News / Politics / Activism New 'Canadian Firearms Exchange' launches, promises to be marketplace for 'law-abiding' gun owners

https://www.westernstandard.news/canadian/new-canadian-firearms-exchange-launches-promises-to-be-marketplace-for-law-abiding-gun-owners/75538

CFE founder Jacob van der Merwe says the sites dedication to security and identity verification will provide a one-of-a-kind marketplace for Canadian firearm enthusiasts

A new marketplace purporting to be a haven for Canadian "law-abiding firearm owners" has launched and promises to be a market that will allow firearms enthusiasts to buy, sell, and trade firearms and firearm-related equipment.

In a statement provided to the Western Standard, Jacob van der Merwe, the founder of the Canadian Firearms Exchange (CFE), touted that the marketplace was "created for law-abiding firearm owners who are tired of being treated like the problem."

The statement continues, saying that the Exchange "gives responsible hunters, sport shooters, ranchers, collectors, and licensed owners a secure place to buy, sell, and trade firearms-related gear while reinforcing the rules lawful Canadians already follow every day."

On their website it explains that the CFE is not a retailer but a "private community of Canadians buying, selling, and trading the firearms, optics, ammunition, and hunting gear they actually use."

The website states that every member will be required to have their identity verified and be someone residing in Canada, and the site will be geolocked to only allow Canadian traffic.

"The platform includes identity verification, PAL/RPAL compliance reminders, listing review, secure account protections, and in-platform messaging — not because licensed owners are the problem, but because responsible Canadians continue to prove they hold themselves to a higher standard," the statement from CFE reads.

The launch comes as Canadians are finding it more and more difficult to find ways to buy, sell, and trade firearms while obeying the ever-changing laws.

In an interview with WS, van der Merwe stressed the importance that the CFE could have in the Canadian firearms community and noted the importance that the geo-block feature on the website will have to prevent scams and foreign actors.

"To ensure that everyone (buying and selling on the exchange) is Canadian, we use technology to geo-block the site, so if you're outside of Canada, you'll be able to see the page, but you won't be able to open an account."

Van der Merwe noted that the exchange also makes new members send an e-transfer of $0.01 to the CFE to verify that they have a Canadian bank account, and the bank account name matches the name provided on the account.

'We use the Interac e-transfer platform to verify that people have given us their actual name and that they have an active Canadian bank account. The Interac system only exists for Canadians who bank in Canada."

"So even if you've used a VPN and spoofed your way into the site, you won't get past the verification layer." van der Merwe said when asked about the security of the site.

He also added that the CFE does not take any commission or make any profit on transactions between members, van der Merwe added that if the site gets big enough, he may sell ad space on the site but said he won't "nickel and dime" members.

Van der Merwe stated that while he is aware that his site is not the first of its kind in Canada, he stresses his 30 years of experience in IT have allowed him to build a far more user-friendly interface as well as a far more secure site in terms of user safety when buying and selling.

When asked if he could sum up what the CFE will bring to Canadian firearms enthusiasts, van der Merwe said, "trust, compliance, security, and ease of use."

"I want to make it possible so when you join the site you are confident that you are dealing with verified people on the other side."

It is estimated that there are currently over 12.7 million civilian firearms in Canada, two million of which are registered and over 10 million that aren't.

Canada has a long and storied firearm history and culture, with Canada ranking as the country with the seventh highest firearm-per-capita rate in the world.

This thread will be used for any Frequently Asked Questions, including PAL/RPAL applications, CFSC/CFRSC requirements, storage/transport, open ended "what gun should I buy first", or other general new to firearms ownership questions. It recurs every 14 days.

We recommend you try the search bar before asking common questions as they are frequently already answered elsewhere.

Most answers to Storage, Display, and Transport questions can be found here Inheriting firearms or dealing with an Estate? Answers here. Do you need to renew your license or check on the status of your license application? Try here.

Do you have questions about the classifications of firearms? More details here.

Are you wondering if a firearm is legal or not? Details here.

Different types of firearms are explained in detail here.

Exporting firearms, ammunition, parts and accessories from the US: most items are controlled under ITAR and you cannot, as an individual, export these items from the USA. Canada does not care in most cases. If you attempt to bring any of these items across the border yourself and you are caught, you will face prison time in the US. If you wish to export items from the USA, use a broker such as IRUNGUNS, Aztech, or Prophet River.

If you took your CFSC and lost the paperwork, you can still apply for your PAL. Both your instructor and the CFP retain copies, you can request a copy by contacting either one. There is no expiration date on the paperwork, you do not have to retake the course. Updated list of scam websites is here.

If you have new scam sites to add, please message the mod team. Be careful: only use reputable sites to purchase things online. It is illegal to manufacture a non-restricted, restricted, or prohibited firearm.

Any posts or comments asking about the legality of making a firearm other than a reproduction antique will be removed. It was not always illegal, which is why you will find old posts regarding this topic. Rest assured, it is illegal now. Do not attempt.

These threads will be stickied for a week, renewing every Monday. Previous threads here.

Take a look, your question may have been answered! If you have any suggestions for this thread, please feel free to ask here, or send the Mods a message. Thank you!

After learning the true power of a 308win and witnessing the horror it brings when paired with a very lightweight tikka t3x, my wallet has cried out loud and brought this home to train and get acquainted with.

I have done quite some research, and as i wanted a 22lr i picked up the ruger 10/22 scope and rifle combo from basspro for only 460 plus tax.(Get it while the sale is on!! You also get a hard case).

