Man what a fucking fire sale price for the government. I wish I could buy a type 81 for $2 - a toonie!!!!
65
u/Schrodinger_cube Mar 05 '26
Considering what the street value would be selling it on jane and finch as a smuggled ak would be a lot more than the legal price im betting, its almost like they really want them to end up there.
25
u/IGnuGnat Mar 05 '26
I think they are architecting and building the largest black market in firearms that Canada has ever seen, and they know it. Can you imagine if everyone just quietly turned in 100% of everything immediately? They would be lost with nothing to b tch about
This way, they have a massive black market, which if you think about it, it actually benefits them politically. Look at that big, bad, BLACK assault-style market. It's a boogie-man, sending votes their way for ever and ever and ever
and it will only cost them a billion or so of hard earned tax payer dollars.

The other thing is that as far as I know, prohib is a prohib right? So for all the non-compliers out there with ARs and such, if you're going to keep it why not add a fun switch and yoink that silly little rivet out?
The government opened that can of worms imo.

I would rather melt it with a tiger torch than get $2 for a rifle that cost 4 figures and cost me $10 just to drive down to the police station to hand it over...
43
u/fedplast Mar 05 '26
Hm i think YOU have to pay 2$ to turn it in

18
u/Lumindan Mar 05 '26
Given how unfriendly the courts are to most firearms cases? I wouldn't hold my breath

Not long ago, whenever there was a societal challenge to the laws of Canada, there were many high powered lawyers used to challenge these laws. The news stations and papers had content for ages. I'd like to know why there arent any high profile lawyers challenging what is an illegal, unconstitutional, charter defying attack on our liberties. theres no way any free nation would allow its government of the people to interfere in every choice we make in life. Where are the Greenspans I ask? The more I see of this corrupt planet, the more it becomes apparent. That all of this is about reducing us to slave status. Im not playing their uncivil game. They were not elected to shit on our freedoms or our rights. These are the times in history where the people unite and send these crooked governments running. thanks for listening
34
u/Whispersfine Mar 04 '26
This is a good starting price for an auction. 2 dollars 2 dollars, do I hear 3? 4 in the back , do I have a 5? đ
Just kidding, mods
27
u/22GageEnthusiast Mar 05 '26
Ok honestly how is this even fucking legal? Like if you're going to do a gun "buy-back" program then you need to be offering every affected gun owner over and above market value for every firearm. NOT FUCKING 2 DOLLARS
12
u/thisghy Mar 05 '26
Its legal in a banana Republic like Canada where the political elite is simply a ruling class and there is no real democracy.
23
u/JAFOguy Mar 05 '26
The thing I am wondering about is if I declare and the government says that I will get a certain amount ofmoney based on the price list they published, and the government doesn't pay me that amount, isn't it a breach of contract? And if the government is already telling me that they are going to breach the contract, why would I enter into a contract with them in the first place? I tend to try to not do business with liars, and they are straight up lying.

Pretty sure you could already sue. There is significant case law on crown Expropriation requiring compensation.
Since an OIC is authorized by the crown, does not explicitly call for expropriation without compensation, and is not an act of parliament. Manitoba Fisheries v. Crown is applicable.
Idk, talk to a lawyer
3
u/New-Replacement-2352 Mar 06 '26

They could have realized it at pilot program and stop the wastage of money. But they already fucking drained our tax dollars into their pockets. 70% of the total cost is just freaking administrative fee to fill their own pockets
7
u/Lumindan Mar 05 '26
They know it's a waste and doesn't target crime, it's never been the goal
4
u/Ok_Juggernaut1074 Mar 05 '26
Exactly! every Canadian in their right mind knows that. But it really hurts to see the wastage of our tax dollars and rightful law abiding citizens being called out criminals indirectly. This money could have gone to right cause enforcing our border control for illegal guns.

Are they offering to pay for the deactivation?
35
u/HappyCan7250 Mar 04 '26
They say they are, but let's be real, they won't be paying anyone who deactivates either. Deactivations are going to be very bottom of the list for "priority" on payment.
13
u/sushixp bc Mar 05 '26
And must be done by the ones on this list.
https://rcmp.ca/en/firearms/businesses-authorized-perform-firearm-deactivations
It would be funny if all the businesses conduct mass non compliance... and say... yeah you got 400 bucks to deactivate??
We charge 1000 bucks a gun to deactivate....
7
u/EvanAzzo Mar 05 '26
No it doesn't
"The following does not represent an exhaustive list of businesses certified in deactivation. Contact the Chief Firearms Officer in your jurisdiction, to determine the businesses certified in deactivation closest to your community."

