Do not take the guns out of your house without authorization to transport from the CFO, the local detachment or LPC saying you can bring them down is not authorization, the CFO needs to give you authorization and you need to make sure that transportation permit covers you if for some reason you can't turn your firearms in.

Document everything, do not assume the collection point will get the process wrong, you do not want the government kicking your door in and shooting your dog because a clerical error was made and now your trying to prove that you turned in a gun that the crown still believes you own and no way to prove it.

This is the government organizing this, its poorly implemented and there will almost certainly be problems.

I would apply this advice to people who are not participating in the governments "buy back" but might feel obligated to turn in their firearms before or if the amnesty isn't extended. This will be a even more complicated situation because the government is not prepared to deal with these firearms and still refuse to admit they even exist. Currently, come October there will likely be thousands of people who try to comply if they don't believe the amnesty is going to be extended.

The amnesty includes a provision to transport the NPF's to a place for destruction or surrender.
You do not need to request an ATT from the CFO.

SOR-2025-87

(2) The purpose of the amnesty period is to
(a) permit a person referred to in paragraph (1)(a) or (b) to
(i) deactivate the specified firearm so that it is no longer a firearm,
(ii) deliver the specified firearm to a police officer for destruction or other disposal,
(ii.1) if the person is an individual who has entered into an agreement with the Government of Canada to have specified firearms destroyed, deliver the specified firearm to a person referred to in paragraph (1)(e) for destruction,
