First the Vintorez (restricted due to barrel length) and now this. I guess there are still some sane people in the RCMP.

Unfortunately that doesn't mean its immune to future bans, as the government can override RCMP's NR decision at the stroke of a pen. For example, when the GSG-16 was explicitly deemed not a MP5 and therefore NR by the RCMP, they Liberals just added a paragraph in the OIC to name-ban it instead.

u/slvrus Apr 11 '26

Vintorez? Where?

76

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Apr 11 '26

Tactical Imports applied for it a few years ago and got approved. Unfortunately Canada currently has an embargo on Russian imports.

https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/threads/ma-vintorez-7-62.2534055/

20

u/Plasma_48 Apr 11 '26

I’ve been eyeing that, since I saw it on armalytics, definitely a grail gun.

25

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Apr 11 '26

In theory if you know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy, they can probably grab it from a different European country without an embargo and import it into Canada normally. Bonus points for 18.6" barrels.

12

u/Plasma_48 Apr 11 '26

Do you theoretically happen to know a guy? Or will I continue searching for the definitely not Russian made vintorez’?

8

u/Many-Presentation-56 Apr 11 '26

Some of the real Tula/TOZ VSS Vintorez civilian models in EU are going for 12k-15k euros now. So it’s pretty pricey nowadays. There are also the Molot clones as well and those are cheaper but still a few thousand euros are still available in various EU countries.

3

u/Baldbeardedblackguy Apr 11 '26

Dear God. 15k EUROS

12

u/DePoots Apr 11 '26

I would pay a stupid amount for a Vintorez. It’s my dream gun, so I really hope it makes its way here.

8

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Apr 11 '26

It's currently impossible to get directly from Russia due to war-related sanctions, but I'm sure there are other ways lol

1

u/slvrus Apr 11 '26

Why hasnt China started cloning them for us??

3

u/Many-Presentation-56 Apr 11 '26

I mean you can buy them, both the authentic Tula/TOZ VSS and Molot VSS clones are still available in EU. Prices are around 6k Euro for Molot clone and around 12-15k Euro for the original Tula model.

The issue more becomes if you want to risk importing it, as RCMP or Gov can currently just ban anything at anytime. Especially risky for the Tula/TOZ model as so far only the Molot model has a restricted FRT so it would take years to get it approved.

I love seeing people bring us new stuff, it's a struggle back and forth between us and the government, I just worry if the government thinks "oh there's enough semi autos back on the market, we need a new ban", then we may end up seeing ALL options get scooped up again. I'm going to remain optimistic and think this will not happen, but there's a little voice in the back of my head saying it might. It should not be this way, it's broken as fuck that they've made us all, lawful, tax paying working folks afraid of attracting the hammer of government for pursuing lawful activities, but that fear does still exist, for me at least.

I still would love to see this show up and be an option, I just worry it'll become the next Poly poster child for bans and risk attracting more attention to our limited options, but I do refuse to let them kill this hobby of ours.

these laws generating the most eclectic gun culture in the world in canada

L85 repros as one of the only legal autoloading 5.56 firearms and 16" revolver "carbines" as the closest thing to a handgun that you can buy rn.

23

u/HappyCan7250 Apr 11 '26

9" revolver carbines are available too, they get shorter than 16! The SR410 and I think SR45 (I think that's the name?" Both come in 9" if I recall correct

2

u/Xdust6 Apr 15 '26

You won’t believe it but they have it down to 5.1

8

u/conanap Apr 11 '26

What’s the revolver carbine?

11

u/Aarkryss Apr 11 '26

Probably the Heritage Rough Rider Rancher

2

u/conanap Apr 11 '26

Thanks!

1

u/Zlatanski Apr 11 '26

There's also the SRC-45 from Tactical Imports, chambered in 45LC/45 ACP

1

u/conanap Apr 11 '26

Thank you!

