Buy recommendations Scout rifle optics question
Found a Ruger Gunsite scout in .308 and am interested in throwing a holographic optic with a magnifier. I understand that the eye relief isn’t long enough for the traditional scout mount location. I’m not too interested in using stripper clips so I am okay with extending the mounting rail over the action. Just wondering if it has been done before or is worth doing? I know scout rifles can be a bit of a contentious issue but with the direction gun legislation is going I figure a bolt action short to midrange hunting rifle would be good. And I think holographic are cool but I don’t have much experience with them. Is it worth it or tacky?

XS Sights makes a rail for the Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle. Its a full length rail that still incorporates a rear sight but allows the mounting of more traditional scopes 👍

I wasn't able to get a magnifier to work on my GSR with the XS sight rail, the eye relief is simply too short. Granted, I was just using a cheap Chinese magnifier to test the concept, but the eye relief seemed in line with the advertised eye relief of "real" magnifiers from Aimpoint and Eotech so I doubt it would make much difference.
I would stick with an LPVO or an MPVO and call it a day

My $0.02: I'd go LPVO or a good old 3x9. Magnifiers for hunting are not practical IMO

Here are my pennies: Henry Supreme with Romeo and Juliet 4 is perfect for coyotes, and can be used for other situations too.
That being said, RAR in x39 with a vortex lpvo works good for hunting too, just not as handy for those other situations.

Get the XS sight systems rail, and to be honest with the way the world has moved an LPVO is more suitable to a scout application than the Scout scope of yesteryear. They’re a great hunting rifle
Be prepared to get downvoted by the inside kids as they hate anything that isn’t a 26” barreled tikka.
