News / Politics / Activism TPS sets reporter straight
From CCFR IG page. Good to hear him say this out loud with what happened.

These are the people who should be in cabinet

u/Metalock 11d ago
It's actually crazy our firearm laws are made by people who have absolutely no background in policing/military/outdoors/etc.
You'd think the Minister of Public Safety would know the Firearms Act like the back of their hand instead of being passed a note because he doesn't what an RPAL is. It's like if the Minister of Transportation never had a driver's license.
And Nathalie.... uuggghhh....

A thing that REALLY bothers me about Prevost's position is that like, don't we need an actual secretary of nature?
I'm a big nature guy. If I didn't like guns and motorcycles so much, everyone would call me a hippy. I'm actually really mad that they put her in charge of conservation and climate change, pretty much my #3 and #2 issues respectively, and she ain't doing shit all about that and instead making fat bank off of being the leader of Poly.
Gun stuff aside, this is really wrong IMO.

u/FrozenSeas 11d ago edited 11d ago
Don't get mixed up, Provost is "secretary of state for nature", which isn't an actual cabinet position. The current Minister of the Environment is Julie Dabrusin, who took over for Steven Guilbeault last year.

u/Alive-Big-838 8d ago
In fairness if that was a real position she's doing a pretty horrible job of it. I mean part of our country is burning and producing a big black cloud of smoke.
2
u/escv_69420 8d ago
Exactly! I'd hate her way less if her bait and switch job appointment was like, Minister of francophone street signs or something.

It regularly feels like we live in a kakistocracy, where the worst of the worst are elected for their positions. Nathalie belongs nowhere near any gov't institution, Gary falls on his face repeatedly and at this point it's hard to watch. All the worst cabinet members from the previous gov't are still around; they've just been shuffled to different branches, but it's pretty well the same people. It's actually a joke, but the joke is on us.

u/Ok_Consideration476 11d ago
I know the feeling. Here in the USA, it is mostly the worst of the worst that are elected in our two main political parties. Not sure on statistics for Canada. However, in the USA, everyone really claims to care about politics but roughly 80% of registered voters donāt vote in primary elections (and that is best shot at voting all the scumbag politicians out).

u/misuseofyou 11d ago
One of Trudeau's ministers, Bill Blair, was the former chief of police in Toronto. He knew deal, but like every crooked Liberal, he still attacked legal gun ownership. C-71, then the banning of so-called assault style long guns, then the new backdoor registry.

u/Blood-Wolfe 10d ago
It's a shame she survived. Never thought I'd say such a thing but she's fucking psychotic and her crusade is against people who are not responsible for what happened and would never be responsible for such violence. Since she wants to come after us though instead of the real criminals I have lost all pity for her and the other survivors crusading with her.

>It's like if the Minister of Transportation never had a driver's license.
I mean, is it really a surprise in this country? Our current and most of our former ministers of defense have never served in the military in any capacity. The majority of cabinet members past and present are lawyers by trade, Mr. Public Safety included. Obviously not good lawyers, since they ought to know the laws they govern under even more.

What disgusts me a lot, whatās the game plan with these moronic reporters, convince the public to focus more on law abiding guns owners and keep having gang members operate with no resistance since all the money and police effort will be dealing with farmers??
Like they want Canada to fail

u/FunkyFrunkle 11d ago edited 11d ago
They can ban all the legal guns they want. They can ban legal gun ownership if they want and people will still be gunned down in the streets of Canadian cities on a daily basis as if nothing happened.
The amount of energy, breath and screen time that is being absolutely wasted on trying to push this stupid fucking narrative is whatās most frustrating. Innocent people are being caught in the crossfire of gang wars or being targeted directly by people who have absolutely no regard or respect for human life. The common denominator? None of these people have licenses. None of these people are allowed to own guns and in most cases *already* have lifetime bans on them.
The people who are the real problem keep getting released on lowball bail and theyāre collecting charges and indictments like Xbox achievements and still you get meatballs who still push the whole ālegal guns are badā schtick.
At this point blaming legal firearms makes you look stupid. When everything is gone what will you blame? What will you tell the families of victims? Will you finally admit that criminals donāt give a fuck about bans and go after them? That would be a tacit admission that you wasted years, untold amounts of money and breath just fucking around while people get killed.
God I canāt stand this shit.
48
u/IGnuGnat 11d ago
Since they started prohibiting specific models of firearms and froze handguns, shootings have actually gone up a fair amount IIRC
32
u/Assistant-Exciting 11d ago
It's almost like banning legal guns emboldens criminals or something!
9
u/I_Automate 11d ago
You are giving criminals too much credit my dude.
Banning guns didn't "embolden" anyone. Crime has been on the rise across the board and its not like your average street hood was worried about legal firearm owners in the first place, given how restricted those same owners are in terms of self defense.
Farmer Fred still has his 12 gauge by the door, just the same as he did for the last 40 years and just the same as he will until the day he dies. Nothing changed there

