Sounds like just not complying is the better of all the options.

u/soviet_toster Apr 13 '26

Even the RCMP think the gun buyback is a dumb idea

81

u/IcySkyDream Apr 13 '26

Methinks this is the same RCMP “compliance” that gave us the formerly-NR FX-9, Stag-10, WK-180 variants and more recently, the British bull pup.

Keep in mind it was undemocratic LPC OICs that rendered the above firearms prohibited.

HOLD THE LINE!

12

u/Fast_Introduction_34 Apr 13 '26

Which was the British bull?

Keep in mind this is AFTER all the OIC sheaninagans.

There’re paid RCMP dudes/dudettes out there belligerently classifying anything not-an-AR15 as NR.

🤭

u/Anthrex Apr 13 '26

finally, a gun less reliable than the WK-180 /s

u/propyro85 Lead Slinging Liberal Apr 13 '26

Aww, the FX-9 isn't NR anymore?

1

u/IcySkyDream Apr 13 '26

It was and could have still been, but unfortunately is no longer, thanks to an OIC. 😔

2

u/Braddock54 Apr 14 '26

They have yet to say this.

u/c20710 Apr 13 '26

Don’t worry, I won’t

“Mounties say arriving at a detachment with unsecured or unregistered firearms is a criminal offence, even if the intent is to follow the rules.”

You tried to comply! You’re under arrest!

Look on the bright side; this looks like malicious compliance from the RCMP, in line with every other police service in Canada refusing to lift a finger.

Keep in mind it was the RCMP that originally decided the various now-prohibited-via-OIC firearms should be non-restricted.

This smells like the response from MB and SK that many didn’t seem to understand was also malicious compliance.

The SCC has also agreed to hear the CCFR appeal.

We are a law-abiding community in a civilized, law-abiding country after all, hmm? 🤔🤭

And here is your zero dollar compensation for bail.

28

u/DougMacRay617 Apr 13 '26

Nah you need to compensate them

31

u/Former-Homework-7833 Apr 13 '26

Sounds like a trap all around honestly. If someone wanted to turn them in, they become a criminal, if they don’t they become a criminal. That’s messed up

u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 Apr 13 '26

In a statement Sunday, RCMP said several individuals have recently attended Upper Fraser Valley detachments hoping to relinquish their firearms in person, a move police say is causing more concern than compliance.

Who are those eager beavers?!

27

u/soundssarcastic bc Apr 13 '26

Real rule followers, Im sure.

32

u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 Apr 13 '26

I'm envisioning some old granny or grandpa bringing in a shopping bag full of hardware 😂

8

u/IGnuGnat Apr 13 '26

LOL

wearing an old plaid jacket and a pair of crocs

70

u/alter3d Apr 13 '26

Don't hand in my guns to police.

Got it. No problem.

64

u/feelingblurple Apr 13 '26

Why do they still keep calling this a buyback program? It’s disingenuous to do so.

19

u/gunscythe Apr 13 '26

Considering they only really budgeted enough money to pay for the known restricted firearms they were taking. There is over 120,000 of those. There should be a saying for when you promise to pay for something, but then don’t pay for it.

27

u/dgod40 Apr 13 '26

This is what I've been saying all along. They don't want compliance. They have no money to pay for 100% compliance. This is the preferred situation for them. They can collect their "buyback" registered guns. Pay that out. Anyone else with restricted who didn't participate will get harshly worded letters and possible PAL non renewals and vilified as being anti government gun toying nutters. Everyone else with previously non restricted will be left alone until you are caught doing something wrong. They will say 67000 guns off the streets is saving trillions of lives.

Also, how in the fuck is the number actually 67 thousand. It's like some sort of meme world we are living in.

2

u/Longjumping_Deer3006 Apr 13 '26

67 67 67, that's how.

3

u/Lumindan Apr 13 '26

Because the second they call it a confiscation it opens up a can of worms the government/cops don't want.

51

u/LongRoadNorth Apr 13 '26

I won't be surprised if they expect us to let them come in to our homes to take it.

I tried getting rid of old primers a few years ago and was told by the hazardous dump that only police can take it. When I called the non emergency line they wanted to send officers to my house to come in and gather them. I told them no, I will dispose of them at the range instead.

