Cross Industries LAR15 mags woes and bankruptcy

Just want to give everyone here a word of caution

I recently purchased a set of Crossmags for my rifle. Worked great until both my mags started cracking. Tried sending them an email with no response. Called the number on their website and it has been disconnected

Upon further lookup, turns out they went bankrupt a year ago

Just in case anyone wants to purchase their mags, don't expect to get any kind of help if they break

In the meantime, anyone have suggestions on mags for my CZ600 Trail?

Cross Industries have had issues with there mags and haven’t been able to find a remedy the entire time they were operating. With a bit of hard use the mags start cracking and breaking, and CI been blaming it on CLP and other gun oils. Which is not only a terrible excuse but really embarrassing. They were able to keep things under wraps by freely sending out mags to replace broken ones hassle free. I’ve had mine fully replaced 3 times, no business can operate under those stresses.

Solvents and other oils can be hell on polymers. They should have used a non-transparent glass reinforced polymer. That would have probably required some re-tooling which was maybe too expensive.

Yes I agree solvents and oils, but break free CLP which they blamed for my case is comparatively fairly gentle on polymer. Never had any issues even on clear ets, lancers, and translucent pmags

CLP can still harm plastics. Oils will penetrate into the plastic breaking down some of they polymer chains weaking it. Some polymers are better than others. Some oils are worst than others. I'm going to guess Cross mags used some blend of polycarbonate, which doesn't do great with hydrocarbons.

Interesting, great info. I’m farthest thing away from being an expert on polymer so I really have no idea on blend, just that they were the only mags having that issue. Also with my case and I’m assuming others since no one oil mags or mag well, the oil coming in contact is just through normal operation of the gun. It’s just seamed like a flawed product.

I think they used the wrong polymer when you consider it will be exposed to oils.

That being said, my mags don't get oily. But I've never run my 180 or AR wet.

Magazines are the most difficult part of a gun to design and make.

If you have the .223/5.56 model, the metal 10-round XCR-L pistol magazines should fit.

Metal ones don't seem to work well the CZ trail from what I've experienced.

The ASC ones are so bad out of the box. I had to file down the feed side and bend the feed lips to get them feeding properly.

Asc are better then Duramag imo, feed lips are easily adjustable so I don’t see a problem

It’s true that I did get them working, but the Duramags worked for me out of the box. I mainly use my ASC 10/20 mags now as they feed well after the adjustments.

I have 10/10, 10/20, and 10/30 asc for 5.56, also 10/10 for X39. The spring pressure in duramags seem stronger and harder to load.

I was lucky that I managed to score an AR pistol mag that's based on the 10rd PMAG, idk if it's made by them or it's a clone but it works relaibally.

Those seems to be made to the shortest length possible so that loading with bolt closed is difficult.

CPD LAR15 are steel, 10 rounds and run very well in a 223/556 Renegade. Cheap too.

Lol. LAR15 mags... The most welcome, yet unexplainable loophole in Canadian firearms regulation.

I'm honestly surprised they lasted as long as they did. They made a very niche product for a small market. Not surprised the bans killed them.

Oh that's a shame I was confused why couldn't find their mags at the local shop recently. I like the mags as they worked well in the rifles I've put them through ..

I've had good luck with the MTF (mission first tactical) ...and they haven't broken on me yet but I don't run them hard at all

I use Duramag LAR15 mags for my Ruger American. Never had an issue.

Unless you're dead set on a polymer mag, the ~30 steel Duramag LAR15 magazines I use have all been great.

I literally used them for the first time, gently used, no cool-guy-tacticool drills at all. Just insert in and out for bench shooting. And then I noticed a small crack form near the top.

Complete waste of money to be honest.

My vote is to try and track down mission first tactical mags they run well for me.
