Carney is having a lot of issues, from being called out for doing fuckall, and with his caucus right now, potentially another one leaving. I suspect we will be having somr gun bans/gun law changes coming to help distract the people from his failures and to unify the party on something. Mag bans maybe? More semi auto bans? Other gun bans?

"Ough but they can't even do the current gun bans how will they handle the new ones!?" Doesn't matter, thats a future issue he needs something now.

Carney could slap a baby and his loyal voters would say "At least it wasn't PP, he'd have eaten the baby", and continue to vote liberal.

This doesn't work on private corporations and other nations when going beyond the talking MOU stage. All hat, no cattle.

none of the issues will be actual issues. they control the media. people are brainwashed.

A even more curfews option is banning ‘tacticool’ SKS but the wholesome Woodstock pinned magazine is okay. Idk how that ban would even work but I could see them trying something that stupid.

I don't think gun bans are exactly the winning topic for Carney right now. Funnily enough anytime I bring up the gun bans to a Carney supporter they defend Carney by saying "It was a Treadeu era idea." It's hard to call a PM pragmatic when he turns around does a pet project that only a few ridings give a shit about. They defend the bans as is as saying "Well Carney can't back down now. To much has already been invested into it." If he doubled down by adding even more shit to the list then that would break the reality of "He's just trying to wrap things up." However even all that aside as someone else said. He's got the public at the moment in the palm of his hand. He doesn't need to a 'change the channel' gun ban. He can keep doing what he's doing now and nobody seems to give a fuck.

>Funnily enough anytime I bring up the gun bans to a Carney supporter they defend Carney by saying "It was a Treadeu era idea."

Just a note, this isnt exactly a repudiation of the recent gun control regime. Liberal supporters are largely incapable of thinking for themselves. They most likely still believe only the government should have guns, because that is what theyve been taught all their lives. The line you mentioned is more of a rhetorical trick to take the wind out of your sails and obfuscate the issue. Theyre trying to create distance from their new messiah Carney from a policy that has caught a lot of flak and has been shown to be a disgrace.

Its the same exact trick with the whole carbon tax thing. They never disagreed with it when Trudeau was around, and they still dont philosophically disagree with it, nor do they posses the ability to even think about it logically. Its just that the CBC has told them that Carney is the new thing to be excited about, and the guy to fall in line behind, and he says that the carbon tax is so yesterday!(but also, we still need one? lets not get into that!)

This is all to say that we shouldnt kid ourselves, or take any sort of comfort in what the normie cattle are saying. If Carney came out with a ban tomorrow and laid the buzzwords on thick, the normoids would p*ss and Shi*d themselves with jubilation.

It’s funny as the wind out of the sails can be very easily brought back by saying “How much double downing on the carbon tax did JT did that Carney just ended?”

Yea to add more nuance to what I said above you are right. They are in a strange contradictory plain of existence.

Maybe but it really depends how the media spins it. That’s one thing I have noticed.

I dont even try anymore. In my experience, if people are publicly defending Liberal policy, its already too late for them. I even have tried with a couple friends/ family. It always ends the same. They agree to your logic after 30 minutes of breaking it down, and then the next time you guys talk about something its like you never had the conversation. Youre going up against 10-20-30 years, even 40 for boomers of constant indoctrination. Youd drive yourself mad trying to go against that.

Even my own mother, who is depressed because all her children had to move 1000s of kms away from our birthplace because its unaffordable, still not able to break the LPC spell no matter how hard I try. And its funny cause she complains about tons of stuff that has become so blatantly ridiculous and she acknowledges the LPC caused it, but she still thinks the CPC are the antichrist or something.

As the saying goes. I don’t debate for the person I am debating I debate for the people who are watching and listening. I have been able to convince some people but not that many I admit. Generally what I do now is try to get people who want to become PAL holders help them to get there pals. As the way I see it the more PAL holders the better.

See that is painful to me and the most boomer minded thing “Okay so you know the liberals are bad but you think the conservatives are worse… Have you tried voting for anybody else then?” Which so many times I hear the argument “You are throwing your vote away by doing that.” But if you hate both parties then I would say it’s not throwing your vote away as if I could only pick between two parties I wouldn’t even vote. If I did it would be a spoiled ballet.

u/WeightedDips95 May 19 '26

I think I kinda get what youre saying but youre validating a deluded and destructive worldview that the LPC is like the imperfect good and the CPC is the antichrist. This belief is what has taken Canada into the abyss.

3

u/Natural_Comparison21 May 19 '26

Sure but if someone is calling one party the anti christ good luck getting them to vote for that party.

2

u/WeightedDips95 May 19 '26

Well if everyone around them indulges their ignorance than no wonder they believe it. In any case, CPC is literally the only sane option with a chance of winning. Its not like convincing them to vote NDP is a win, unless youre being sneaky and want them to split the vote.

I could always be wrong, but I don’t think we’re staring at any more gun bans in the near future. Parliament is about to break for summer, and this whole thing is a mess. A mess that’s headed to the Supreme Court.

I expect them to make announcements on things that are actively gripping public attention which orbits around the economy because so far that’s where the most positive press is coming from for the government, with “trade deals” and expediting reviews for national projects.

