This is how we get all guns banned in Canada.

u/AdhesiveCam 6d ago
This kind of behavior is going to lose us all of our guns before too long.

u/yuikkiuy bc 6d ago
how many of these people even have a valid license? how many are citizens? can non citizens hold a PAL?
57
u/Whispersfine 6d ago
Non citizens can
119
u/AceArchangel 6d ago
That seems absolutely wack to me
14
u/Eglitarian 5d ago
Part of their background check involves the RCMP checking in with their home country. They have a bit more of an uphill battle getting their license depending on where they’re from to be honest. I’ve heard Chinese citizens have a particularly hard time.
4
u/Jens_Fischer 5d ago edited 3d ago
Oh... that's strange actually...... I mean getting international proof of good conduct was finicky with notaries and stuff but it's wasn't particularly hard, per se. I received mine about 1 month after application. Probably they checked my background and it just says "sweet summer child" or something... I really don't know. Like, I heard about even Canadian citizens having their application submitted multiple-years-and-counting ago and I'm honestly really surprised that I got mine that quick.
P.S. And in case it wasn't clear, I'm Chinese, which made it all the weirder too.
41
u/Spydude84 6d ago
The problem isn't licensing non-citizens, the vast majority just partake in shooting sports like the rest of us. The ones causing trouble don't "need" a license anyways.
16
u/demetri_k 6d ago
They have to go through the safety program. We let them have drivers licenses too and a car can cause a lot of damage.
-23
u/FoundationalSquats 6d ago
A car is needed for daily life and for employment though, guns not so much
20
11
u/demetri_k 6d ago
People with a work permit can do lots here and they pay taxes. Yes guns and cars aren’t the same. Both require a lot of responsibility.

u/RadiantCoast6147 6d ago
The transit system exists for a reason. Having a vehicle isn’t a right it is a privilege.
1
u/fnsimpso 6d ago
Depends where, public transit exists. Some people should not have a license to drive.
There has been construction near where I live, and I've seen 4 accidents there and over a dozen near misses because people think road rules are just recommendations.
3
u/Critical_Rule6663 6d ago
Agreed, sorta.
On one hand, I absolutely agree that PAL should be a privilege of citizenship. On the other hand, how do you allow visitors to Canada who come to hunt to use their firearms? How do we restrict gun ownership to citizens only without damaging the guiding/hunting business?
16
u/Spaceman9000-1 6d ago
Create a visitor hunting/firearms license course, big cash grab for the government, closes the non-citizen PAL loopholes.
6
u/waitwhatnothing 5d ago
That already exists and requires no course. Visitors can enter Canada with non-restricted firearms for hunting or sporting just by filling out a form (RCMP 5589). Once the form is signed off by the CBSA the form serves as a temporary license and permits them to buy ammunition while in Canada.
The form is specifically only for non-residents, anyone who is a resident of Canada needs a PAL.
Sometimes non-residents who visit frequently get a PAL in order to cut down on paperwork. For example some Americans living in border regions who hunt frequently in Canada will get their PALs.
-30
u/Rogan403 6d ago
Why? We license non-citizens to drive so why is it wack to let non-citizens get a firearm license?
35
u/Receedus 6d ago
Why should we issue firearms licenses to foreign nationals?
12
u/Cre_AK47 Name Prohibited by OIC 6d ago
The biggest reason we do it is for Americans who like to hunt in Canada
13
u/Dantheislander 6d ago
You can get a short term import permit no pal needed. But commenter above is off their rocker we don’t issue guns we issue licences to those who meet all criteria and pass testing.
3
u/goodfleance 6d ago
If they meet the same requirements we do and want to come here to hunt or compete, what's the problem?
0
u/Receedus 5d ago
Fair point. I would posit that we should only let countries that have proper crimimal record checks participate.
1
u/Specialist_Chard5231 4d ago
If we can't trust them with a firearm why are we allowing them in at all?
2
9
u/DimGrows 6d ago
In this particular case, and many like it on social media in recent years, the non-citizens are not following the firearm laws. Add to that, that our courts will give leniency to them because of their immigration status, they should at the very least have to wait until they are citizens IMO. If we can’t enforce the laws because of their immigration status, I think we should remove the privilege.
-6
u/Rogan403 6d ago
Non-citizens don't follow traffic laws all the time too. You don't punish an entire group for the actions of one.
Everyone is equal under the law so the solution isn't restricting firearms licenses from non-citizens but instead just punishing those who break the laws/regulations regarding firearm usage and ownership with the same level of strictness that citizens do.
-5
u/DimGrows 6d ago
Agreed. How do you make the courts actually follow-through on that though? It’s the right answer but in reality the lawyers will literally argue that if they get punished it will hurt their immigration status, and this has proven to be a successful argument for leniency in court.
1
u/Rogan403 6d ago
I don't have an answer. It's hard enough to get the goverment to do something it wants to do nevermind something it has no care to do so I have no idea how to get them to start enforcing laws properly, regardless of immigration status, if that's even possible at all.
But I know 2 wrongs don't make a right.
Plus if the goverment is so reluctant to properly enforce firearm laws on immigrants because it might hurt their status and appear discrimatory then they're DEFINITELY not gonna make a rule restricting firearm licenses to citizens.
5
u/nulstate77 6d ago
This needs to change. Unless you have a green card in the US for example, you are not allowed to have firearms. There are exceptions for hunters, but that’s about it.
8
u/Pyro-pinky-the-third 6d ago
wrong, i have my carry permit for the US, i have several handguns in the US you dont need to be a citizen or a green card holder.
0
u/Cre_AK47 Name Prohibited by OIC 6d ago
How do you pass NICS without any type of green card/citizenship, unless you're going through private sales?
4
u/Whispersfine 5d ago
FBI runs the background check. It’s simple
0
u/Cre_AK47 Name Prohibited by OIC 5d ago
But it's federal law, you need to be a lawful resident of the United States/and of the state you're in to buy/take possession of bought firearms through an FFL. ATF form 4473 literally asks if you're a permanent resident or citizen. If you're visiting the US as a Canadian or living as a "snowbird", NICS would fail your background check given your status.
2
2
2
u/Specialist_Chard5231 4d ago
It does not ask if you are a permanent resident. It asks if you are a state resident.
2
u/rangedehinc 5d ago
Depends on the state and country. I tried to find it for local to me WA counties and it was too much of a patch work of rules... i stopped bothering. Wanted to get something for predator control while planning WaBDR
2
u/Specialist_Chard5231 4d ago
Go read the questions on a 4473. You just need to qualify as a state resident ( not green card holder and not a visa holder, a state resident, most states you can do that simply by staying for x months)

