Application / Regulation advice Status of Buyback
Anyone know what the current status of the buyback is? While I oppose it in principle, I bought a Springfield M1A for pure novelty and jumped at the chance to get virtually all of my money back for it. I went through the application process and now, crickets...

Sounds a lot like the part in scam where you’ve already given the scammer what they want, doesn’t it?

u/DougMacRay617 May 18 '26
Your not getting anything for it

Should've not just opposed it in principle, but in action. You sold yourself out to an absolute circus of a program, for merely a chance at your 30 pieces of silver, not even a guarantee.
Would've been smarter to go gambling and hope you win the cost of the gun, instead of attempting to participate. Better odds of getting paid.

Meh, it's only upside for me. The rifle is wildly impractical for my purposes and it's now illegal to use regardless. I paid about $2,500 for it and the schedule says they will pay $2,350. If I end up getting the money, I basically get completely reimbursed for a dumb purchase. If I don't I'm no worse off and I wasn't going to use it anyway. Either way I'm not going to get caught up in the toxic nonsense displayed by so many people here.

You are not getting the money.
They do not have the money. After paying businesses and restricted owners out, there will be nothing left, if they even pay them out. A guy on the east coast was quoted one number for AR-15 lowers, confirmed the amount in writing, and got 10% of the value they quoted. And he was an early participant when the coffers were fresh, and one of the few confirmed ones they actually paid out.
That's why we're all pissed.
It's not "toxic nonsense", it's us being mad because we're law abiding gun owners, many of us for years or decades, who have criminal background checks done on us daily, and the government has decided to just take thousands of dollars worth of our property without compensation, and without good, fact-based reasons.
If it was anyone other than the government, we would call that behavior theft.

u/Dependent_Account603 May 20 '26
2350$ in 2026 dollars is 30% less than in 2019 dollars. You're getting screwed.
Also if there's any blemishes on it, they'll take away from the value, as they did in the Nova Scotia pilot program.
Plus no money for customizations, magazines, ammo, scope rails etc.

u/Agile-Delay-8770 May 20 '26
What toxic nonsense? Resisting the many tyrannical policies of the government?
-2
u/Uhuru2019 May 21 '26
Ah, yes of course... The "tyranny" of taking away your right to play GI Joe on weekends with your AR.
3
u/mypyro May 21 '26
The tyranny of being made a criminal overnight for following the laws. Then being lied to for years about compensation just to get nothing.
Take poly's fist out of your ass and maybe you can think straight.

I'm not happy about it but at the end of the day I can either stew in my own juices with you and this crowd or I can get reimbursed for a purchase I didn't really need.

You will likely get an email in the next week to confirm an appointment and sign a funding agreement. Depends on how early you were in the process. I received mine two weeks ago, others I know received theirs last week. My appointment is in about two weeks at my local detachment.
Ignore all the salty responses, 99% of them are from people that dont even have any prohibs to begin with. If I listened to the crowd here I wouldn't be buying a Carmel guilt free and would be stuck with $22,000 in prohibs I cant use.
2
u/RDasher3333 May 20 '26
The funding agreement does not guarantee compensation. They will collect your firearms and only once the firearm is collected, they will decide if you will be compensated. If the SCC rules in our favour, there’s absolutely no way you get compensated. You are rolling the dice twice essentially
2
u/iTzDusty May 20 '26
You have anything to back up your claims? The pilot in Nova Scotia was laughable but everyone did get paid. Sorry you still don't understand that the guy who got paid $500 for his AR that everyone keeps bringing up was purely because his AR was registered as receiver only, so they only paid him for the lower receiver. This was made explicitly clear during my submission as one of my ARs is registered as frame only and thus I was only entitled to $500 as opposed to $1600 for the full firearm.
You guys can dream all you want that anyone who participated in the buyback is going to get zero dollars. I'll take my money and buy a Carmel.

u/RDasher3333 May 20 '26
I actually researched it prior to my comment. You cannot participate in the collection without completing the funding agreement. However, collection does not guarantee compensation. After the collection, the firearms will be sent out to be validated and payments may be sent out 45 days after validation. I don’t believe they have disclosed anything about the validation process and the time it will take. Also, since most police organizations refused to pay for the collection out of their own budget, the extra money that the feds will have to spend to collect the guns and do the validation will most likely be taken out of the compensation fund. As for the SCC decision, there is 0 chance they will pay people for now legal firearms.

