Milsurps / Prohib Anybody looking for the motherload of brass?

Found this on the government auction website lol.

All the brass you could ever want. No idea if it’s reloadable or not, but I got a chuckle out of approximately 43k lbs of brass, what it would be like to shoot that much of it lol.

Fix my gun I recently go the Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol. Where can I find shim kits for it?

As the title states, I recently got that firearm. Been taking it out to the range and even doing a little skeet with it lol, but I'm pretty sure I need to drop the stock a bit. It sits a bit too high on my shoulder and for it to sit more naturally, I have to tip my head unnaturally to accommodate. L

But, the firearm didn't come with a shim kit, unlike another shotgun I own. I also can't find a shim kit for it, but the instruction manual has instructions for adding shims. What recourse do I have here? Should I take it to a gunsmith for fitting?

It's super fun to shoot but for me to have my head not tilted and stuff while looking down the sight, it basically just hammers my collarbone area lol.

Buy recommendations Henry Big Boy

Been looking to buy myself a lever action rifle finally. I see FOC has this henry big boy on sale for what seems like a decent price.

Anyone have experience shooting these? Or have any recommendations on what I should buy? Looking to spend no more than $1500.

Preferably id get something i can shoot with a .44 special or .38 special round but this price for the .45 colt seems like a good buy.

Thanks!

If anyone is looking for full time work right now and lives in Halton/Peel region in Ontario. The Georgetown Canadian Tire is hiring for a new pro-shop associate who has experience with firearms/hunting. They want people to apply in person for this position though. I took a photo of the wanted ad at the store when I was there recently.

Mods.....feel free to remove this post if you deem it not relevant. Thanks.

Feets / Collection / My build Can't decide. LPVO or Reddot and backup irons.

Post image

Stuck with this decision. Love iron sights, but also just bought a new 1-4 lpvo which of course needs to be further back so I can't keep the backup irons.

Other options to consider. A quick detach Cantilever might let me keep the irons, and just pop of the scope at the range when I want to shoot irons. Or I have a more notch and post sight I can pop on further down the rail and just remove the scope when I want to shoot irons.

Or just stop obsessing about irons and shoot my gun at 1x if I really want

Buy recommendations MRA Renegade barrel recommendations?

Wondering what options are out there on the Canadian market for a 16-18" barrel for an MRA Renegade that would be accurate with a wide variety of factory ammo (kinda similar to what the Ruger American rifles can achieve). I want to avoid getting something that's really picky on what ammo it likes.

Budget-friendly is ideal but willing to consider mid-tier options as well. If the stock barrel works fine then that works as well.

Buy recommendations First gun

Got my pal a few months ago and I’ve been scared to buy my first gun, then finally at a Canadian tire, a very nice dude spent some time and went over a bunch of them with me.

I want to get a Mossberg 590A1 Compact, out of all of them it felt natural and very nicely balanced.

I am planning a trip to the range (never owned a gun, shot one or been close to them other than gaming ).

Anyone have any inputs about it ? I am going to be 3-4 times a year at the range and then going hunting. I am not crazy into guns, but wanted something decent and based on the seller this is the best bang for my buck.

Thank you!

Just picked up a Benelli R1 in 308 as I was not happy with the accuracy with my Browning BAR MK3. Super happy with it. Comfortable accurate shooter. Getting about 1.25moa with Hornady American whitetail 150gr. I notice it does not like heavier bullets because of the slower 1:11 twist. So maybe I'll find bullets the gun likes even more with more testing. Trigger has mush on the first stage but a light clean break at the wall. Put about 60 rounds without any feeding issues yet.

Using an Arken EP 1-8X LVPO on it.

So I’m dumb, I never knew about this, I guess the best thing to do is to cross reference this with the crownland atlas and figure out which sites are no longer in use and situated on crownland 😃

Gun and gear reviews Experiencing all weather and conditions

Do you ever really put your gear through it's paces?Obviously its a great time going out on the range, ripping through mortgage payments worth of ammo in the sun and short sleeves.

Im talking about going out shooting when its so damn cold out the air stings the moment it hits skin and the idea of loading a magazine is the worst thing you could possibly imagine. Going out when its raining, windy, just overall miserable. Getting your gear dirty.

One of the most reliable pistols i own, north of 5000 rounds on it and i can't remember a time where i had a genuine failure that wasn't mag spring related or some kind of user error teaching new shooters. I had it out this winter, one of the coldest days all winter, way colder than ever shot in before, and it wouldn't fire 3 rounds without a stoppage. I've only ever used the same products to clean and oil my guns for years now and everything else ran as expected. Just racking the slide you could tell it felt way more stiff and sluggish than it should've. Once i got home, going to take it apart and see whats up, it ran just as smooth as butter.

So i guess don't always assume your most reliable gear is always going to be the most reliable in every condition.

I honestly can't wait to try and replicate that this winter to figure out why it suddenly became a liability in the cold. It felt like its oil was getting tacky in the cold, but none of my other guns were getting that, using the same exact bottle of oil in the same conditions.

I'm sure there's lots of stories like that out there of our gear surprising us in the worst ways lol

This thing is so small it’s hard to get the ergos right. I had the cantilever nuts on the other side but I couldn’t get the eye relief right without sending the mount past the end of the rail 😭 I’d put the cheek weld even lower for my big fat head if I could, too. It is just a toy to me though, and I do love it. 🤓

Gun and gear reviews Browning BAR mk3 vs Benelli R1

Thumbnail
gallery
42 Upvotes

So I've owned a couple Browning BAR Mk3s in 243 over the last couple years and just picked up a Benelli R1 in 308. These guns are similar in function and price so I thought I'd compare the two.

The browning BAR Mk3 is an ok rifle but I'm very disappointed in it's design and performance for a $2K gun. Dont get me wrong, it is comfortable to shoot, looks nice, comes in a good selection of calibers, and has a buttery smooth feeding system and comes with an adjustable gas block. But it is inaccurate, you can get anywhere from 1.5moa to a 4moa rifle. The barrel is bolted to the receiver, not threaded in so after 2-3 shots the gun heats up and the groupings go wild. The nut on the fore end that the sling attaches to has to be torqued 50-60inlbs or the groups open up. It's also made out of soft steel and prone to snapping. The barrel is not free floating so resting it anywhere except close to the magwell throws it off. Oh and you need allen keys, a socket wrench, and a punch set just to field strip it...

The benelli R1 is basically the browning MK3 but none of the flaws. It has a toolless takedown, faster twist rate, and a free floating barrel that is threaded in. For accuracy it's not exactly 1:1 since the benelli is a 308 but the benelli was way more accurate around 1.25-1.5moa and the groups stay consistent as you shoot. I notice the trigger has a slightly lighter break as well. The gun is also more modular, you can; use benelli M4 stocks with some slight modifications, change out the barrel and bolt for different calibers, and is tapped in 5 places on the receiver and 4 places on the barrel to add iron sights. I also like the ergonomics slightly more too. The grip isnt as fat and you can reach the mag release, bolt release, and safety with your index finger.

It just seems like a lot more thought went into the Benelli R1 in design and would definitely be my pick over browning.

Misc Barrel break-in?

Bought a SCSA Taipan .223. Just read the manual, and it says you need to do a multi-step cleaning, shoot, cleaning, shoot, clean, shoot, etc. until you’ve shot 50 rounds.

Is this really necessary? We don’t have a range near us. We are booked for June 7 at a range 2 hours away. I didn’t know about this breaking in process, and now I fear I’m going to be wasting my 1.5 hours at the range just doing this.

Can anyone please advise?