You people are forgetting one thing. There are temporary residents like Visitors. There are longer term temporary residents like students and workers. There are permanent residents too.
These guys might be permanent residents. And permanent residents can do all the things excluding voting and running for office.
Very Likely these are not workers or students or visitors but PRs.

Yes, Maxime Bernier complaining about it is absolutely a problem.
What's the crime here? People possessing guns? Yeah, real spooky.
These people are clearly closer culturally to me than anyone out East. Not sure why I should be mad at them.

If you see this as the behavior of a responsible gun owner - then you are the just as much part of the problem as these degens

I once posted a CTV article on here about 2 guys with the last name Singh that smuggled a bunch of handguns across the border. The basement dwelling mod removed it because it offend them. I'm amazed this has been up for almost 20 minutes. The mods mom must've tucked them into bed early tonight

I had a look but I assume it was the post you made in October of 2025, that said I can't confirm as you deleted the post. Says it was removed under Rule 4 - Not Relevant. We're not a crime sub so not all "2 Men Caught Smuggling Guns" will get approved.
As long as people are civil and don't throw the usual slurs, then it will stay up and open to commenting.

Violated laws / regulations.
- Unsafe handling of firearm
- Pointing firearm at a person (11 seconds).
- Handling firearm while on/in a Boat / Vehicle (BC specific).
8
u/FunkyFrunkle 5d ago edited 5d ago
Charges one and two will have any and all guns you own confiscated (with no compensation) and your license revoked. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a 5-10 year possession ban, otherwise it’s a lifetime ban.
12
u/Puzzleheaded-Tie35 6d ago
My hot take: be careful who you take out shooting.
A lot of assumptions are flying around here, but the thing that stands out to me is the camera guy zoomed in on the license plate and posted this to social media.
Is posing on a vehicle with guns stupid and dangerous? If they're loaded, absolutely. If they're not... well people are going to have opinions about that until the cows come home. But it sure as shit looks bad when it gets slapped on instagram, and whoever is recording probably knew that.

I did my CFSC a year ago at a Best Western conference room in Scarborough and had to wait two hours for those students to pass their written test before I could do my handling one. None of them should have been passed.
32
u/GruntS80 6d ago
100% I don't think we fail enough individuals. Don't get me wrong I want people in the community but not if they give a bad name and should be held back to try again or take it more seriously
12
u/_Pray_To_RNGesus_ 6d ago
That's crazy. I finshed my written portion in like 10min, and they started the handling portion while the rest were finishing up. I was one of the first to hand mine in, and got to do the handling without much waiting. I was done with all the testing in less than 30min.

Gonna be honest, I'm actually a bit torn on this.
On the one hand, they're being irresponsible as fuck, making us law-abiding firearms owners look bad, and my gut reaction is to tell these jackasses to fuck right off.
On the other hand, while we do have some very good laws (licensing, safety training, safe storage come to mind,) so many of the firearms laws we comply with every day (such as suppressor bans, the whole idea of "restricted" firearms, prohibitions based on vibes etc) are absolutely idiotic, yet we comply with laws we know are objectively wrong either out of a sense of "I agreed to comply with the law so I must honour that commitment," or simply fear of legal repercussions. If nothing else, these guys have the balls to openly say "Fuck the laws, I'm going to do what I want," as absolutely idiotic as they are.
Perhaps their biggest crime is flouting regulations and general firearms rules that are safety-based, whereas if they possesed the brain power and awareness to act safely while instead openly violating only nonsensical laws, they may have been based.
Alas, they are not based, they are dangerous morons.

