Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Carney is having a lot of issues, from being called out for doing fuckall, and with his caucus right now, potentially another one leaving. I suspect we will be having somr gun bans/gun law changes coming to help distract the people from his failures and to unify the party on something. Mag bans maybe? More semi auto bans? Other gun bans?

"Ough but they can't even do the current gun bans how will they handle the new ones!?" Doesn't matter, thats a future issue he needs something now.

I could always be wrong, but I don’t think we’re staring at any more gun bans in the near future. Parliament is about to break for summer, and this whole thing is a mess. A mess that’s headed to the Supreme Court.

I expect them to make announcements on things that are actively gripping public attention which orbits around the economy because so far that’s where the most positive press is coming from for the government, with “trade deals” and expediting reviews for national projects.

Gun bans don’t offer that release valve anymore, and they haven’t for a while because nobody cares anymore. This whole thing is ballooning in cost to the point where even the media doesn’t even fluff it anymore.

I’m not really expecting anything to get announced.

They got 20 more days to announce something (unless they choose to do it durning the weekend for some reason.) That’s not much time. The Supreme Court case and the fact they will need to deal with the October gun bans doesn’t help matters either. As chances are they would have to extend the gun ban again if they added more guns to the ban list. Overall maybe after the SC course ruling if they rule in favour of the CCFR they introduce legislation sometime in 2027. Which here’s a trip down memory lane. It took with a majority government mind you to pass Bill C-71 14 months to get from the house to the senate to be done. The government has 41 months left of sitting time before the next federal election…

They have 20 days to announce it, and when they return in September, they have until the 30th of the following month to do something to prevent an injunction if they don’t extend the amnesty.

They’re in a rush to collect and destroy as much as they can to try and make the injunction pointless, but we’ll see how it plays out.

Fair enough. They are running out of time though. Which is why I don’t think they will be adding anything else to the ban list until October 30th passes.