3

u/ItchYouCannotReach Apr 11 '26

Browning buckmark sporting carbine is NR

2

u/ArconC Apr 11 '26

I've been wanting to see what happens if a semiauto can be modded into an auto feeding single action like design to remove the semiauto label, so a brand new line of weird to collect

Deemed unreliable enough to not be an "assault style firearm" as it's more deadly as a club

11

u/Plasma_48 Apr 11 '26

If that’s deemed unreliable enough, then I have high hopes for the rifle I’m trying to import.

5

u/Hotdog_Broth Apr 11 '26

Tell that to the GSG16

8

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Apr 11 '26

At least that one looked black and scary. This one is green! See? Clearly harmless.

6

u/nlv137 Apr 11 '26

This one is green! See? Clearly hamas.

27

u/Brapika Apr 11 '26

Have 8 to 12 beers then she'll be looking good enough to take home.

-1

u/Foreign_Active_7991 Apr 11 '26

Are those all before or after work? Can I space them out over 10hr day? Am I still allowed to run heavy equipment or is it hand tools only?

34

u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) Apr 11 '26

Damn.

Well I stand corrected... I honestly would have guess this would be prohib as a 180 variant due to it's design history.

18

u/Ustauk Apr 11 '26

Mr. Motiuk is just down the road from you in Vegreville. I know a large production run is out of the question, but maybe you guys can partner for a limited run? You could probably get people to pay upfront  for each one coming off the line.

32

u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) Apr 11 '26

So... Doing limited runs of things are stupid expensive.

You'd need to do a few hundred guns minimum. And the first run of any part always takes forever.

Also, this isn't really what we'd work on. This thing is stamped steel I'm assuming and we don't have tooling or experience to do that. Same with injection molding for the polymer parts.

20

u/Ustauk Apr 11 '26

Thanks for giving a considerate answer!  Still might be interesting inviting Mr.Motiuk for pierogies and Ukranian garlic sausage at the Mundare Sausage House Ukranian restaurant; you could end up with co-devolping a bullpup 22 chassis , or something else cool and slightly insane :-p

-9

u/waitwhatnothing Apr 11 '26

Bullpup stocks/chassis are explicitly illegal.

2

u/noobte Apr 12 '26

only if its a conversion kit

1

u/waitwhatnothing Apr 12 '26

Yeah, which is what they were asking for? A bullpup 22 chassis would be a conversion. There are no bullpup 22s commonly available that you could make an alternative chassis for.

3

u/marston82 Apr 11 '26

You should get back into the straight pull 223 rifle game. Why did you stop manufacturing your 223 straight pull rifle again?

1

u/strickenchips Apr 11 '26

Honestly, I would love to buy an LPC

2

u/strickenchips Apr 11 '26

Is it at all practical to mill the stamped parts and print the polymer parts?

3

u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) Apr 11 '26

No

2

u/Few_Lynx2224 Apr 12 '26

We need a bullpup .22 please (make it take 10/22 barrels plz)

0

u/SuccessSeparate9014 Apr 11 '26

I guess the only thing you can do is make 22lrs

60

u/China_bot42069 Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

is this real? should we start the credit cards. What if provolone sees this

49

u/FireteamOrcale Apr 11 '26

Yes lol but he doesn’t have the means of mass production he was saying in the comments he’d happily license it but wouldn’t invest money into his own production until a government change

28

u/Late_Winner6859 Apr 11 '26

Can’t blame him, with the lunatics occupying the parliament - it’s kinda pointless.

15

u/FireteamOrcale Apr 11 '26

Exactly, it would be a huge waste of money if they just OiC’ed it or something along the lines. I can only imagine what some people and companies have made/thought of but don’t wanna deal with the headaches of this government

4

u/HappyCan7250 Apr 11 '26

Maybe he can sell the plans to Crusader! Half kidding too. A company with the mills/CNC already up and running could produce it for not much investment I would think

34

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '26

This could be pure copium but this could signal a shift from up top.  The liberals aren't blind to the fact the confiscation isn't going well.  Up til now the only reason they had to keep it going were the seats in quebec, but with all floor crossers they may be moving to abandon the project altogether, Provost be damned.