Why? We allow non-citizens to have hunting, fishing, & driving licenses plus any other licenses that may exist. How would it be possible to restrict non-citizens from getting a firearm license without simultaneously breaking some equality law?
11
u/rangedehinc 6d ago
Because it is impossible to conduct a proper background check on some "student" whos been here a year.
Also.... good thing you brought up driving licenses... how about commercial licenses?
How is that fucking working out for Canada right now?

I went to a pheasant hunting spot not far from my city. I parked as a group of south asian hunters came back to the parking lot with their dogs. They had nice guns, nothing illegal and were friendly.

I see folks are raising Citizens and non Citizens holding PAL/RPAL.
There are different kinds of non Citizens:
- Visitors (Temporary Residents)
- Workers/Students (Temporary Residents)
- Permanent Residents
Out of these very likely these are Permanent Residents. And PRs can do practically all things citizens can except running for office and voting, including serving in canadian forces, joining police and campaigning for a party.

u/NearDeath88 6d ago

u/Sad-Stop-2401 6d ago
If this is in BC then handling guns while in or on a vehicle is violation of provincial firearm regulations.
14
u/Cre_AK47 Name Prohibited by OIC 6d ago
If those guns are loaded, then it is a criminal offence to transport a loaded firearm, unless they can somehow argue that they're actually "in use" and not "transporting".
Also, although not criminal, I assume the driver allowing people to hang off/ride in the back of the vehicle while in motion could also be considered "stunting" or "careless driving", so RCMP may be interested either way.
2
u/Rogan403 6d ago
Is there anything indicating they are loaded? Does stunting/careless driving apply to privately owned land? Not saying it is or not but it could be. Hell, is there anything even proving the guns are even real?

I had an Uber driver in Saskatoon show me multiple videos of him and his friends shooting wildly in an "Alberta national park". He had a khalistani flag on his dash board and an ak-47 decal covering his sunroof so I asked if he likes guns and he showed me 4 different videos of him and his friends firing into the air and also shooting with unpinned mags. Shockingly common in some circles.

I think most of us would think the exact same thing regardless of the race, but i have been seeing an awful lot of these videos from one group lately.
Some of the videos have no explicitly illegal behaviour, but all of them look like idiots when handling firearms like this. Its not a race thing, its a careless handling thing, and it does seem one particular group does currently have a propensity for posting videos of idiotic, dangerous behaviour with firearms lately. Id criticize it the exact same if it was a bunch of white guys posting these videos.

I see a lot of these videos, and while im some videos I dont see anything illegal, they generally are always acting like idiots. Like going out in the woods to make rap videos with their guns just looks fucking retarded and gives all gun owners a bad rep.
While some of the videos there's not necessarily blatantly illegal stuff, its always the same crap of them doing very idiotic or sketchy stuff.
Now, other stuff I would say here might get me banned.... again. So I will refrain on saying more. I just think if any of us posted videos like this online, we would be getting an immediate inspection and visit from the rcmp.
Its weird too how the rcmp and politicians dont seem worried about this, despite the Bishnoi gang literally sending a letter to the rcmp basically threatening to go to war with them. Not saying these guys are bishnoi, but with all these sorts of videos we have been seeing, it is highly plausible some are. Most responsible gun owners dont do this weird video garbage.
1
u/KorporalKarnage 5d ago
I'm sick of the old "If they were white no one would care.." comments I see with videos like this on X or here. While its true if you take away the illegal stuff any PAL owner would recognize the harmless fun aspect but that isn't the issue here.
The main problem is the real elephant in the room, there is a militant minority within the Sikh community that support the kalistani militants. This is a terrorist organization operating (?) in our country. Are these clowns militants? They sure shoot like them (badly). Who knows but that thought nugget is still there...
It also doesn't help that these guys make the ACTS and PROVE mean act like an idiot and prove your allegiance.
2
u/HappyCan7250 3d ago
It is interesting too that the Bishnoi gang sent a letter to the RCMP a while back basically threatening to go to war with them. Im not saying these guys are Bishnoi or Khalistani tied, but with all the videos like this we have seen lately, there is a chance that some do have those ties. No responsible, safe gun owners would behave like this.

I eluded to this here a couple of times. These idiots are everywhere in Canada. Yes, you aren't getting your assault rifles back, this is the real reason why the ban happened. The populace would have freaked out if they knew our own government was responsible for importing 1000's of terrorist cells, easier and more acceptable to peg the ban on a couple mass shootings. They didn't ban vans when the guy in 2018 ran over people killing 11 and injuring 16. The guy said he would do it again. They tried to say it wasn't a terrorist act, because he mostly just hates women. Killing one gender is not terrorist in nature according to our government, even though men were also killed.

A video of a few dumbasses breaking the law isn't a license to jump to racism/xenophobia. We still enforce rule 1.
