Application / Regulation advice Status of Buyback

Anyone know what the current status of the buyback is? While I oppose it in principle, I bought a Springfield M1A for pure novelty and jumped at the chance to get virtually all of my money back for it. I went through the application process and now, crickets...

You will likely get an email in the next week to confirm an appointment and sign a funding agreement. Depends on how early you were in the process. I received mine two weeks ago, others I know received theirs last week. My appointment is in about two weeks at my local detachment.

Ignore all the salty responses, 99% of them are from people that dont even have any prohibs to begin with. If I listened to the crowd here I wouldn't be buying a Carmel guilt free and would be stuck with $22,000 in prohibs I cant use.

The funding agreement does not guarantee compensation. They will collect your firearms and only once the firearm is collected, they will decide if you will be compensated. If the SCC rules in our favour, there’s absolutely no way you get compensated. You are rolling the dice twice essentially

You have anything to back up your claims? The pilot in Nova Scotia was laughable but everyone did get paid. Sorry you still don't understand that the guy who got paid $500 for his AR that everyone keeps bringing up was purely because his AR was registered as receiver only, so they only paid him for the lower receiver. This was made explicitly clear during my submission as one of my ARs is registered as frame only and thus I was only entitled to $500 as opposed to $1600 for the full firearm.

You guys can dream all you want that anyone who participated in the buyback is going to get zero dollars. I'll take my money and buy a Carmel.

I actually researched it prior to my comment. You cannot participate in the collection without completing the funding agreement. However, collection does not guarantee compensation. After the collection, the firearms will be sent out to be validated and payments may be sent out 45 days after validation. I don’t believe they have disclosed anything about the validation process and the time it will take. Also, since most police organizations refused to pay for the collection out of their own budget, the extra money that the feds will have to spend to collect the guns and do the validation will most likely be taken out of the compensation fund. As for the SCC decision, there is 0 chance they will pay people for now legal firearms.

Great. I'll be sure to let you know once I get paid how wrong all of you were. Nobody who has a signed funding agreement and submits their firearm will be short changed. Everyone that keeps commenting on this hasn't participated in the program. I know exactly how the process works, they are verifying the firearms offsite because the collection teams are civilians from public safety that don't know jack about firearms. Police at the detachments are getting paid OT to provide security for the collection teams. No one is going to be getting stiffed.

The SCC case is irrelevant, uphill battle against a stacked SCC. If the CCFR wins, great, I have some former non-restricteds that I didn't submit and get to use again. If they don't, I still have them. Formr Restricteds don't have that luxury.

It's incredibly easy for you and rest of the redditors that have had their PALs for a few years to yell from the sidelines when you have negligible skin in the game.

Pretty early, I think within a few hours of it being announced.

If you havent received a box yet, check the portal and there should be a tracking number. My wife had her address listed wrong

Just to update you, did my dropoff today, took like 10 minutes, was painless. Within an hour my portal account was updated showing all of them were verified and payment will be issued.

Thank you for the update . Sask implementing the whole exemption until you get fair compensation thing almost implies that they will participate in the program if the owner is comfortable with the money being offered by the gov. So maybe I don’t need to be concerned . The $ offered for most of mine were almost what I paid . So kind of dumb not to try

Nope. I stripped everything that wasn't functional, so all qd mounts, irons, anything that isn't a core functional component. The gun needs to be "fully assembled" so things like triggers and bolts should be included. I swapped any part of value, like geissele triggers, out with the cheapest mil-spec stuff i had, same thing with pistol grips and such.

No problem at all, hang on to that cash and invest it so that when better days come we can buy all the cool shit again lol. Took me about 2 weeks to get my direct deposit

No problem, I took a lot of flak when I expressed this a few months ago so I get it.

I also just received my boxes for submission, once you've made your appointment theyll send you a box by canada post for each gun, you box your gun up prior to your drop off appointment.

Just in case you missed an email you should check the compensation website to see if you received any messages.

I think early May, they didnt process anytbing until the end of April. If you arent in BC then its hard to say, I don't think anything has moved forward in alberta for example