u/rastamasta45 11d ago
Itās absolute degeneracy at this point, literal fucking lunatics!
I swear to god JT poisoned half this country to lose all critical thinking and be like him. Itās madness

u/Newftube 11d ago

Airsoft, Paintball - you know, the "Gateway Guns" that one of the firearm prohibition lobby groups whined about awhile ago. Then probably nerf guns.
When those are gone its going to be video games with guns (again).
No, its not logical at all, but it hasn't been in a very long time. Some of the money that Poly gets has been used to motorize the proverbial goalposts.
18
u/OniDelta al 11d ago
Well they do because they benefit from the stories they will be able to tell. There's no story if there's no problem.
19
u/GinnAdvent 11d ago
Well, I think part of it is job security.
If their employers is like Global or CTV, they would have to assist the narrative that firearm owners are bad, and every opportunity to paint them in a negative way is the "right way" to keep your job.
I am sure many people view RCMP the same way, when their payroll is tie to the federal government
Media consortium seeks Tumbler Ridge shooting documents
In some way, I feel the BC government is trying to shift the blame to chatGPT for the eventual mass shooting done by the suspect to hide their own incompetence.
With so many issues relating to mental health, bad immigration policies, and our constant loophole with criminal law and enforcement. You just can't keep on stuffing it to the firearm owners face and said, yup. It's a their fault with their SKS and safe full of guns. Which mind you had been mostly prohibited, almost all prohibited, and I can count with 2 hands for semi autos left in Canada from 2020 to 2025. Oh, and how many handguns were used in crime with legal firearm owners for past 4 yrs? I don't think it's that many, I can think of maybe 3 tops.
8
u/RydNightwish 11d ago
They want to shift the blame to chatGPT (not that they don't carry some) because to have to acknowledge an extremely mentally ill teen, on gender reassignment meds plus the mental health meds they were also on, got a hold of illegal guns and shot up a school wearing a dress and wig simply must not be done. Ever.
It flies in the face of so many narratives that its necessary to bury it. If it was an incel white male, we would know everything down to the last bowel movement.
3
u/Dill_Pickle_Tears 11d ago
As much as it may anger people here for me to say it: Itās often just simple ignorance mixed with the visceral reaction shootings create. I honestly donāt blame the uninitiated and donāt necessarily think that the media has some hidden agenda. I just think itās natural to fear the things you donāt understand.
This excludes poly and other similar groups, where they clearly have an agenda and are outright intentionally misrepresenting the facts to align the narrative with a specific worldview. Even this comes from trauma and prejudice. Though this doesnāt make it right.

Even Olivia Chow is nodding along... which means some on the left know the Liberals' gun policies are performative and ineffective and are asking for real, substantive help.
28
u/Office_Responsible 11d ago
I honestly believe most people think itās a load of shit. But itās the party line or the political ideals of their group to toe the line on firearms in Canada. Itās a screaming, Quebec-based, minority that makes it such a big issue. Iām not absolving those who perpetuate the attacks on our community I just canāt see how anyone with a brain actually believes it will work, yet they continue to push it since it doesnāt affect them personally