With the ad break now over, ill continue.

I was planning on getting the derya tm22 flash/ derya tm22 feather (m16 look is crazy)/adler arms rf 224, all because i wanted an AR style plinker and maybe the occasional hare/ rabbits/ squirrels/grouse. Broke my heart to see that none are that good for hunts. So i wanted to settle for a cz457. But Alas thats a bolt action! So i went in and got the semi auto ruger 10/22 and realized that can be my hkg36c if i need it to be xD.

Now collecting info from you guys on what aftermarkets to install and what to get replaced on her.

I dont want a competition shooter neither do i have the capability to dump 1k+ on her.

Tldr: got a ruger 10/22 and need suggestions on aftermarkets and swaps

I have to stop wandering down the paint aisle.

Overall it’s a decent rifle. Lots of muzzle blast and decent accurate. Heavy overall but you’re rarely shooting it freestanding anyways.

Buy recommendations Scout rifle optics question

Found a Ruger Gunsite scout in .308 and am interested in throwing a holographic optic with a magnifier. I understand that the eye relief isn’t long enough for the traditional scout mount location. I’m not too interested in using stripper clips so I am okay with extending the mounting rail over the action. Just wondering if it has been done before or is worth doing? I know scout rifles can be a bit of a contentious issue but with the direction gun legislation is going I figure a bolt action short to midrange hunting rifle would be good. And I think holographic are cool but I don’t have much experience with them. Is it worth it or tacky?

I picked up 2 of these Mauser .22 (JW25) clones when they were selling them for $300 each tax in with 1000 round Aguila 22 ammo.

The rifles are both beautiful and shoot shockingly well.... I got 2 for my 2 kids and wish I had more kids to have bought more for lol.

Howdy Folks!

The Texan is back with yet ANOTHER gun appreciation post, where this time we got a gun that was once available in Canada before being prohibited.

It’s a pop culture icon for sure, and it’s easily the most recognizable thing in existence that anyone can feast their eyes on.

The one and only!

Magnum Research/IMI Desert Eagle

Enjoy!

News / Politics / Activism Do you think they will ever stop the freeze on handguns?

Not really too informed aside that the law was implemented back in 2022 when I couldn’t even get my license. (Parents wouldn’t let me lol) But all I know is that I’ve loved handguns since I was younger and always wanted to own one but year by year losing hope to have one added to my collection.

Misc Beretta comp pro 24.

Hey trying to get help in pricing to sell my Beretta 1301 comp pro 24. It's only been used twice. Few small scratches etc. I never use it and i wanna sell it. Being that they are no longer for sale I am looking for input in pricing. Before the unavailablilty they were selling for 2295.

Would 2000 be a fair price point for a used hard to get beretta. The gun is amazing I just never shoot anymore. if this question isn't allowed I'll take it down. I don't see any for sale in the used sites so hard to know where to place it. Local gun store offered me 1300 for it which is blasphemous lol.

Thanks in advance.

Feets / Collection / My build We have the MP9 at home

Post image
70 Upvotes

I finally got a 9mm slide and decided to do too much.

This is technically a Gen 2 Glock 24 (6" .40S&W Glock). I have adapted it slightly. It is now the MP9 at home. Hockey tape grip, 10/31 stick mag, MDX LF17 slide, Recover front rail adapter, airsoft foregrip, and a strike industries pistol compensator (red dot in the works).

This is very cursed, but I kinda wanna see if this actually feels alright.

Misc Gotenda Calgary

Just checked out GoTenda Calgary for the soft opening this morning. Holy shit, the warehouse and storefront are HUGE 😂 It feels way bigger than the Toronto location.
Not a ton of guns on the shelves yet, but I’m guessing they’re still getting everything stocked. The whole place is honestly pretty crazy to see in person.
Calgary finally got a big one 👀

Feets / Collection / My build AD500 223

Post image
63 Upvotes

Picked this up last week, just arrived the other day. Got it on sale for a good price new. Collapsing stock models were sold out, but I actually kind of dig the fixed stock on it. It can be slightly adjusted for LOP too with a spacer. Now my second 223 semi, and soon to be 3rd when the Mk15 shows up. I never got to experience the pre-trudeau times sadly, but man, semi auto 223s are a ton of fun!

Haven't shot it yet, but hoping to today. Action is a bit rough, but overall the rifle seems fairly well made, and the AR mag compatibility is a big bonus. It is currently the cheapest semi auto 223 on the market as I paid just under $1k all in.

The trigger is actually surprisingly not bad too, definitely much lighter than mil spec, and lighter than your typical Turkish shotgun. Mounted a spare Vortex Triumph I had lying around onto it. Like I said before, I actually kinda really like the look of the rifle. (Safety is on, mag is empty, just put the mag in for the photo).

My dog substituted her foot into the photo for me. Wasn't even intentional, she just hopped up on the bed while I was trying to take the photo.

And by the way, Mk15 should be arriving any day, the shop im dealing with just told me August 15th they're expecting them, which would be today.

I figure even with the Mk15 Ill hang onto this guy if it runs reliably.

Finally got my PAL last week and bought this beauty. Didn’t take long to build it out thanks to all of the posts I’ve seen here recently. Got out on the range for the first time today and in my excitement forgot to bring targets lol. Regardless I had a good time and didn’t have a single hang shot or misfire. Can provide build details for anyone interested.
