I still don't think the Liberals will issue additional OICs given the current supreme court stuff.

Not to mention they can't really touch the SKS because it's used heavily by the first Nations.

Not that is any guarantee and don't get me wrong, it's a tragic event but we need more details

Wont ban it just make it restricted and give natives the special ATC tied to having a status card. The rest of us can go eat shit. Or make it a new 12.x class and give the same atc for "traditional hunting" or some other nonsense.n

I'm just highlighting the irony of first nations holding them back from extending their agenda to what for once is an actual "weapon of war" while they skip around it and have no shame in banning ridiculous stuff like bolt action rifles.

Do I think the SKS should be banned? Not really. But if there's a gun their fearmongering should apply to, it's pretty much at the top of the list lol.

This is probably what the government wants but carve outs have to be made via legislation not OiCs and after the clusterfuck that was C-21 which they are still dealing with the fallout today they are going to try and tiptoe around the SKS all together.

It is already legal for an entity to make a request to Human Rights Commissions for exemptions. This is how diversity training programs and the like are allowed to exist. So an indigenous SKS exemption is a possibility.

They don't need an OIC. They have a majority now. They can legislate a ban essentially without resistance.

Yes that's true but I actually think if they did that it would hurt their case.

Let's assume they use the same justification as before (weapons of war that are too dangerous). It would only blow a hole in their OIC usages now that they have to actually run it through the house as a bill.

To be clear. That could very well happen post SCC ruling anyways but only time will tell.

I really think they will ban some more shit. What are the odds that the one gun that they are trying to ban the most since for ever is used in a mass shooting resulting in the death of a police officer. This situation just gave them the perfect cover to continue their bullshit

Poly has circulated a memo about the SKS during the last OIC ban, and framed it as an "indigenous problem" they needed a "final solution" for, as far as my memory serves me. I can't find a copy of it right now.

We have blatant legal disparities between natives and everyone else int he country, they can easily just exempt native status owners.

They have a majority and 3 years to play with it. I've been blackpilled since somewhere along Trudeau's bans. Moved to the US years ago.

Just got my green card approved too! Makes all this news flow over me like water. Sorry for the gun owners stuck in the LPC's Canada.

I think the government certainly cares about the bad PR.

There's a reason they have carve out name exemptions for certain rifles to be used by FNs. Whether they care or not (I lean towards the government not giving a damn), they still gotta create the optics.

The Liberals thrive on maintaining their good guy image. Trudeau and his party literally rushed out another OIC so they could get invited to a Montreal photo op with Poly.

The optics of the government stripping away the ability to hunt and subsist from FNs would be crushing because the government thrives off those feel good plays.
