News / Politics / Activism What happened to Cross Industries?

Post image

I had been following crossmags for a long time as Cross kept teasing us with .308 coupler mags for competition shooting. They also teased 7.62x39 coupler magazines.

I went into the backrooms to find my old gear and was reminiscing about days before the great banning. And I saw them... my crossmags...

I went to google Cross Industries and it seems that all of their socials are dead. I can't find their website, and everyone is out of stock of their magazines. I'm not surprised. When all of the MSRs are banned, you lose a business built entirely on being a legal supply of more than 5-rounds.

Does anyone know if they got bought out? Who owns their IP? I would love to see the tech go to MDT. I imagine they can do something great with it.

I was so excited for 7.62x39 magazines...

Wow, that's sad. They had such great customer service. I was hoping they would do well.

14

u/looloopklopm 8d ago

I heard they paid their customer reps $300k/year. Probably what did them in /s

6

u/Ben-jams 8d ago

lol maybe they were close friends or family. In a real business environment unless they were selling to LE/Military this would for sure blow up their business.

9

u/looloopklopm 8d ago

Yeah I'm totally kidding. Making a joke that they put all their money into the customer service experience... Haha

u/Ben-jams 8d ago

Woooshhhh right over my head. Also not common though in defence and LE sales though.

It is a shame. Cross mags used to be stock everywhere. Look how many we lost since 2015…

I always forget about the weird shit Canadians have to deal with in terms of their shooting hobbies.

u/BrotherLefthand 9d ago

Right? The government decided 30 rounds was too much, so we were limited to 5. But pistols could have 10... and pistol rifles could also have 10 because they were pistols... and the rule applied to the magazine, not the firearm so rifles could also have 10 rounds... make it make sense.

u/Spyrothedragon9972 9d ago

I have like twelve 30 round pmags and four 20 round 7.62 mags sitting on my desk right now. To be fair those are illegal in some U.S. states too, but it's just plastic with a metal spring lol. Imagine getting arrested and going to jail because of a $20 plastic rifle magazine.

u/AnvilsHammer 8d ago

The more fun loopholes were magazines that were designed for a particular round, say .50 Beowulf or .458 Socom but designed to fit into an AR15. Well those magazines also happened to be able to fit 15ish rounds of 5.56 even though they were pinned to 5 rounds. You can't modify the magazine, but if your gun could accept that magazine, it was perfectly legal to use.

Iirc the Spectre ballistics Lynx had an option for the lower to accept Black Creek Labs Bison 20rd mags. 4x the "legal" limit for centre fire rifles, but perfectly legal to use.

u/looloopklopm 8d ago

I'm using 20rd bison mags in my renegade lol

1

u/BrotherLefthand 8d ago

You could use a 100rnd drum mag in your renegade if it was proprietary. Renegade is a manual action firearm.

YUP.

You think I'm coming online to confess to crimes through reddit comments?

1

u/BrotherLefthand 8d ago

Lol get automodded, chud.

u/BrotherLefthand 8d ago

I think you could be ignorant of the law because it can be confusing. I don't care what you do with your guns.

1

u/looloopklopm 8d ago

Then why the fuck did you respond to me?

You aren't supposed to be eating the bullets.

6

u/KTMan77 sk 9d ago

In Canada you probably wouldn't be jailed just for a magazine offence but yeah point still stands that it's dumb because an aluminum rivet can pin a 30 rnd mag to 5 for it be legal.

a stack like the other commenter has, especially if loaded and out of the house? maybe, who knows these days

Possibly worth noting.

The only clarification on magazine capacities was Bulletin 72 which is now MIA on the rcmp website (happy to scan it if anyone needs it). The pistols that took 223/5.56 are now all prohibited. So, it stands to reason that LAR15 magazines are firmly in the grey area leaning to possibly hassle territory if an rcmp officer is having a bad day. Just my 2c. Not advice. Do what you want.

2

u/BrotherLefthand 8d ago

The restrictions apply to the magazine, not the firearm. It doesn't matter if the firearms are now prohibited. The magazines are not.

1

u/scamcitizen999 8d ago

This is where it gets tricky. Take a look at the bulletin. Found a copy here. https://firearmscanada.com/special-bulletin-businesses-no-72/

You're referring to point #4. I'll explain why I don't think that applies anymore. Take a look at the other sections. Rcmp makes it exceeding clear that rifles shall be limited to 5rd. But you're right on the mag.. So back to point 4.

Lets say you roll into crown land for a range day. Rcmp approaches you. You do not have any pistols accepting 10rd mags (point 4, and you couldn't possibly have one, since they're prohib). But you do have a rifle and are holding a 10rd mag. Now how confident exactly are you? You could refer to the bulletin which no longer exists on the gov't website. Rcmp is likely to invoke similar basic logic as what I'm saying here and at a minimum give you a hard time.

Again. Keep the dream alive. Don't take my advice. Just throwing it out there. I'm not a lawyer. Just a guy who figures the rcmp will always take the least cool route.

Brother, you're overthinking this. Restrictions are on the magazine, not the firearm.

https://rcmp.ca/en/firearms/classes-firearms/maximum-permitted-magazine-capacity#s3

"The maximum permitted capacity of a magazine is determined by the kind of firearm it is designed or manufactured for use in and not the kind of firearm it might actually be used in. This means the maximum permitted capacity remains the same regardless of which firearm it might be used in."

The law is very clear that using a 10 round pistol magazine in a rifle is legal.

1

u/scamcitizen999 8d ago

I am overthinking it. Good find on that page. That does look like the bulletin that has a proper home now.

