Gun and gear reviews Canadian manufacturer's.

This post is intended for an educational purpose especially to all those who think buying canadian or semi automatic, or even a tactical mixup would be great.

Oh boy, where to start this regretful dread of a post. Secondly, im just a young male who likes target shooting, not a hunting guy.

Bought a Crux 308 from crusader arms back in q4 2023 after it debut in the summer that year (i believe). Fired less than 60 shots at the time and had to send it in for ejector failure around Q2 2024, got it back around 8 weeks later (warped barrel, ejector swapped, and some other stuff, just the 2 that stood out to me especially after 60 rounds).

After I got it back I maybe fired 100 rounds though the gun but i had to take a year off shooting to focus on some other personal matters.

Anyways fast forward to yesterday, around 12 -15 months since I last shot it, I didnt even break 50 rounds till the ejector failed again and was stuck shut with a dead round as well.

I baby the absolute hell out of this rifle pre/post shooting so having it happen around 250 (at most) since the first is remarkable bad craftsmanship. And to top it off i immediately searched it up and see it's this guns biggest flaw.

With the pictures above would someone be able to help identify that part name and how to go forward about this. I'd like to avoid getting this rifle converted to a trophy on the wall. I have once again started an email with crusader but with how the time frame looks im not optimistic. Im also going to a gunsmith on Tuesday hoping something can be done too.

But for a closing statement to all the new PAL users, please avoid canadian made. I adore my rifle but If I could I'd go back and not buy this.

This gun is banned via OIC as a heads up if you do plan on trying to take it to any gunsmith they will probably not touch it.

But if it wasn't....

You can just swap it out with a AR10 BCG Extractor, but you will end up with the same result eventually. The problem is the chamber itself, as I'm sure your brass is probably getting lodged due to the poor tolerances in the chamber. I would go about getting the chamber honed by a professional gunsmith.

If he's just bringing in parts he has nothing to worry about.

They aint "manufacturing" shit in Canada. They might be a Canadian based brand, but all that cheap crap is from Turkey or somewhere who will do it even cheaper.

u/BuyRelevant1000 May 10 '26

Don't be throwing that disrespect on my Turkish gun, it's 100% more reliable than anything from Crusader Arms (or whatever they rebrand as next).

u/SJHardware May 15 '26

Umm well they get 90l$ of there parts from China a turkey so...

Just straight F**king Garbage

Save your money for the Makasi

Its going to be the hottest gun of the year

And yet people are still tripping over themselves to buy this stuff.

Some people will never learn.

The rifle is prohibited as a variant not by name. Id suggest not admitting to still using it online.

u/Greenxgrotto May 10 '26

👀👀👀👀

u/Flashy_Inspector115 May 11 '26

I called the rcmp and they claimed it is indeed prohibited. Im waiting for written documented proof from the rcmp to share here.

6

u/DireNight114 May 11 '26

Ya it is, its just vaguely worded like the rest of all their crap. "Or any variant thereof" is the mantra.

I wouldn't buy this rifle purely based on the design of the bolt; There is almost no metal supporting the lugs. There is a reason you don't bore out an AR15 bolt to accept 7.62 cases.... the lifespan of this design is awful.

6

u/FedInformant May 10 '26

You couldn't buy the rifle if you wanted to.

8

u/EinGuy Because Canada May 10 '26

Sure, doesn't make it not a poor design though.

That’s just abject nonsense.   There are good manufacturers and some not so good manufacturers, good products and bad products

Just like there is any country

u/AdeptArt May 10 '26

I agree with you but we just lost one of the last good manufacturers (RIP ATRS). A lot of the remaining canadian made stuff is unfortunately junk so I don’t even blame people for having this opinion.

13

u/Spydude84 May 10 '26

MDT is internationally recognized for being excellent.

12

u/AdeptArt May 10 '26

true, so is cadex.

Maybe we should limit don’t buy canadian to canada semi’s, lol.

19

u/Spydude84 May 10 '26

Limit it to don't buy garbage.

u/gspotcowboy May 11 '26

Yes! SBI makes awesome kit

2

u/BigGuy204 May 11 '26

My brother has a PGW Timberwolf and that thing is pretty bitchin as well.

2

u/nax_91 May 11 '26

Not all Canadian made stuff is bad, in fact here are some great manufacturers here in Canada that make some excellent products, as long as you’re willing to pay. KS Arms, SBI, CADEX, PGW, MDT and I am sure some other ones that I might have left out. SBI and MDT are also more accessible price wise to the average people. I don’t think it would be fair to put all Canadian manufacturers under the same blanket as bad quality.

What ammo you using and probably Canadian design

u/FortyMaximus May 11 '26

Shitty steal my friends. They know we are desperate

8

u/Datlimetho Cz Fan Boy May 10 '26

Did you just admit to committing a crime ?

