There's been many high profile incidents with the SKS the last 5 years or so. Doesn't nullify the fact it's logistically impossible to ban the SKS.

they dont give a damn about logistics. if they did, the first bans wouldve actually done something. its about preventing future ownership to law abiding citizens

Logistics also includes legal frameworks. Examples include indigenous rights guaranteed by the Constitution and that suppressing the most popular hunting tool among indigenous people, could be seen as a violation of their treaty/hunting rights.

I feel like they wouldn't want another court case even if they end up winning the current CCFR Supreme Court Case. It casts them in a rather bad light.

It is not logistically impossible to ban any firearms in Canada.

And? As soon as they ban the firearm it can no longer be legally sold or transferred. That means no new models legally come into the market, and no one who currently owns one can transfer it to anyone else, take it to a range, or take it out hunting. It's dead in the water and over time they leave circulation as owners die off and are unable to legally pass them on, they're found in raids in illegal ownership, etc. Their kids don't have a PAL, aren't comfortable taking them, or if they do take them they get found.

People seem to not understand that these measures are not short term, they are permanent and long term methods of weeding out firearms from the population over decades. The idea that the government cares that they won't immediately get your gun is asinine. They know that over time, civilian population firearms ownership will be reduced and chopped down to fudds only and whatever other things like central storage they want to implement.

My guess is as good as someone else's but I wouldn't be surprised if they try to restrict all semi-automatic rifles above .22 LR at some point. Even if it's a very long term job.
