Milsurps / Prohib Anybody looking for the motherload of brass?
Found this on the government auction website lol.
All the brass you could ever want. No idea if it’s reloadable or not, but I got a chuckle out of approximately 43k lbs of brass, what it would be like to shoot that much of it lol.

Yea they give you a timeline to prove destruction, basically that limits sale to commercial recyclers who can get it into a smelter within the timeline. It’s a real shame, just like how they crush all of the police vehicles that used to be auctioned. But we have infinite tax dollars to send into the big machine that shreds the CADPAT gear…

I remember a guy bidding on military brass years ago. He had to sign documents stating it would be destroyed and not reloaded. As with anything government related it has copious amounts of paperwork involved.

I too spend too much time following GC government surplus listings.
Great deals on there if you know what you're looking for.
Iv made hundreds of dollars in 10 dollar purchases

It’s truly a goldmine if you have connections and knowledge to sell/process highly obscure industrial materials and old machines

The scrap value of the brass is about $356,000; not sure how much it'll cost to move back to Canada however.

Dundurn is in Saskatchewan, just south of Saskatoon. We did an exercise there in 86 or 87 as opfor (reserves) holding an entrenched hill. Reg force used mechanized units and F-18's to "take" the hill. There is probably everything from 9mm to 105mm brass mixed together in that load as it has a massive live fire range.

We were supposed to do an EX there in the mid 90s, but after we started our course, they basically told us that the funding was gutted, and we couldn't fire more than 5 rounds each on the range when we went for our range days. It was brutal. Turned into a "quota course" and they did everything they could to prevent anyone from dropping. They even let injured people pass the course that likely should've been medically dropped.

Holy shit! They have a whole fully working marine simulation for sale. I wish I had crazy money, a truck and a spare room. I would be sailing the seas from the comfort of my home.

To all who are wondering if you could reload it, the 3rd pic mentions that the brass has undergone "thermal treatment" to remove all flammable or explosive residue. I get the feeling this lot of brass may have been a batch of bad ammo or manufacturing defects that was burned. I would not expect this brass to be good for anything but smelting.

Probably from years of cleaning up the range at the dundurn military base and now they need space in the warehouse it was stored in

Oh yeah, so on top of maybe being burned to get rid of any powder or primer residue, its possibly ancient range brass from a military base. I'll pass. 7.62x51 from an FN MAG is a bitch to process.

Im pretty sure its borderline at the break even point for weight with that much dirty brass getting a decent price. Someone mentioned its 88 pallets at 2 drums per pallet, I mathed it out to over 12,000lbs of weight just in pallets and drums as well at 50lbs per pallet and 45lbs per drum. So you can take that off the total, because its the government, they arent gonna weigh a pallet and 2 empty drums and tare the scale to that. They're just gonna go drop pallets on a scale and add it all up, factor in that shipping it to me in alberta, with it being two semi loads, even if I had the space, theres no money to be made on this. Just headache

You very well could be right, but even if a couple barrels were good, they wouldn’t notice, and you’d win.

Thats 95,142lbs.
They list it in kg. So 43,156kg. Insane amount of brass, i wonder if theres any room for profit on a scrap level
