My bank actually told me to only use Sezzle or ApplePay type services for firearms related online purchases after my credit card was compromised at from a 3 letter acronym online gun store.

Wait until you want to get into milsurps or antiques. Then you will truly hate the fudds/boomers.

I don't blame you! I purchased this in December, and still paying it off šŸ˜…

I couldn’t find one so I bought a BAR in 30-06, which is also a beautiful firearm - but there is just something about THIS gun as a scout platform…sexy as fuck.

4

u/raider_riley 6d ago

The BAR was a great choice, and absolutely a beautiful rifle! I'm hoping Ruger will start back up their original scout line, seeing how popular they were. I tried the American gen 2, and although really nice as well, I still preferred the feel of the original

Which BAR? Mk3? Mk4? Or one of the older ones?

1

u/isanthrope_may 4d ago

ā€˜92 mkII safari

u/BowFella 3d ago

Oh ok so one of the good ones. Ever since they started making their guns in portugal they've been overpriced garbage rods.

2

u/isanthrope_may 3d ago

Oh yeah, she’s a Belgian princess.

The M77 action is a nice take on the Mauser, it's a great choice for this type of rifle. Personally I like the dimensions but would probably forego the sights for a standard LPVO.

2

u/raider_riley 6d ago

An LPVO was my first choice too, as I'm more used to the eye relief of a standard scope, but didn't have the heart to take off the iron sight lol. I have a Vortex scout scope on there, but find it gets blurry around 4-6x

3

u/KalashnikovParty 6d ago

How’s the eye relief on that scope. It seems really far forward

2

u/raider_riley 6d ago

It's actually quite comfortable! I never used a scout scope until buying this rifle, but found it very natural to line up a good sight. I still prefer a standard scope for further shots, as these are fairly low magnification (2-7x), but does allow for quick snap shots and a wider peripheral view with both eyes open

That’s enough to fit a 12ā€ plate at 1000m no problemĀ

Finally, a gun that I can like just as much as my 7mm08 browning

3

u/raider_riley 6d ago

First off, I love the username 🤣 We would get along just fine. Taught me something new too, as I didn't know there was a difference in 7mm08 and 7mm Rem Mag! Had to look up the Browning, and it's beautiful. Made a great choice šŸ‘Œ

2

u/Kim_Bong_Un420 5d ago

Thank you man, i appreciate that

Edit: she’s a x bolt micro composite with a nightforce optic. Beautiful rifle and incredibly light weight with very little recoil.

Nice with the quick release scope so you can use the irons if need be. Another option is a red dot on med/high rings so you can see irons under neath.

So jealous... been eyeing one for the last 2 years. Cheaped out and got a savage xp sr

2

u/raider_riley 6d ago

I haven't seen the Savage XP SR until now, but they look really good! I imagine it's an accurate rifle, and any .308 is a great choice to me šŸ‘Œ

Discontinued i looked canada wide only place that had stock was the gun dealer

1

u/raider_riley 4d ago

Didn't see this until now! They do have a few on gunpost, and some are okay priced. I paid $2100 (after taxes) for mine l, amd see them range from 1800-2500 on there

2

u/superbeneficiary 6d ago

How do you like the quick release rings u/raider_riley?

1

u/raider_riley 6d ago

They work really well! I had taken off the scope while out shooting, recounted it, and was still able to hit my target at 50 yards, so that was good enough for me. They're built quite well and I believe don't require any lapping, as some other rings do. The levers are also adjustable and can have them off set in different positions (horizontal/vertical), making it easier to remove quickly.

1

u/raider_riley 6d ago

Thank you! The red dot would be a great idea, and would give me an excuse to get another lol

2

u/pooshlinger2 6d ago

Always thought these things were cool asf

2

u/Current-Speed4096 6d ago

that's either unholy amount of eye relief on the scope or you have a turtle neck lol

1

u/raider_riley 5d ago

Definitely lots of eye relief lol. Never used a scout scope until buying the rifle, but was surprisingly natural/comfortable to use. They were especially popular for top loading rifles with stripper clips (Ruger Scout does not), but still helps get quick/snap shots, with a wider peripheral view (both eyes open). I still prefer a standard scope for longer distances, though

2

u/snakeleather45 5d ago

Tis a fine rifle. But you need a Burris scout scope.

1

u/raider_riley 5d ago

Thank you! Burris was my first choice for scout scopes at the time, and regret not getting one. The Vortex is good for what it's worth, but I find it gets a bit blurry after 4-5x.

2

u/snakeleather45 5d ago

I find scout scopes to be like LPVOs , its either min or max magnification. There is really no need to use the middle settings.

1

u/zaphodbssecondhead 11h ago

Go for the new Hilux Gen 2 LER. Better bang for Buck than the BurrisĀ

2

u/pyates1 4d ago

How do you like the action, some rugers I have tried feel like the action is a bit "clunky"

1

u/raider_riley 4d ago

My only other bolt action is an old enfield, so I don't have much to compare it to, but do find it to be quite smooth!

2

u/pyates1 4d ago

The Enfield is a nice smooth action, Thanks

Ditch the bipod and practice using a loop sling of some kind. Real scout shit. I find it more versatile when walking through the bush as well

1

u/raider_riley 4d ago

I was just reading up on loop/ching slings, and that would be a good idea! I've been doing target shooting from a bench, but will take off the bipod when bringing it hunting to lighten the load

2

u/H0B013 3d ago

The magpul RLS sling is a good option if you want something simple and effective for cheap

1

u/raider_riley 3d ago

Thank you!

u/grandfundaytoday 3d ago

This is my primary deer gun. I like the forward scout scope but it makes it a bit front heavy. It's not a particularly accurate rifle but it's good enough for eastern Ontario woods. I bought a 3 rd mag for it to avoid catching the box mag on things.

1

u/raider_riley 3d ago

This is what I wanted to hear! I live in North-Eastern Ontario as well. What distance are you typically hunting at? I've only done some target shooting at 100 yards with it, and don't see myself hunting past that due to the thick brush everywhere. Definitely front heavy with the forward mounted scope, and the bipod doesn't help any either lol. Will have to get a 3rd mag too, if I can find one!

1

u/zaphodbssecondhead 11h ago

They take normal aics mags, palĀ

1

u/zaphodbssecondhead 11h ago

I think that’s you. I worked up a load that’s easy <.75 MOA at 100m on a 10 round group. Hell, even factory loaded 168gr SMKs ran sub moa at 100mĀ