Like fuck I'm letting a cop into my house without a warrant.

11

u/rastamasta45 Apr 13 '26

When I called my local police, they also said they only allow for police to come to your home…. Not a great process.

11

u/HappyCan7250 Apr 13 '26

You shouldn't have anything to give them anyway man...

2

u/scotheath Apr 13 '26

Pretty sure clowny is pushing bills through that will allow searching our homes without a warrant, or any reason at all for that matter. With that law they pushing through restricting social media to youths. How exactly are they going to enforce that ? Coming into our homes to check with out a warrant in the name of our children’s safety

-2

u/dgod40 Apr 13 '26

This may be the most nonsensical thing I've read in a while.

7

u/mywaaaaife Apr 13 '26

Won’t be nonsensical when it’s reality.

2

u/jollygreengiant1655 Apr 13 '26

You may want to look up and see what's actually going on

Yes, its a link to X because I couldn't find a non paywalled article.

u/Remarkable_Vanilla34 Apr 13 '26

Do not take the guns out of your house without authorization to transport from the CFO, the local detachment or LPC saying you can bring them down is not authorization, the CFO needs to give you authorization and you need to make sure that transportation permit covers you if for some reason you can't turn your firearms in.

Document everything, do not assume the collection point will get the process wrong, you do not want the government kicking your door in and shooting your dog because a clerical error was made and now your trying to prove that you turned in a gun that the crown still believes you own and no way to prove it.

This is the government organizing this, its poorly implemented and there will almost certainly be problems.

I would apply this advice to people who are not participating in the governments "buy back" but might feel obligated to turn in their firearms before or if the amnesty isn't extended. This will be a even more complicated situation because the government is not prepared to deal with these firearms and still refuse to admit they even exist. Currently, come October there will likely be thousands of people who try to comply if they don't believe the amnesty is going to be extended.

5

u/TescoValueSoup Apr 13 '26

The amnesty includes a provision to transport the NPF's to a place for destruction or surrender.
You do not need to request an ATT from the CFO.

SOR-2025-87

(2) The purpose of the amnesty period is to
(a) permit a person referred to in paragraph (1)(a) or (b) to
(i) deactivate the specified firearm so that it is no longer a firearm,
(ii) deliver the specified firearm to a police officer for destruction or other disposal,
(ii.1) if the person is an individual who has entered into an agreement with the Government of Canada to have specified firearms destroyed, deliver the specified firearm to a person referred to in paragraph (1)(e) for destruction,

19

u/Whispersfine Apr 13 '26

Time to end this clown show already.

13

u/NL1839 Apr 13 '26

It was time 10 years ago

(I’m referring to when the liberals formed government incase someone missed that))

1

u/FacetiousSpaceman Apr 13 '26

By the end of the day today they'll have a majority government so you might as well bend over and throw away the lube in advance, we're all getting fucked

1

u/Whispersfine Apr 13 '26

I don’t give a fuck about liberal majority. They need to realize this is not feasible.

20

u/IGnuGnat Apr 13 '26

Huh. It sounds a little bit like maybe they don't want armed strangers showing up unannounced.

That's a coincidence, I feel exactly the same way.

15

u/redjohn79 Apr 13 '26

To even call this a buyback is a lie. It's a confiscation.

51

u/ItchYouCannotReach Apr 13 '26

This is because people just show up and open carry shit into the detachment with zero notice.

40

u/rastamasta45 Apr 13 '26

Daniel Fritter talks about how this is a concern of his, people will show up with AR’s in mags or when cops come to the home, hand it in walking with an AR.

It’s a mess waiting to happen

9

u/IcySkyDream Apr 13 '26

So, open carry my Eh-Ar? Got it! 👌😎🤭

8

u/jollygreengiant1655 Apr 13 '26

Am I the only one here who is a bit alarmed that cops aren't able to differentiate between a citizen surrendering firearms, and a potential threat??

8

u/thecoolernameistaken Apr 13 '26

Asking a lot from the rcmp

7

u/PizzaExisting9878 Apr 13 '26

Be glad you don’t look like a firehall

3

u/jollygreengiant1655 Apr 13 '26

It still blows my mind that that entire fiasco was just brushed under the rug.

