Application / Regulation advice Reliable long-term firearm storage in GTA (Mississauga/Oshawa)

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on firearm storage options in the GTA.

I’m currently based between Mississauga and Oshawa (student, so I move around depending on the semester), and I need a safe and reliable place to store my firearms.

The issue is:

I can’t store them at home since I rent with a couple of people I’m not well acquainted with

I’ll be travelling out of the country soon, so I won’t be around to monitor things

The place I was previously storing them has recently shut down

Because of my upcoming travel, I’m a bit short on time to explore options in person, so I was hoping to get some recommendations here.

Ideally, I’m looking for:

Safe and fully legal storage options

Something reliable and long-term

Within a reasonable distance of Mississauga or Oshawa

If anyone has experience with storage facilities, gun clubs, or any other solutions in the GTA, I’d really appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Try making friends with someone you trust, maybe you could find someone local through your range and see if they are willing to store them for you for a while?  No friends with a PAL who could store them for you?

I believe you can also store them in storage locker facilities as long as you store them appropriately, maybe good hard cases with desiccant packs, and well oiled, with a good lock on them? Although I suggest confirming with the CFO if that is allowed. You could rent a small locker for a month or two for fairly cheap.

Maybe reach out to the CFO office and ask them what they would suggest for your situation and if a storage locker would be okay or if they know of anywhere you could store them

I have some experience with your second suggestion. Provided they are all non-restricted firearms a typical self-storage facility is fine legally. The usual storage regulations apply. The only potential issue is whether or not the facility has anything in their terms that says you can’t store firearms. Some do and some don’t.

Hello! Thanks for the suggestion. I don't have friends in Canada, and the ones I have are either not into guns (no PAL) or not trustworthy enough (I don't trust anyone with such matters because of the legal scene here)

I tried asking around for storage, but it seems more expensive than the $25 per firearm that I had and that too with more hassle.

I also called the CFO, and they were pretty clueless about the storage recommendations and locations. SO, not sure what I should do here.

If you can’t find any close I know range 519 in Cambridge offers this service.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried calling them, but no one answered. I will try again and see what happens.

Try them during the week best bet. Weekends can get busy with guest packages on the rental side.

Gagnon sports in Oshawa has a rental service, something like 4 guns is allowed. I’d call and get a quote

Hello! Thanks for the suggestion. I called, and they require an $800ish membership to be able to access that service and storage charges are extra. Are there any other places that offer storage without such expensive memberships?

The place I used to store had the option to store for $25 a month per firearm.
