Feets / Collection / My build AD500 223
Picked this up last week, just arrived the other day. Got it on sale for a good price new. Collapsing stock models were sold out, but I actually kind of dig the fixed stock on it. It can be slightly adjusted for LOP too with a spacer. Now my second 223 semi, and soon to be 3rd when the Mk15 shows up. I never got to experience the pre-trudeau times sadly, but man, semi auto 223s are a ton of fun!
Haven't shot it yet, but hoping to today. Action is a bit rough, but overall the rifle seems fairly well made, and the AR mag compatibility is a big bonus. It is currently the cheapest semi auto 223 on the market as I paid just under $1k all in.
The trigger is actually surprisingly not bad too, definitely much lighter than mil spec, and lighter than your typical Turkish shotgun. Mounted a spare Vortex Triumph I had lying around onto it. Like I said before, I actually kinda really like the look of the rifle. (Safety is on, mag is empty, just put the mag in for the photo).
My dog substituted her foot into the photo for me. Wasn't even intentional, she just hopped up on the bed while I was trying to take the photo.
And by the way, Mk15 should be arriving any day, the shop im dealing with just told me August 15th they're expecting them, which would be today.
I figure even with the Mk15 Ill hang onto this guy if it runs reliably.

Its funny, from the quick glance I've done at the rifle, I dont think the angled buffer tube actually contains anything on the 223 models (maybe it does on the 308?). In theory, if people wanted, the buffer tube could, I think, be adapted to a straight one like some Alcors have been? Haven't had it apart yet though so i could be wrong, but when I opened up the hollow fixed stock on mine it looked empty

It's not a buffer tube, it's like a Benelli M4 stock. I've tried em all except the Alcor.

Like a Benelli m4 stock but hollow instead of housing the spring right? I believe on the 223 models, it looks very similar to some Turkish shotguns I've owned, with the action spring under the barrel. Curious to take it apart more.
I was pleasantly surprised by the trigger though, surprisingly light. Have you had any issues with light strikes?

There's no spring or anything in the stock. It's just a rod with notches, and the plastic part is retractable (telescopic). It's different than the 308 design.
. I've only shot 80 rounds (so far) of 62gr 5.56 with zero issue, every primer was identical, nice strikes. My trigger broke consistently at 6.5lbs, nothing to write home about.

Interesting, mine is significantly lighter than 6.5lb, while I haven't measured it formally, it is much lighter than any mil spec I've used (6-7lb). Mine feels as though it is around 4lb. Could just be manufacturing inconsistencies between models, as Turks are known for inconsistent machining

I also think the fixed stock version looks a lot better than the bastard shotgun adjustable one lol

I have the ad500. Should I go scope or red dot? What would people recommend as a good budget scope? I'm considering the vortex crossfire 2 red dot

I personally like zoom on all my rifles. Maybe try an LPVO, they're usually 1-4, 1-6 or 1-8x zoom and are pretty good at short and medium range. My Savage 110 in 223 has a Riton 4-16x44, but my semi auto 223s currently use 3-9x40s.
I dont expect as much precision from my semi autos, but I dont love red dots because I can't see my impacts past about 50m or so. I do use a Vortex red dot on my 9mm Henry Homesteader though, but any rifle caliber I use magnified optics. lpvo or scout scopes are a good middle ground between the two

Honestly looks better to me with that stock, be curious to see how it holds up and how it compares to the mk15

I've got a Mk15 coming, last contact i had with the shop said it should be in any day.
I've also got a crusader backland comp, it'll be interesting to compare all 3. Watch the cheap Turkish one be the most reliable of them all. I do love the look and feel of the Crusader honestly, although it does have its small issues, mostly mag related.
I did see a great review on the 223 AD500 the other day on here, guy said it was surprisingly accurate and very reliable. Hoping to try it out tomorrow.

I'm honestly expecting the Turkish ones to be the most reliable. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I got a feeling. Especially like the Alcor that's existed in Australia for years.
You'll have a great little selection there to compare. A ranch rifle, the AR like crusader and the wire stok mk15

My barrel keep loosing @@“ should I put a red loctite on the barrel nut ?

Id try blue first maybe, if you ever have issues later red can be a pain as it requires heat. I prefer to use blue. Other option is maybe try swapped it for a nylock nut that can easily be removed later if needed? Id try those first. I view red loctite as a last resort

Just got one of these two days ago and bought a red dot for it, hate how it looks on it. I think scope is the way to go?

I agree, like I said to another guy on here, I scope any rifle caliber gun, the only ones ill use dots on are pistol calipers (357, 44, 9mm). My Homesteader has a red dot, but my SKS, Backland Comp, and AD500 all use scopes.
LPVOs or scout scopes are a good middle ground, although I wouldn't necessarily trust this handguard to keep a scout scope zeroed far up the rail. a 1-6 or 1-8 LPVO would work well though on these.
The scope on my AD500 is just a 3-9x40 Vortex, but it works well for it, eye relief is perfect with the way its setup. The Vortex Triumphs are really cheap and good value for rifles like this where absolute precision isn't needed
