First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Just a note, this isnt exactly a repudiation of the recent gun control regime. Liberal supporters are largely incapable of thinking for themselves. They most likely still believe only the government should have guns, because that is what theyve been taught all their lives. The line you mentioned is more of a rhetorical trick to take the wind out of your sails and obfuscate the issue. Theyre trying to create distance from their new messiah Carney from a policy that has caught a lot of flak and has been shown to be a disgrace.

Its the same exact trick with the whole carbon tax thing. They never disagreed with it when Trudeau was around, and they still dont philosophically disagree with it, nor do they posses the ability to even think about it logically. Its just that the CBC has told them that Carney is the new thing to be excited about, and the guy to fall in line behind, and he says that the carbon tax is so yesterday!(but also, we still need one? lets not get into that!)

This is all to say that we shouldnt kid ourselves, or take any sort of comfort in what the normie cattle are saying. If Carney came out with a ban tomorrow and laid the buzzwords on thick, the normoids would p*ss and Shi*d themselves with jubilation.

Yea to add more nuance to what I said above you are right. They are in a strange contradictory plain of existence.

Maybe but it really depends how the media spins it. That’s one thing I have noticed.

I dont even try anymore. In my experience, if people are publicly defending Liberal policy, its already too late for them. I even have tried with a couple friends/ family. It always ends the same. They agree to your logic after 30 minutes of breaking it down, and then the next time you guys talk about something its like you never had the conversation. Youre going up against 10-20-30 years, even 40 for boomers of constant indoctrination. Youd drive yourself mad trying to go against that.

Even my own mother, who is depressed because all her children had to move 1000s of kms away from our birthplace because its unaffordable, still not able to break the LPC spell no matter how hard I try. And its funny cause she complains about tons of stuff that has become so blatantly ridiculous and she acknowledges the LPC caused it, but she still thinks the CPC are the antichrist or something.

As the saying goes. I don’t debate for the person I am debating I debate for the people who are watching and listening. I have been able to convince some people but not that many I admit. Generally what I do now is try to get people who want to become PAL holders help them to get there pals. As the way I see it the more PAL holders the better.

See that is painful to me and the most boomer minded thing “Okay so you know the liberals are bad but you think the conservatives are worse… Have you tried voting for anybody else then?” Which so many times I hear the argument “You are throwing your vote away by doing that.” But if you hate both parties then I would say it’s not throwing your vote away as if I could only pick between two parties I wouldn’t even vote. If I did it would be a spoiled ballet.

I think I kinda get what youre saying but youre validating a deluded and destructive worldview that the LPC is like the imperfect good and the CPC is the antichrist. This belief is what has taken Canada into the abyss.

Well if everyone around them indulges their ignorance than no wonder they believe it. In any case, CPC is literally the only sane option with a chance of winning. Its not like convincing them to vote NDP is a win, unless youre being sneaky and want them to split the vote.