Or it could be luck, but I damn I can hope.

17

u/IntrepidKitchen5322 Apr 11 '26

hopium and copium. Man, I really wish we can get some of our cool guns and mags back...

14

u/833psz Apr 11 '26

It’s not a shift from up top. The RCMP lab has nothing to do with the OICs or legislation. Its always been this way.

10

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Apr 11 '26

This is correct. As much as people here don't want to admit it, the RCMP has nothing to do with lawmaking or OIC bullshit. They are up to their own shenainagans.

7

u/HappyCan7250 Apr 11 '26

Well, RCMP has FRT banned guns randomly that had been on the market for months or years. Charles Daly N4S had an FRT and was available for a long time, then randomly got reassigned prohibited by the RCMP after already having an NR FRT. So the RCMP upper brass/lab does like to crap on us too from time to time.

3

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

That was the classic "unnamed variant" curse. Basically after every major OIC there will be a few firearms that retroactively getting added to the list via FRT as the legislators missed it. Nothing new. At least it is predictable that they only do this after every OIC.

Like I said, they are up to their own shenanigans lol

5

u/IcySkyDream Apr 11 '26

They were getting up to some excellent shenanigans when Provost started getting in the way.

2

u/WeightedDips95 Apr 11 '26

Not quite true. Brenda Lucki was more than happy to help the Liberals by shifting blame from the NS shooting onto legal gun owners.

1

u/Many-Presentation-56 Apr 11 '26

Yeah both the Gov and RCMP need to be removed from decision making process, hence why we need the Simplified Classification System. Where just objectively all semi-autos are legal, regardless of appearance.

11

u/IcySkyDream Apr 11 '26

I hope they toss her like yesterday's garbage now that she's had her time at the helm, fucking things up for everyone. The LPC can say they tried and move on to more important things like the threat down south.

5

u/China_bot42069 Apr 11 '26

i've been huffing that same copium

4

u/brineOClock Apr 11 '26

Can I take a hit of that copium?

Sidebar: I would pay good money to watch Gladu start rhyming off how much she could do with an industrial supply stores chemical section in response to the gun ban in a caucus meeting. That would be hilarious seeing Provost have to grapple with the fact that you can't bubble wrap the world.

2

u/-rifle-is-fine- Apr 11 '26

lol "provolone"

u/Flat-Dark-Earth Big Bore Specialist Apr 11 '26

It’s likely a one-off made in the guys garage. Don’t expect mass production.

I mean sure, but the RCMP has also randomly been banning a bunch of stuff for the past few years.

There’s been random things added to those “2,500 firearms” on a near continual basis ever since 2020. That’s not including the last major OIC that happened either.

25

u/slvrus Apr 11 '26

Was literally just about to post the same screenshot haha

20

u/Remarkable_Vanilla34 Apr 11 '26

Im ready to yet again get hurt.

4

u/Isimo6 Apr 11 '26

Right there with you, buddy. I’ve wanted these since high school playing BF2

17

u/AceArchangel Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

The fact that this is non restricted but the m1 Carbine is prohibited shows just how BS this whole thing is

12

u/HappyCan7250 Apr 11 '26

M1 Carbine getting banned was a real heartbreaker. Even the little Chiappa M1-22, yet funny enough you can go buy a 10/22 dressed up with an M1 style stock and that's all good. The fucking idiocy of this government is baffling.

2

u/TheSockington Apr 11 '26

I think what didn’t help the case is the M2 trigger drops in and you get a full auto M1 carbine.

28

u/Debilitationate Apr 11 '26

I'm guessing $5,000 msrp

51

u/Parratt Garand Guy Apr 11 '26

He has no plans to start manufacturing at any sort of scale until a change of goverment. according to his Instagram comment.

19

u/FireteamOrcale Apr 11 '26

Only good thing he said he’d license it which hopefully someone reaches out to him and does

13

u/conanap Apr 11 '26

If it’s crusader or raven I’ll cry. I hope it’s MRA

16

u/drain-angel BC Apr 11 '26

If Crusader/Spectre got their hands on it they will be the only people who will somehow make an SA80 shittier than the OG ones

4

u/TescoValueSoup Apr 11 '26

It's funny because it's true.