Gun bans don’t offer that release valve anymore, and they haven’t for a while because nobody cares anymore. This whole thing is ballooning in cost to the point where even the media doesn’t even fluff it anymore.

I’m not really expecting anything to get announced.

8

u/Natural_Comparison21 May 18 '26

They got 20 more days to announce something (unless they choose to do it durning the weekend for some reason.) That’s not much time. The Supreme Court case and the fact they will need to deal with the October gun bans doesn’t help matters either. As chances are they would have to extend the gun ban again if they added more guns to the ban list. Overall maybe after the SC course ruling if they rule in favour of the CCFR they introduce legislation sometime in 2027. Which here’s a trip down memory lane. It took with a majority government mind you to pass Bill C-71 14 months to get from the house to the senate to be done. The government has 41 months left of sitting time before the next federal election…

7

u/FunkyFrunkle May 19 '26

They have 20 days to announce it, and when they return in September, they have until the 30th of the following month to do something to prevent an injunction if they don’t extend the amnesty.

They’re in a rush to collect and destroy as much as they can to try and make the injunction pointless, but we’ll see how it plays out.

5

u/Natural_Comparison21 May 19 '26

Fair enough. They are running out of time though. Which is why I don’t think they will be adding anything else to the ban list until October 30th passes.

I could always be wrong, but I don’t think we’re staring at any more gun bans in the near future

The Makasi and Carmel are 100% getting the banhammer in the near future, that's not in question.

But Wendy Cukier, in that interview with TVO that people are rage-sharing, did say that she thinks the laws are fine now when asked about what should come next. If the anti-gun lobbyists are now shifting from "we need new laws" to "the laws are now good and we need to focus on enforcement", then yeah, I agree we probably won't see anything large-scale anytime soon.

Gun bans don’t offer that release valve anymore, and they haven’t for a while because nobody cares anymore.

I think it's a bit beyond "nobody cares". They've made such a fuckup of the confiscation program, and caught so much controversy for it, that they're probably going to be actively avoiding gun control as a wedge issue for the forseeable future. Gary did say as much in his leaked tape.

5

u/FunkyFrunkle May 19 '26

Yeah, I forgot to add the caveat that anything new that’s semi-auto cope guns are probably going to get banned. If not by OIC, I’d expect it to be captured by the new legislation aimed at streamlining the Firearms Act or FRT update.

This whole thing has gone from political showboating to an actively corrosive policy that has compounded into a biblical logistical and legal nightmare that has been opposed by nearly every province and territory save for two. Combined with massive deficits and infrastructure projects that command more money, I really believe that the appetite for more gun control has evaporated, and the focus has shifted to trying to get this thing off the books.

4

u/Natural_Comparison21 May 19 '26

I did find that part of the interview interesting when Wendy Cukier didn't demand anymore gun bans. Idk if that was her just saying 'the right thing' for the camera or if some segments of the anti gun movement in Canada are realizing that laws are useless when you have no meaningful way to enforce them. You can make every paper law you want but if you are not capable of enforcing then in a meaningful capacity they are useless.

I think it’s them not wanting to rock the boat anymore and risk pushing the whole project over the edge. This whole thing is being met with unprecedented resistance on almost every level, and the program is objectively closer to complete and total collapse than it is to a measurable success.

I’m not defending the guy, and I know people here are sick of hearing it, but the objective truth is Carney has shown very little enthusiasm for the program, and has even breezed past it entirely when directly asked about violent crime. That is completely intentional. He’s actively trying to distance himself from the program and the gun control groups have noticed. It’s causing them a whole lot of heartburn and anxiety.

Just look at MP Provost during the last media briefing. Look at what she was saying and her body language. She was begging for people to rat out friends and family. She shoved the minister out of the way, she was visibly anxious and rattled. That’s not what confidence looks like. That’s what it looks like when your program is collapsing in slow-motion and you haven’t been given assurances behind closed doors.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some internal friction between the gun control groups and government. This whole mess is going to the Supreme Court because of how the gun control groups demanded these bans be imposed. Now the government stands a very real chance of having their executive power severely weakened, depending on the Supreme Court ruling which is effectively a coin toss.

Current political and economic conditions aren’t very conducive for a multi-billion dollar gun ban and if they keep pushing for more, they risk dragging the whole program beneath the waves and drowning it entirely. They largely got what they wanted, asking for more will threaten this program, not benefit it. All it takes is for some popular social programs to be cut while the gun ban remains unscathed for people to start asking pointed questions, which we’ve seen already.

I don’t think people really understand how badly this program is going because we’ve become so withdrawn.

4

u/Natural_Comparison21 May 19 '26

I think this is to go and show the sheer hubris of the anti gun community. Instead of waiting for the first OIC to be done they demanded more. Now it’s become a absolute mess for a project to deal with just by the sheer volume.

It's funny how a couple floor crossers and the media talks about it forever and questions the CPC, but liberal MPs quitting like crazy and the media asks no questions. All these special appointments, are obviously because the MPs wanted to quit, and potentially a bit of bribing to there is no "whistleblowing" on the inner workings of the LPC. There is obvious discontent in the LPC currently. I love it.
