Give an inch, they take a mile. Gun control was and will never be about safety. So to answer your question, high odds if this community keeps capitulating and continues to yell about sports shooting.

If there is any ban on manual action arms it will be in the form of a feature ban. The government has already pushed the "high power rifle" ban with the May 2020 OIC.

They will be very careful in their approach to this though. The media is already questioning them on why a handgun ban is anything but an attack on legal owners. If they start banning manual action firearms they will lose all media support.

Nothing's impossible, obviously, but keep in mind that the more they expand the definition of an assault weapon, the more guns they're stuck picking up the tab for (and they will have to pay for them, before somebody jumps in with "they can confiscate without paying a dime". Not on this scale. The optics alone would be too much, let alone the legal threat.)

We know that right now, the threshold for the amount of guns they're willing to confiscate is higher than 250, 000 (their AWB estimate) and lower than 1,000,000 (the approximate number of handguns). If they banned every gun with a box magazine and folding stock, they'd be well above a million.

Just something to think about when considering their intentions.

For the Liberals, it's all a cost-benefit analysis. They think about what people are scared of and what they can ban to give people a false sense of security. But they'll only want to ban "enough" so they don't alienate too much of the general Canadian population. Banning handguns and "assault style rifles" pay off well because people are scared of these guns and banning them won't make the Liberals lose the fudd votes. But the Liberals will be careful of where they draw the line for other types of guns. Poly is NOT the Liberal party. Poly doesn't care about fudd votes, but the Liberals party does. Poly is motivated by psychological trauma, but the Liberal party is motivated by polls and politics. So to predict the future of bans, don't look at gun features or logic. Look at what the majority of Canadians want to ban. Because that's where you'll find the Liberals.