3

u/Flat-Dark-Earth Big Bore Specialist Apr 11 '26

The internals of this are already based on a 180, their “specialty”.

2

u/PM_me_ur_TT-33 Apr 11 '26

Have you already forgotten Sonoda_Kotori's Kodiak Defense KD-85 concept? The memes and dreams have never been closer.

2

u/Flashy_Inspector115 Apr 11 '26

The options include Kodiak defence, MRA, Sterling Arms, Lockhart Tactical, Crusader, and BCL.

I can only dream we see Colt Canada making these but they probably don't care about the civilian market.

ATRS would also be sweet but I haven't heard from them in years.

Kodiak would make it relatively cheap. Lockhart, MRA, Sterling Arms would make it work and be mid priced. Crusader and BCL would probably face some hiccups. Although I do like the BCL bolt guns

9

u/guestpassonly Apr 11 '26

6500$ i know what i have

4

u/AppearanceAfraid Apr 11 '26

9,000 take it or leave it

2

u/guestpassonly Apr 11 '26

oooh lowballer huh?

11 000$ for you!

10

u/SonOfJaak Apr 11 '26

I want a 308 version of this.

10

u/PEWPEVVPEVV Apr 11 '26

The bullpup renaissance has begun! A worthy replacement for the Type 97

1

u/UnderstandingSoft165 Apr 12 '26

More like last hurrah haha

9

u/Infinite_Price_3550 Apr 11 '26

Wait what?! How did this get an NR designation? The SA80 is based off the AR-18. Didn’t then sterling arms get FRT banned because it was “based on the AR-180?” RCMP must be smoking silly grass then normal

2

u/noobte Apr 12 '26

dont look a gift horse in the mouth

8

u/IPSC_Canuck Apr 11 '26

They’re still classifying firearms as per the firearms act.

It doesn’t mean that this won’t be prohibited by OIC immediately.

6

u/thxxx1337 Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

I'd buy that... I won't cause I'm a pov, but I would.

6

u/Lpokie Apr 11 '26

Doesn't matter. Will buy.

5

u/georgeofthejungle71 Apr 11 '26

Not for long I'm sure.

Semi. Mag fed. Scary. Buh bye

3

u/Flat-Dark-Earth Big Bore Specialist Apr 11 '26

You forgot lineage to military service.

6

u/EnglishmanInMH Apr 11 '26

As a Brit veteran, I am truly saddened to see Canadian cope gun culture sink to this new low. 😭

Just kidding! I loved the L85A2 onwards and never had a problem with it once H&K had worked their magic!

11

u/CurlyWurly61 Apr 11 '26

April fools was 9 days ago 🫩🥀

10

u/BrotherLefthand Apr 11 '26

I hope it's an unreliable as the original. I want that "real feel"

4

u/Daedalus-N7 Apr 11 '26

This has got to be some kind of sick joke from the RCMP firearms lab

5

u/marston82 Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

It is, they likely have some secret unwritten understanding that the firearm lab techs will classify guns objectively into the non restricted category it meets the technical requirements. Then their RCMP bosses will later secretly change the FRT to prohibited or their political masters will just OIC ban them later. Been that way for decades.

4

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Apr 12 '26

My CFSC instructor was a lab tech. He quit the job after the May 2020 OIC. I won't name him but if you are from a certain region you 100% know who he is. I asked him a similar question and yes, he basically confirmed what you said:

The actual techs have no agendas and are all knowledgeable gun enthusiasts. If anything they are trying to get fewer guns banned and argue their way out for something to be NR. They would classify guns objectively in accordance to existing regulations and case law. Then management (whether it's the higher ups in the RCMP or the liberals/public safety, he did not specify for obvious reasons) would ruin the day, either before or after the FRT gets published. Obviously we can only find out about the latter, so imagine how many former cases there are.

