What did they expect? People have been told that they are no longer allowed to have these firearms and must surrender them. So naturally people are going to bring these firearms to the agency that we as society have entrusted to deal with firearms issues.

If police detachments don't want that happening because they are concerned about officers mistaking these people for threats, then maybe these people need to find another line of work. Police admitting they might not be able to tell the difference between a citizen surrendering firearms and a threat is deeply concerning.
