How to buy a rifle/shotgun if you have your PAL

So I haven't bought a gun in decades, the last time I did as I recall, they took down my info and pal info and that was it. My question is, is it that simple still? I as because I've heard you have to apply for another "registration number" even at store before I walk in. Which doesn't make sense.

Which brings me to the second question, is buying and selling (giving) privately still the same? Meaning, if I want to give a couple of my shotguns away, I just need to take their pal number down and that's it?

I know I'm stuck with my prohibs but I don't know if things have changed with simple non-restricted and maybe restricted firearms.

Buying guns is as simple as ever for the buyer.

Selling or giving away guns isn't complicated. But it is a bit different. You need to login to the CFP portal and verify the buyers pal. It will spit out a reference number and that's good for 90 days. It's not difficult.

If you are buying at a store, the store will get the reference number as you stand there to complete the transaction. Be absolutely sure that you know the correct email that you have associated with your license. If you are selling or giving away a gun, you will need to go on the RCMP websitete, have all your PAL Information as well as that of the person you are transferring it to. Follow the steps and the system will generate a reference number.

You need a reference number to transfer any firearm. Non restricted or restricted.

Might need to call cfo to update your email to thier files. Not sure how this works now.. I cant remember how that first purchase went after that new rule was put in place. I know i didn't call...but it might cause a hick up. Or they may just ask for your email and thats it.
