Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Could have made it like Switzerland but nope they wanted a good little puppet.

Arguably, they've already done that to us. 50% of Canada's economy is owned by Americans according to StatsCan.

Eh it's not entirely wrong but that's kind of what they claim not always the reality after all the consider "corporations" people to an absurd degree.

You can thank Ronald Reagan for that. Guy paved the way for oligarchs.

Because it's hyper individualisms hard bullshit everyone for themselves for the peons bailouts for the rich and companies.

Well, that's just it isn't it? Hyper individualism thrives on peons.

Did it ever though? Like looking at Canada's history it's just a state stomping on certain out groups of people anytime they questioned why things were this way.

Yeah, that's true. It's just that I remember a time where cooperation and understanding were expressed as Canadian values, and actually practiced. But that could be me putting on rose tinted glass and looking through the foggy mirror of time.

Also a big reason why California has worse gun laws then most of America because of the Black Panthers.

Sadly I think those are rose tinted like what time would you say this was. Certainly not when being gay was illegal. Or certain groups of people were being put into camps so arguably no time before World War 2. And anything before 1969 if you were gay I'd say there was certainly a lack of understanding. And if you're Indigenous well shit man I can't think of a time ever in Canadian history. Like maybe certain communities in Canada had these values but the nation and the nation state? Not so much.

I can't tell you how many American gun guys melt down when I mention that.

My rose tinted glasses were taking me back to the 2000s (more specifically, 2000-2011) but now I that I think about it, you're right. It was bad back then too.

I was four at that point though I just look at things from a historical lens not personal.
