You don’t need to be a psychologist to understand her body language.
She spends so much time being told what she wants to hear that she becomes visibly enraged when someone dares ask a question that’s even remotely critical.
Putting her in charge of this file would probably kill it all together. It would only be a matter of time before she says something so fucked that it couldn’t be ignored and the government finds itself on yet another massive damage control mission.

She kinda already did by outright stating that it isn't actual criminals & terrorists that are the problem, it's the PAL/RPAL holders who went out of their way to get licensed that are the issue.
Nothing's come of it yet it seems, so I'm curiously sickened on what it will take for her to be effectively tarred & feathered.

Besides the crazy lady who is clearly traumatized out of her senses, these people know what they're doing is wrong. Gary is one of the worst political actors I've ever seen.

Friendly reminder that he is just a fall guy for Carney. If he worked for Pierre, he would be giving press conferences about ending the bans and explaining why ending them would be a good idea. (He literally told Carney behind closed doors that the ban should be ended, and Carney refused, if you remember the leaked audio.)
I'm not saying you need to like him, but if you're openly mad at him without mentioning that it's actually Carney and the LPC who are responsible, you're literally falling for the lightning rod trap Carney set up.

As a public servant myself, I can tell you that the days of fearless advice and loyal implementation died many many years ago, regardless of portfolio. Public servants get promoted by telling their bosses what the boss wants to hear. I’ve personally been told to “just go get new numbers then” when the impartially collected and analyzed data didn’t support the direction our leaders wanted to take 🤷♂️
The system is broken.

u/some_guy2024 Jun 13 '26
Sad as that is to hear it’s not unexpected. You answer to people who were put in their positions because of ideological conformity, not because they are skilled or useful individuals. For people line that ideology will always trump reality hence reality must me made to conform to ideology 🤷🏼♂️

Neoliberal ideology
Leftists fucking hate neoliberals as much as conservatives do, which is strange considering that save for a scant few issues like guns and immigration, neoliberals often play directly into conservatives’ hands as we see with American Democrats

u/outline8668 Jun 13 '26
It's not just lies but the liberal mind views the world as the way they think things are, or the way they think things ought to be. You can explain to them the actual legislation, statistics, etc and when it conflicts with their made-up narrative there is no introspection, it is simply you who are wrong. And intentionally wrong at that.

2

That’s one thing I never understood. Like guns are expensive and people buying them (and ammo) will rake in a bunch of money just off sales tax alone let alone other expenses like land for ranges
I figured a man with a literal doctorate in economics could put that 2 and 2 together

they do it with every policy. anytime the government "consults" on an issue its just to fabricate data to say why everyone loves it actually.

Regarding making it an offence for businesses to promote violence in firearms marketing and sales: “Has anyone ever done this? Why not do something that will make a difference, like no ads on the internet, or no online sales?” [Edited for legibility because apparently Poly is fucking illiterate]
I'm preaching to the choir, but this is the most bald-faced example yet that they eventually want everything banned.
The next time they try to lie to you that they aren't after "sporting" or "hunting" guns, remember that they secretly lobbied to ban retailers from advertising or selling hunting rifles on the internet, because that would be the policy that would "make the difference" that they want to see.

u/FunkyFrunkle Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26
I’m not even surprised. It’s been clear from the start that nobody who actually knew anything was ever consulted. Just “emotional experts”.
It was always clear, from the moment the government started providing numbers and rationale that this program was drafted completely in a sterilized bubble. It was clear that the only people who had a seat at the table were the people who supported the governments position.
It would infuriate me when they were referred to as “stakeholders” when they had nothing to lose if this program failed or succeeded. It was the people who stood to lose their property without having done anything to deserve it that were the *real* stakeholders, and we were not consulted. Not given the time of day. Just a faceless, grotesque mass of people that had to be regulated.
If I could put a somewhat positive spin on this, it is for this *very reason* that the program is failing. It is *because* it was drafted in a bubble that it’s crashing against reality in a spectacular way. It’s not difficult to tell that there was no input from the outside world, only a small number of hand selected people who supported this no matter what. Only activists and people stunned from trauma of horrific events that were allowed any input.
The result? A program that does not mesh with reality. A program that was imposed upon people and people pushed back. Now almost the entire country and a cavalcade of police forces are telling the government to pound sand, not to mention the whole thing has caught the attention of the Supreme Court.
That’s why Natalie was so angry. She spent much time being courted by the government, being told what she wanted to hear and that she was finally the one in the chamber with all of the relevant people behind closed doors getting to basically dictate what should be done according to her and she now stands a very real chance of losing it all.
Wouldn’t surprise me if she was (gently) told that this program is no longer a priority, and if there isn’t any measurable success within a certain amount of time, it was getting mothballed. Now it’s going to the SCC where it stands a roughly 50/50 chance of getting legally torched.
She’s not seeing her sensibilities and her beliefs being reflected on a macro scale and it’s eating her alive from the inside. She can’t stand not being allowed to control the conversation.
14
u/burntlandboi Jun 13 '26
It’s the idea that these people think THEY are the only ones either the morals and intellect to make decisions for the rest of us that really makes me upset. Especially when it’s quite obvious they have no fucking clue what they are talking about.
5
u/FunkyFrunkle Jun 13 '26
Which, ironically, is the reason why this program has completely shit the bed.