u/iTzDusty May 20 '26
Great. I'll be sure to let you know once I get paid how wrong all of you were. Nobody who has a signed funding agreement and submits their firearm will be short changed. Everyone that keeps commenting on this hasn't participated in the program. I know exactly how the process works, they are verifying the firearms offsite because the collection teams are civilians from public safety that don't know jack about firearms. Police at the detachments are getting paid OT to provide security for the collection teams. No one is going to be getting stiffed.
The SCC case is irrelevant, uphill battle against a stacked SCC. If the CCFR wins, great, I have some former non-restricteds that I didn't submit and get to use again. If they don't, I still have them. Formr Restricteds don't have that luxury.
It's incredibly easy for you and rest of the redditors that have had their PALs for a few years to yell from the sidelines when you have negligible skin in the game.

u/WSBBroker May 29 '26
When did you submit ? Early or late
2
u/iTzDusty May 30 '26
Pretty early, I think within a few hours of it being announced.
If you havent received a box yet, check the portal and there should be a tracking number. My wife had her address listed wrong
2
u/WSBBroker May 30 '26
We will see what happens. I’m in SK

u/iTzDusty Jun 02 '26
Just to update you, did my dropoff today, took like 10 minutes, was painless. Within an hour my portal account was updated showing all of them were verified and payment will be issued.

u/WSBBroker Jun 03 '26
Thank you for the update . Sask implementing the whole exemption until you get fair compensation thing almost implies that they will participate in the program if the owner is comfortable with the money being offered by the gov. So maybe I don’t need to be concerned . The $ offered for most of mine were almost what I paid . So kind of dumb not to try

u/elemsova Jun 22 '26
Same in BC. Did my dropoff, took about 10min. Didn't even have to get out of the car lol.

u/chaugh1 14d ago
Did you include magazines? If there’s no extra payment for magazines I’m not including any
1
u/iTzDusty 14d ago
Nope. I stripped everything that wasn't functional, so all qd mounts, irons, anything that isn't a core functional component. The gun needs to be "fully assembled" so things like triggers and bolts should be included. I swapped any part of value, like geissele triggers, out with the cheapest mil-spec stuff i had, same thing with pistol grips and such.

Thanks bro. Appreciate the reply. I’m dropping off on July 31, located in GTA.
I’m getting $600 for a gsg15 I paid $450 for lol

u/iTzDusty 14d ago
No problem at all, hang on to that cash and invest it so that when better days come we can buy all the cool shit again lol. Took me about 2 weeks to get my direct deposit

u/Uhuru2019 May 19 '26
Thanks so much. Nice to know there’s somebody normal out there.
1
u/iTzDusty May 19 '26
No problem, I took a lot of flak when I expressed this a few months ago so I get it.
I also just received my boxes for submission, once you've made your appointment theyll send you a box by canada post for each gun, you box your gun up prior to your drop off appointment.
Just in case you missed an email you should check the compensation website to see if you received any messages.

u/Uhuru2019 May 20 '26

Did you just necromancer a month old comment to support someone who is actively helping the government take away everyone's stuff?
Absolute nonsense take and crying about up votes is the cherry on top.
If you want to cheer on someone supporting the governments crabs in a bucket system, you do you but it's 100 percent throwing everyone else under the bus for a quick buck.

You’re missing the point. I disagree our guns should be taken but I also disagree that you can tell someone what they should do
My guy, you are in a topic where someone came in searching for their own justification to get some quick cash at the cost of their dignity.
You don’t know this person, you know nothing about them and you are telling them they are wrong for making their own decisions.
And yet you're out here carrying water for their poor decisions.
You say your rights are being taken away yet you come here and criticize someone who has the right to surrender their weapons.
I can't believe you're genuinely on this train of thought. You do realize that by him surrending his firearms for a quick dollar he is actually eroding those freedoms away.
What you are is radical.
And you're just completely out to lunch posting in a month old topic.
Is this your alt account? 1 month, hidden comments trying to justify ops disengenious comments.
Enjoy the block.

What makes you think you are the arbiter of what is "dignified?" You're living in your own world...

The status is the liberals still haven't announced how they realistically plan to collect the guns. Every idea they have floated so far has been half baked nonsense. The liberals have a fixed budget for this program and have already burnt up most of it without collecting a single gun from a private individual. At this point in the game it's looking like you will either be sitting on your gun for quite some time through amnesty extensions or end up surrendering it without compensation.