Regardless. I have nothing to use them with. Sad days.

u/conanap 8d ago

Fundamentally, it’s because laws were made by people who didn’t understand the topic they are legislating on.

u/N1GHTSQU1R3LL 7d ago

Then the charger nuked the high cap magazines for 10/22 cuz a rim fire rifle can have as many rounds as you want but pistols are still limited to 10, so you cant have that banana mag for your rifle if it fits in a pistol.

1

u/BrotherLefthand 7d ago

Except you can modify your rimfire rifle to accept those banana mags. Because that also makes sense somehow.

I have 110rnd drums for my 10/22 that I run with a magazine well adapter. They're an absolute pain in the ass to reload and use, but they're so much fun when it works. 😂

1

u/N1GHTSQU1R3LL 7d ago

Yeah for sure, as long as you can't put it in a pistol, I have a few drums for an alleged GSG 15. They were half price after the rifle got put on the ban list.

1

u/tghost474 8d ago

This was also for those in states with mag cap bans too.

This was from a few months ago.

Another Canadian business driven into the ground by pointless government regulations.

7

u/BrotherLefthand 8d ago

Yep. Our government is a joke.

Not sure you’d want that. That is, have multiple of their newest gen 2s. They literally cracked from no/little use after being exposed to conditions not far off room temperature. They weren’t physically slammed or abused either. Oh and I had four entire sets (x8 cracked mags) replaced.

Their customer service being great about which was probably their saving grace. They mentioned “ketone” based cleaners degraded their stuff but I never used any.

If you want polymer LAR just go with MFT and get a coupler for them. Those can take cold temps and being run hard.

5

u/Blusk-49-123 9d ago

This has been my experience as well. First trip to the range and a small crack near the feed lips from calm and relaxed bench shooting.

This might sound harsh but not worth one's money so I don't really care for them not surviving as a company.

5

u/BrotherLefthand 9d ago

I haven't had issues with mine. They ran great in my AR. I'll try them in a makasi when it arrives.

I use ballistol on all my guns. Doesn't seem to hurt the mags.

1

u/Kid-On-Reddit- 8d ago

My gen 2s cracked straight down in-between the feed lips within 5 range visits.

1

u/BlazeetManeega 8d ago

Same thing happened to me. They blamed it on me using G96 cleaner - which I only used to lightly wipe down the mags. Dog shit quality magazines. PMag or CZ poly mags ftw

4

u/scottsuplol 9d ago

I assume with the current state of firearms and how effective 3D printers are they just didn’t see a viable future . But honestly just speculation

3

u/GodsGiftToWrenching 9d ago

Low key not surprised they went bankrupt. It was a cool concept but I can't say I've ever had luck with cross mags. The interior dimensions are a couple thou over the COAL of LAP ammo so that jams all the time, they also had a brutal time feeding in platforms like the WK 180 gen 1 & 2 (allegedly) the Bren 2 (allegedly) and ruger american ranch (confirmed). Using a mag wedge with 2 LAR 10 rounder steelys was a way more functional rout to go

3

u/Dizzy-Wedding5769 9d ago

Mine worked in a t97 really well

1

u/GodsGiftToWrenching 8d ago

Which generation of T97? They were an interference fit in my buddies gen 1 T97

1

u/Dizzy-Wedding5769 8d ago

3rd

1

u/GodsGiftToWrenching 8d ago

Fair enough, they did alot of reworking by the time the gen 3 T97 came out to be a better fit for STANAG mags. I don't know if it was the recoil impulse or what on the Bren 2 but it was nothing but malfunctions with cross mags, and with the ruger american ranch it's almost always the 7th round that causes issues

2

u/scamcitizen999 8d ago

Worked great in my x95. Pour one out.

2

u/GodsGiftToWrenching 8d ago

Rip brother, they didn't work well at all in the ol Bren 2.

3

u/BrotherLefthand 9d ago

They work great in my AR. It was too bad they government knee capped the industry.

4

u/GodsGiftToWrenching 9d ago

That makes sense, I feel like they were designed around AR platforms mainly, which unfortunately didn't translate well into every other platform I've seen them ran in. It's also a small detail bit why did they include stripper clip spoon guides if the mags cannot be charged with stripper clips.

I've even seen a few gun stores around town close due to the bans and hand gun "freeze" it's absolutely horrible how the government can just pen stroke people into unemployed status because of politics

3

u/Geralt-of-Rivai 9d ago

Bought a bunch, never liked them, had so many failures. 10 round metal LAR15 mags with magwedge adapters became my new thing and held up so much better

1

u/Filthy-Pancakes 8d ago

Buy 10 round steel Duramag magazines instead. I never liked my cross mag, it always seems to jam.

1

u/scamcitizen999 8d ago

If you can find 5rd 458 socom magazines, thats your best option.

1

u/lundske 8d ago

Soooo how was I able to buy these mags like a few weeks ago? Should we expect them to disappear soon cuz i might have to order more then

2

u/BrotherLefthand 8d ago

They're never coming back, unless someone bought the IP.

2

u/lundske 8d ago

Welp... they are in stock at rdsc for 5.56..... time to order some more i guess

1

u/BrotherLefthand 8d ago

People in the comments are claiming that they breakdown and become brittle if you use certain cleaners. I use balistol with mine and never had an issue.

2

u/lundske 8d ago

Yeah i have 2 of them so far... just ordered 2 more to have at least 4 for the range.... im not gonna be doin anything crazy with them. Just fun to shoot 10 rnds and have it be a normal sized magazine

1

u/R4ID on 8d ago

Sad to see them go, I brought them beer at shot show a few years back and got a free hat in return.

1

u/severedjchom 7d ago

RDSC just got a bunch of their cross mags in stock. I got some a week ago.