3

u/Metalock Apr 13 '26

RCMP and the Liberals are master spin doctors/propagandists.

Both should be getting held accountable for their corruption and ineptitude to a much higher degree than Canadians are currently doing.

3

u/thecoolernameistaken Apr 13 '26

Good the more chaos they make for themselves the more they’ll have to double down or back off

10

u/northern-thinker Apr 13 '26

Well it looks like the LPC can’t even organize a collective.

10

u/Dry_Diet9916 Apr 13 '26

Do not comply.

10

u/jollygreengiant1655 Apr 13 '26

What did they expect? People have been told that they are no longer allowed to have these firearms and must surrender them. So naturally people are going to bring these firearms to the agency that we as society have entrusted to deal with firearms issues.

If police detachments don't want that happening because they are concerned about officers mistaking these people for threats, then maybe these people need to find another line of work. Police admitting they might not be able to tell the difference between a citizen surrendering firearms and a threat is deeply concerning.

10

u/canadianmohawk1 Apr 13 '26

"Don't bring your guns to the police"

Sure thing!

8

u/Fuck_you_all22 Apr 13 '26

Lol. Liberals "surrender your weapons of war." Horse police "go away. We don't want your guns." Canada officially became a farce.

4

u/floppy_breasteses Apr 13 '26

Lol, don't worry. I will definitely not be doing that.

5

u/GinnAdvent Apr 13 '26

To be fair, even before this whole buy back started, you would probably call them first to verify and maybe make appointment first.

Show up with a firearm unannounced do usually results in issues.

2

u/BaldCobraChicken Apr 13 '26

Forward this to your local tax dollar dependent politician lol what a joke

3

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '26

The Amnesty specifically says you are permitted to bring firearms to law enforcement for disposal (transported properly of course). At the end of the day you wouldn't have a legal issue trying.

I kinda want to see someone try and get rejected by the horse cops. That would be peak failure of the entire program.

1

u/BagStank Apr 13 '26

Not related to the confiscation, but my brother in law bought a house and found a shotgun in the shed when he took possession of the home. He doesn't have a PAL, so he showed up at the local PD and told them he had a gun in the trunk of his car that he wanted to turn in. They were less than impressed.

1

u/ThePoeticJester Apr 13 '26

Malicious compliance haha

Want em? Here! Not my problem anymore! That said dont turn in shit to any of them

1

u/EcstaticCrab2795 Apr 13 '26

“If you resist, you will be charged” “If you comply, you will be charged”

What’s it going to be Libs?

2

u/Dry-Meringue-8744 Apr 14 '26

I’ll follow the law and whatever process is ultimately required — that’s not in question.

What’s frustrating, and honestly pretty sad, is how much confusion this has caused. Every week or two I get calls from people I know asking things like, “Is this a good handgun?” I explain that in Canada you need the proper licence, registration, and paperwork — and that many of the firearms they’re asking about aren’t even legal to buy or transfer anymore.

Those conversations used to be rare. Now they’re common, and that alone should raise concerns for anyone who actually cares about public safety. Even more concerning is hearing people talk about — or openly admit to — buying illegal handguns because they believe there’s no longer a legal path. To be absolutely clear, I don’t support that at all and I tell people straight out that it’s dangerous and criminal. But ignoring that this is happening doesn’t make it go away.

When lawful, regulated channels disappear without a clear replacement, frustration tends to build rather than resolve itself. In that environment, misinformation spreads more easily, some people lose confidence in the legal process, and you start to hear misguided talk — including references to “militia” groups — that reflects confusion and distrust more than anything constructive. That’s not something I support or want any part of.

The RCMP warning reported by Global News makes sense from a safety standpoint, and it’s clear they don’t want to be put in the middle of this. From the outside, it looks like the RCMP are being forced into a reactive role — dealing with confused owners and unclear processes that were created at the policy level. If compliance is the goal, then clear, written instructions should have been in place long before officers were left issuing warnings after the fact.

I’ll stay within the lines. I just wish the government had done a better job of drawing those lines in the first place.