14
u/GinnAdvent Jun 13 '26
Hmm, yes people not wearing seat belt while driving and talking on their cellphone while driving probably cause more vehicles related deaths than firearm related death involving firearm owners. Yet they illegally modified gun magazine all the time according to the stakeholders. You know the biggest stakeholders in this whole talk is 2.3 mil plus PAL owners right? Why are we being treated like subset of population because we own firearms. Is the public safety gone downhill in the recent 6nd yrs with spike in gun crime involved with legal firearm owners?
Then what's the point of me having 50 Glock magazines and 30 Cross mags and LAR mags plus over 35 plus T81 mags? And the poor poor pinned P90 mags.....
Do what that idiotic reporter did and unpin mags live so can save some money?
I am following the rule to the tee so I honor my end of the bargains while they are out there discrediting lawful gun owners to move the goal post?
So if they don't trust us than I guess whatever restrictions doesn't apply either?
Good grief.
And if you do so incline, then I would like some MP to physically participate in door to door "gun buy back" with Natalie Provost leading it by example instead hiding it behind RCMP. After all, this is their grand idea, that the definition of public safety in Canada is ignore all the violent home invasion and extortion, and go after law abiding citizens.

u/Weak-Coffee-8538 Jun 13 '26
Funny I remember the first ban and they said, there's thousands of makes and models still available.
And all along they wanted those all banned too.
The magazine stuff is hilarious. I've never ran into anyone whose modified because they know it's illegal.
13
u/Accurate_Info7777 Jun 13 '26

Now I’m hoping my father lives long enough for some sort of grandfathering to come into existence so I can legally keep my maternal grandfathers Iver Johnson Model 55. He and I shared our birthday, and he died 2 weeks before I was born.
Of the handful of things he left behind for me, all but 2 things were guns.

Never say never man. Look at the lunatics setting firearms policy in the LPC. I could almost see Poly calling for hands to be amputated for public safety.
When they're done with guns they'll go after trucks and vans next. They'll never be satisfied. They're genuinely insane.
2
u/Expensive_Blood_2800 Jun 15 '26

3
u/throwie2k Jun 15 '26
Oh what if there's a massive civil non compliance like when they were thinking of banning the SKS? And I say it not as a possibility
3
u/Joels-workshop Jun 17 '26
It’s interesting, they actually achieved the opposite of their goal by lying.
I don’t know a single person that unpins their magazines to hold more rounds.
Compliance will eventually decrease when people perceive laws as irrational, inconsistent, unfair, or disconnected from reality. Research in criminology, public policy, and organizational behavior shows that people are more likely to comply voluntarily when they believe:
The rule has a legitimate purpose. The rule is applied fairly. The rule is based on evidence or common sense. The authority imposing the rule is trustworthy. The burden imposed is proportionate to the problem being addressed.
Anyone with common sense can see this government cares more about punishing law-abiding gun owners than it does criminals.

What makes me sick is when the Conservatives get back in power one day, it's not like they'll do anything to fix things. How do I know? What did Harper do?
35
u/outline8668 Jun 13 '26
He trashed the LGR, vastly simplified the ATT process, unbanned a couple of guns the RCMP went out of their way to ban. I'm not saying he was the second coming of gun Jesus but things did get better under Harper.
0
u/dsac Jun 14 '26
He didn't dump the LGR because it was bad, be dumped it because it cost more than $1 and, like every Conservative politician, the government paying for things is antithetical to their beliefs
-11
u/Key_Tree261 Jun 13 '26
He didn't "unban" my guns and that's what "I" voted for
8

So glad you're considering the whole of the community and not just yourself.
You keep on shinin' okay?
14
u/Jaded-Juggernaut-244 Jun 13 '26
I don't think that's true. I understand your frustration...I share it. Harper stopped the insanity of the LGR. Could the CPC have done more with their majority? Yes, they could have.
Will Pierre stop the attacks on gun owners? I am certain that as long as he has the power that will be true. I believe he will strike down all the OIC's and attempt to return us to at least pre-2020. Will he overturn the handgun ban? I dunno, it's possible but that would be a very hot potato.
It's not fair to say they will do nothing. Will we get a re-write of the Firearms Act? I hope so, but I doubt it. Will we get a common sense firearms classification system? Perhaps, but another long shot. Will we survive with some reprieves to the laws to fight another day? Yes, I think that for certain.
6
u/ThrowRA_That_Owl_25 Jun 13 '26
We need something more solid than that. Or else, they will just keep re-writing laws.
3
u/Jaded-Juggernaut-244 Jun 13 '26
What we need and what we can realistically expect are two different conversations.
14
u/boozefiend3000 Jun 13 '26
Harper helped a lot by getting rid of the registry. There was a lot of stuff planned if he won his second majority. They were even gonna run a pilot program for handgun hunting. That would’ve been huge stopping any bans on them
