparing Italy to Canada here. You can still own an FAL, or AR in in Italy. That's really what I ment.

Plus, good weather.

Learn swahili and move to africa to join a militia group, that way you can rise through the ranks and become second in command to the warlord (a foreigner becoming a warlord would be next to impossible since they wouldn't be familiar with all the tribal bs). Now you can get whatever gun you want.

u/OxfordTheCat 1d ago

I'd buy a lifetime worth of Timbits for anyone that threw you onto the other side of the border, you cuck.

-8

u/OxfordTheCat 1d ago

Oh yeah?

Where would you rather be?

Tell us about how you're so hard done by.

If you read past one comment you’d know where I wanted to go. I know you’re a pure fudd owner and none of our problems affect you, but being threatened with prison for owning property sure is a piss off