He quit after the 2020 OIC because the government refuses to consult the subject matter experts, i.e. the techs themselves.

2

u/noobte Apr 12 '26

really frustrating when they hire experienced technicians only to disregard their work in favor of pandering bullshit

2

u/-rifle-is-fine- Apr 11 '26

I honestly feel bad for the techs.

Whatever you do for work, imagine working hard at it and putting in the time to do it thoroughly and right while knowing the whole time that your superiors are going to crumple up your work. A very "what is the point of me?" job.

1

u/Daedalus-N7 Apr 11 '26

I was referring more to the fact to that the only non-restricted semi auto we now have is a copy of one of the worst service rifles ever made. And that the RCMP classified it as NR as a sick joke. Because nobody is actually going to want this thing

4

u/Penguinbotxv Apr 11 '26

Oh x95 and tar 7 how I miss you guys.

3

u/PM_me_ur_TT-33 Apr 11 '26

Not a bullpup, but The Lab hasn't issued an FRT for the civilian uwu Carmel yet.

5

u/Xaxxus Apr 11 '26

So even the RCMP knows how bad this gun is.

4

u/UnderstandingSoft165 Apr 12 '26

NR = still means Not Reliable right? Right?!

3

u/AndreiHoo Apr 11 '26

NR by reputation?

2

u/UnderstandingSoft165 Apr 12 '26

Yup, non-reliable

3

u/gihkal Apr 11 '26

Everything will be banned if you don't vote appropriately.

3

u/Tall_Insect9784 Apr 11 '26

No idea why you’d want this anyway, the A1 was an absolute abomination.

3

u/Frank23682 Apr 11 '26

I wonder how it compares in reliability to Canadian 180s

2

u/escv_69420 Apr 11 '26

Probably on par.

2

u/Current-Speed4096 Apr 11 '26

this is a perfect example of how retarded the gun law is.........

2

u/Danlabss Apr 11 '26

I love when laws breed innovation specifically to circumvent it. it means we get cool shit like this.

5

u/TitusImmortalis Apr 11 '26

For a minute until they ban it

2

u/Wokeforpepe Apr 11 '26

No way! Straight into my VEINS please!

2

u/CountryFine Apr 11 '26

gimme gimme

2

u/Altruistic_Split9447 Apr 11 '26

So can I buy this puppy or what?

2

u/RecipeAlternative854 Apr 14 '26

Wait till the firing pin decides it don't wanna work 😂

2

u/Tyrocious Apr 15 '26

It's going to fit right in with all the other garbage guns in this country!*

\No share on the guy running this project I just hate that gun with a passion.*

2

u/Ronin_Black_NJ Apr 11 '26

So bullpups are as restricted in Canada as generic ARs?

16

u/headbone Apr 11 '26

The Tavor and T97 were not restricted before the ban hammer.

1

u/No-Night-48 Apr 11 '26

I think someone forgot that April fools day has passed.

1

1

u/Dependent_Account603 Apr 11 '26

Wouldn't c21 capture this? And if c21 doesn't capture it because it's an pre c21 design, wouldn't it fall under variant?

2

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Apr 12 '26

No, you can see the date that it was submitted to the RCMP in 2024, and C21's cutoff date is late 2023. He can argue that the gun has long been designed before that - and judging by his social media, that was indeed the case.

And funnily enough, since the L85 wasn't scary and never had a civi version, the previous OICs from both the 1990s and 2020s failed to name it (or its predecessors).

1

u/PumpJack_McGee Apr 11 '26

I've actually always kinda wanted one for just how stupid it is.

1

If he plans to license it. The options include Kodiak defence, MRA, Sterling Arms, Lockhart Tactical, Crusader, and BCL.

1

u/kipongakunippon Apr 16 '26

so if its not restricted and you didnt report it or import it nobody would kno you had it lol

0

u/Emotional_Anywhere85 Apr 11 '26

When I first saw this post, it’s like what a humiliated coincidence making a bolt action rifle based on L85. Wait! It’s semiautomatic!