u/sharpasahammer 11d ago
"What evidence do you have that they are illegal guns?"
She should never hold a job in serious journalism ever again. If she doesn't know how the police can identify whether a gun is legally and lawfully owned or outright illegally smuggled into Canada she doesn't need to be asking questions about firearms.
32
u/Motobud84 11d ago
The very brief indignant look on his face, immediately followed up by his matter-a-fact response is what the moment called for from this asinine reporter's question.
Reporter: quickly come up with a sound byte for my producer "yeah, but like how do you know they're illegal!?"
Was your plan to catch him in a lie? Or simply to get him on record to contradict Jim Bronskill's article regarding the RCMP's "findings"
The political capital being pissed away by the Federal Liberals clearly has a finish line. My sincere hope it that it ends with the Supreme Court, albeit, in our favor.
7
u/PhantomNomad al 11d ago
The problem I have is that the 10 to 15% that might, MIGHT, be legal firearms owners is what they will hang their hat on. Because they can't trace them back to smuggled from the USA they will conclude that they where legally purchased here. Which I can guarantee you is not the case. They just can't be traced to the USA or Canada. Hell they could be smuggled from Europe for all we know. At this point Europe has less strict laws then we do.
8
u/99spider 11d ago
Many of those firearms can also be determined with certainty to not be domestically sourced, by reason of being prohibited with no history of legal importation. Unfortunately this reasoning doesn't get applied.
If a prohibited handgun model has never been imported by any police department, movie prop company, the military, or whoever else, then clearly it can't be domestically sourced.
6
u/johnboon7 11d ago
Well she could be asking questions that the random person would ask. In that regard she set him up perfectly to disprove that.
2
u/AgreeablePanda9805 8d ago
Forget how the cops can actually trace guns. Try a little common sense.
Like if Iām a criminal and want to use a gun while committing a violent offence, am I really going to go through the hassle of the safety course, background check, wait for my license, and then get a legal gun?
Or perhaps if I am ok with breaking several laws and using a gun while committing said crimes, Iām also perfectly fine with obtaining a gun unlawfully also.
Which scenario is more likely?š¤

u/Darkm1tch69 11d ago
They taught this in my criminology courses 15 years ago. This was never a secret and the evidence has always shown that.

u/GFN_good_for_nothing 11d ago
Iām generally a āfuck the policeā guy, but that was cold as fuck Chief Demkiw. I love how they started to wave away the question and he just grinned and was like āno no fuck that letās walk this one outā

u/wyenotry 11d ago
Summary of question for people like me who are hard of hearing: āYou keep mentioning illegal guns from the United States⦠What evidence do you have that this shooting or any shooting involves illegal guns?ā ā¦or something like that. I had the phone held up to my ear.

A lot of people unironically believe this.
1
u/AgreeablePanda9805 8d ago
A lot those people are idiots then bc how long after the Nova Scotia mass shooting did that mass stabbing out West happen? And what about the incel who ran people down in North York with his van?
These incidents prove pretty conclusively that people who want to kill a lot of people will find a way to do it if theyāre motivated enough and getting rid of guns doesnāt eliminate violent crimes or spree killings.

And yet, the government will ONLY focus on legal gun owners because that's all they know to do
4

Because its easy and generates easy sound bites to sell to voters in Montreal.
Actually addressing gang violence and non existent border controls takes a hell of a lot more work, money, and time

u/Separate_Start5259 11d ago
Thank you sir! Criminal gun violence must be dealt with. Licensed gun owners who take and pass courses, register themselves with the RCMP and abide by the law are in the vast majority of cases are not the ones doing the crimes.
If you are a registered fire arms owner, it makes no sense to be a criminal like this. Why would you take courses, take and pass tests and register with the RCMP that you are a gun owner and then go out and shoot people??
That level of dedication to the law and that level of breaking the law donāt square up.
4
u/RiskClassic889 11d ago
Maybe itās time to get together and have C21 repeal. Past years was a lot about the gun confiscation program but now Carney is in charge, maybe itās time to put pressure about this to get rid of C21 and let law abiding people buy new handguns for sports shooting.

u/Practical-Mix69 11d ago
MSM reporters are trash.. they worry about their make up and outfits more than factual news.
6
u/Stryker1-1 11d ago
Wonder how the liberals will spin this to be the conservatives fault
11
u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 11d ago
In the city subreddit, people are claiming that gun bans will hurt the bottom line of American firearm manufacturers and that buying a legal firearm somehow supports illegal ones. It is amazing the kind of mental gymnastics gun control advocates will use to justify a ban, all because they are just deeply uncomfortable and scared.
3
u/heavydutydan 11d ago
I would have answered that exactly as he did, with an added, "Now, fuck off" at the end. (Guess that's why I'm not a police chief, or a cop). But seriously, how blind are people in the media to STILL be asking these questions? It's been beat to death, by multiple police departments, the CCFR, people like us online, etc, and they still don't get it. We aren't the peoblem. Fix the influx of guns from the US, and start cracking down on gangs.

thank you for saying that as i am i gun owner but how many people that are licensed gun owners are arrested with their licensed guns in a crime?

This is what law abiding gun owners have been saying for years, we are not the problem, stop blaming us.
