Application / Regulation advice SFC/FTC saying you need a full season of competition before exemption?

Hey folks, based on a lot of the exemption threads I signed up for SFC and was looking to compete in an event or two so I could get an exemption and practice pistol shooting.

My experience seems to be pretty different from what others are reporting that you go to one event and it's granted. I was told the following:

"If you were participating in a weekly league you would need to complete a season with the league."

This is really challenging given the closest range that has events is 2 hours away, and they only hold them monthly.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks

Ar-7 in Canada

Is the .22 AR-7 affected by the upcoming new gun laws? Is there a “ grand father” clause or am I screwed. It took me forever to acquire one.

Application / Regulation advice Reloading / Projectiles

Where in Canada is the best place to get projectiles for reloading ?

Specifically 147 9mm, in bulk - need a few thousand

After that I’d be looking for heavier .223 (65gr and up)

Then soft or hollow point 308 for the bolt action 308, so likely between 150 and 175 grain

Thank you!

Application / Regulation advice Backland Hunter FRT

Can anyone confirm with knowledge if a crusader arms backland hunter has been submitted for a FRT? Maybe perhaps a resticted model, or I remember with the crypto that marster or some other company had submitted one.

Just curious, please no comments about don’t need frt blah blah. I won’t to know if anyone knows of one being submitted or not.

Application / Regulation advice Will moving provinces nullify my CFSC + CRFSC ?

Hey guys, I see the target pistol people are doing, and I wanna move from Manitoba to B.C, not just for that, but also because I wanna go work in the northern mines there.

I currently have my PAL, and a CRFSC booked for this weekend, here in MB.

But I saw some comment from a guy in this sub who moved from MB to BC, and he said that either the BC target shooting association (the guys who give the exemption letter) or either the CFO, did not recognize his Manitoba CFSC + CRFSC results.

Is this true? Will I have to retake it there? The place I will be moving to in September is a small plane ride away from any city so I won't have many places to take it.

Application / Regulation advice How to buy a rifle/shotgun if you have your PAL

So I haven't bought a gun in decades, the last time I did as I recall, they took down my info and pal info and that was it. My question is, is it that simple still? I as because I've heard you have to apply for another "registration number" even at store before I walk in. Which doesn't make sense.

Which brings me to the second question, is buying and selling (giving) privately still the same? Meaning, if I want to give a couple of my shotguns away, I just need to take their pal number down and that's it?

I know I'm stuck with my prohibs but I don't know if things have changed with simple non-restricted and maybe restricted firearms.

Application / Regulation advice Has anyone from Manitoba got a Olympic exemption letter from a provincial organization?

Just wondering what organization, if at all would be the one issuing letters without just going straight to the shooting federation of Canada, and the process for provincial issuance.

What's the city and federal policy for owning an air gun in Canada and using it like a spring break barrel? Below 500 fps. And what should I do to avoid getting punished unknowingly?

Application / Regulation advice Opening a non profit range

I was talking to some pal instructors about the restricted firearms in Canada. They mentioned that opening a non profit range might be a way to aquire some handguns and other restricted firearms. Can anyone confirm this and if so how do I start the process.

Just to confirm, I do have my rpal if that matters in this scenario

Application / Regulation advice Soo... does that mean I can't register early?

I decided to registered my GSG-16 as it is stock and I didn't pay that much for it. Technically if I got the $600 that they listed I would have broke even with the accessories I bought. I went through the process, verified my account and got the above message. What a joke. I could call or do it by paper. Like let's go back to horse and buggy while we are still at it.

Application / Regulation advice 1 year after PAL application- Approved!

Hey all,

I've seen a tonne of posts with experiences similar to mine, a wildly long wait after applying for your PAL.

My fiancee read that some were having success with reaching out to their local MP, she did on my behalf and couple weeks ago. I filled out the requisite forms they sent back to contact the CFO on my behalf, and BAM within a week my PAL was approved.

My situation is different than most, I had a 10 year ban on firearms after making a mistake early in my adult life. I've since been pardoned and that 10 year period lapsed.

There is hope out there to become a lawful gun owner, contact your local MP! Surprised they could move the needle so fast.

Good luck all

Application / Regulation advice Question about getting a PAL

I’ve went to a sports center the other day, and asked the cashier about firearms. He told me that someone needed to be 18 but I could get one, I just needed to follow the pamphlet they gave me. I am still a minor. One of their things in the pamphlet was that I needed to do a safety test? Which I did pay for but I didn’t not compete yet as it takes 5 hours. If I do the 5 hours + the other step and succeed then I can legally get a firearm?

I am confused as the CP site says no air shipment, but I called their Customer service and was told I could ship a firearm to NU from ON if I used regular parcel post.

Application / Regulation advice Reliable long-term firearm storage in GTA (Mississauga/Oshawa)

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on firearm storage options in the GTA.

I’m currently based between Mississauga and Oshawa (student, so I move around depending on the semester), and I need a safe and reliable place to store my firearms.

The issue is:

I can’t store them at home since I rent with a couple of people I’m not well acquainted with

I’ll be travelling out of the country soon, so I won’t be around to monitor things

The place I was previously storing them has recently shut down

Because of my upcoming travel, I’m a bit short on time to explore options in person, so I was hoping to get some recommendations here.

Ideally, I’m looking for:

Safe and fully legal storage options

Something reliable and long-term

Within a reasonable distance of Mississauga or Oshawa

If anyone has experience with storage facilities, gun clubs, or any other solutions in the GTA, I’d really appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Application / Regulation advice PAL as a citizen expat

I'm in the process of applying for my PAL, I did my CFSC in 2022 and I'm currently not living in canada anymore.

I still have a Canadian passport, BC drivers license, BC services card, and a mailing address (my family home)

The online application requires a letter of good conduct for non resident, but the country I'm living in now doesn't issue these unless it's for immigration or visa related use.

What are my options? I come back to Canada usually at least once a year but I likely won't come back permanently for a few years

Thanks guys

Application / Regulation advice List of exportable prohib AR-15s (irunguns link not working for ATF)

Hi all, can’t seem to find a list of what can be exported to the US. The link on IRG’s website for ‘sporting’ classification isn’t working (404 error).

Basically I have a Colt/Diemaco AR-15 SBR and DD M4v7pro that I would like to go through irunguns for to export to myself or a family member in WA state (I’m a dual citizen and have a valid US address). Wanted to make sure the subject prohib firearms meet the criteria and this way I can register and start the exportation process ASAP.

Any additional tips anyone has who may have gone through this process recently, and maybe by other dual citizens specifically? Interested in cost and timeline info and really just looking for peace of mind knowing that I’ll be able to get all this done before the government criminalizes me and I lose my job and home.

Thanks for all your help and expertise.

Application / Regulation advice Legality of folding stock adapter?

hello, I was recently looking at a folding buffer tube made from the states, and I am wondering about the legality of putting it on an MRA Renegade. If the rifle cannot be fired but can be stored at under 26 inches, would it still be legal? IMO id think if it wasn’t legal, things like the 10/22 takedown would be at risk