Iâm confused. What is this $2 on the turn in option? Are we having to pay them to turn guns in?
30
u/Green-Thumb-Jeff Mar 05 '26
You already paid them, itâs funded by taxpayers moneyâŚ
10
5
u/Infinite_Price_3550 Mar 05 '26
That is not helpful. Obviously we already âpaidâ them for any government program. I want to know what this $2 is.
5
u/starw24-ps4 Mar 05 '26
Apparently they had issues listing some guns on there for their accurate prices. Might be an issue with different versions like the SA vs LMG, not sure. It says to call them if itâs listed as 1 or 2 dollars and they will tell you what the ârealâ value is.
Not that youâre getting any of it
7
u/FedInformant Mar 05 '26
Did they initially say they would be paying $1500 for the type 81??

3
u/klintbeastwood10 Mar 06 '26
M1 garand's miraculously aren't on the list.... A guy down the street from me just got one a few days ago lol.
They aren't cheap though...
5
7
u/megoder Mar 05 '26
Thatâs just disrespectful and unlawful for the government to offer you $2. Pathetic fuckers
5
u/thxxx1337 Mar 05 '26
I hope this doesn't mean 136k units were declared
13
u/rastamasta45 Mar 05 '26
lol worse, the government managed to steal all the money before they even compensated a single person or took a single gun. This will be a 6 billion dollar boondoggle.
5
u/This_Hedgehog_3246 Mar 05 '26
A couple random pieces of sarcasm...
Lake Koocanusa crosses the BC / MT border.
MT doesn't require background checks on private sales, or boating accidents.
3
Mar 05 '26
But they offer $400 for deactivation? What is this? This wasnât part of the initial offer sent in email⌠which isnât a legal form of communication btw. What a joke. Gary the chipmunk has a large sword to fall on.
4
7
u/Abramshunter Mar 05 '26
If we're going to be serious, I think it is an error/placeholder value. Regular Type 81's are listed for up to $1000 value on the compensation amount list but the LMG amount says "call contact centre." So it's some other screwup I think.
3
u/airchinapilot Mar 05 '26
Yea I work in software. The $2 looks like the floor value.
3
u/chillyrabbit Mar 05 '26
What else is wrong then? I mean if this was not supposed to be $2 what if there are items that were valued at $850 when fair market is supposed to be $1000?
How can someone trust that the government is "fairly" compensating owners, when something that was supposedly tested has errors like this.
3
u/Cre_AK47 Name Prohibited by OIC Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26
But I'm kind of confused, though, because there's only two Type 81 FRNs. Type81SA and Type81SR. The LMG version still uses the Type81SA FRN
2
u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Mar 05 '26
You might have a point that all "call for price" ones show up as the $2 placeholder value. Can anyone try with another firearm?

HK416D. Turn in was $2. It was on a post from Tiger Arms on Facebook.
Maybe we should send both to CCFR and see if they will go after some answers for it. I've DM'd you the link on FB to the post.
Update: Tracey already on it on X.

Iâm a dual citizen (US and Canada). Is anyone in the same situation considering exporting their prohibs to the US? I have the ATF form downloaded but not sure on timelines, tips, etc. any advice or know any lawyers or dealers that can assist with this? What does deactivation mean?
1
u/Cre_AK47 Name Prohibited by OIC Mar 05 '26
They allegedly will pay you $400 towards the deactivation of your firearm, which has to be done at CFO recognized and approved business. Basically, any holes or moving parts get welded shut.
1
u/iShatterBladderz Mar 05 '26
So you still have to pay someone else to do the deactivation then. I thought it meant they give you $400 and deactivate it for you, i was wondering why anybody would choose turn in for $2 when you can get $400 for deactivating lol
2
u/Cre_AK47 Name Prohibited by OIC Mar 05 '26
Yep. Basically, the $400 is supposed to act as a rebate. You'll still probably be under the table after everything is said and done, and you'll have a welded piece of shit