14

u/Spyrothedragon9972 May 10 '26

Flair checks out

8

u/Zeoth May 10 '26

What’s the crime

7

u/Foreign_Active_7991 May 10 '26

The rifle's a prohib, it's illegal to use it.

1

u/AdeptArt May 10 '26

Crusader releases a lot of their stuff without an FRT (since firearms made in canada don’t require an FRT IIRC if they are otherwise compliant with the law). Do you have an FRT #?

7

u/Elbro_16 May 10 '26

It’s a variant of a ar180

-3

u/AdeptArt May 10 '26

3

u/Elbro_16 May 10 '26

So why not submit it for frt if it’s not a ar180 variant? Pretty sure it was advertised as such

2

u/AdeptArt May 10 '26

You don’t have to submit firearms for FRT if they were manufactured in canada. You can just sell them without one if it’s otherwise legal. Why go through the trouble?

Now I’m not saying the templar is legal but on the flip side you’re just saying it’s illegal based on your own opinion. The determination of whether something is a variant or not is not up to randos on reddit. Otherwise would you say the Makasi is a variant? It’s not up to you or me to make the call.

2

u/Elbro_16 May 10 '26

I’m saying it was marketed as a ar180b, ar180b and variants are OIC’d. just because the rcmp didn’t officially classify it leaves it In a grey area. I’m pretty sure people have asked crusader about it and they’ve said themselves it’s a ar180

3

u/AdeptArt May 10 '26 edited May 10 '26

Right, but Crusader also said the crypto was "not an AR", and that got them nowhere. So its clear that what the manufacturer states is not the only thing taken into consideration when determining whether or not something is a variant, right?

edit: Look my point is just that this whole system makes little sense and neither does the classification of variants. So we can’t know for sure. I’m not advocating for someone taking their templar and crux out to the range without contacting a lawyer or the CFO for themselves to verify.

u/GodsGiftToWrenching May 11 '26

The Cringesader Templar is a short stroke piston rotating bolt design derives from the AR 180 platform. Like the WK series and the BCL it was banned as a variant of the 180. While cringesader advertised it at it's own thing like they did the crypto that is probabky partly what hot it banned. The sterling R9 was advertised as an alternate to their sterling .223 rifle (cant remember the name but it was also banned by extension as it was a variant of the ar 180) so since it was advertised as an alternate option to a banned rifle it also got banned... we have the most arbitrary pick and choose gun laws and I abhor it

I’m not a lawyer and I’m not qualified to provide legal advice but if you had a crypto or sterling r9 and used it before they got a prohibited FRT I don’t think you did anything wrong (since people bought it in good faith and used it in good faith)

Now this is just my opinion (which is basically worthless), do not take it as legal advice because it isn’t. I’m just an internet rando.

I wouldn’t take the crypto out cuz it has a prohibited FRT now. The templar I honestly think is a grey area. I can see why it might be trouble, but I genuinely don’t think it’s that black and white. Otherwise the Makasi would be prohibited since it’s a variant of the FAL. Still I agree that taking it out is 100% at your own risk.

Wtf crime did I commit lmao

5

u/Foreign_Active_7991 May 10 '26

Transporting and operating a prohibited weapon...

3

u/megaeverything May 10 '26

That is an extractor on the bolt, not sure what bolt those use, but it looks like possibly an ar10 bolt/extractor. They are known for this and honestly, its a garbage gun that breaks VERY often AND its currently banned, so id just go buy another rifle that is more reliable and not banned. I dont even think a gunsmith will touch it, because its currently prohib, so you have no legal way to get it to the gunsmith, and they wont want the headache of touching a prohib.

-8

u/Maximum-Turnip-5042 May 10 '26

Its not restricted though

13

u/megaeverything May 10 '26

It was re-classified prohibited under the OIC's that have gone though government since you bought the gun. The gun cannot be used or leave your house currently, big fine if caught. You should probably look up the multiple OIC's and status of your other guns since basically every semi auto is banned at this point. There is a list of all banned guns from the government you can find to make sure yours are legal.

u/alexorange178 May 12 '26

The Canadian made savage rifles are actually pretty solid guns for the price!

1

u/Even-Somewhere-9554 May 11 '26

My renegade is Canadian made and it is good

Crusader Arms is just a bad company making bad products

-10

u/No-Night-48 May 10 '26

One day old account. Probably some opposition country like an American spreading "propaganda" not to buy Canadian. Kinda like how the Americans and Russia were busted pushing for Alberta to separate.

9

u/FedInformant May 10 '26

What are you talking about..the rifle is prohibited. You cant go out and buy the rifle regardless. He probably made an account specifically to talk about his experience, and he hasn't realized that the rifle was banned and he cant use it.

2

u/Remarkable_Vanilla34 May 10 '26

Or he has been using it amd doesn't care, and or made a nre account to create anonymity

1

u/Dootbooter May 10 '26

That's pretty hilarious coming from a guy that frequents r/liberalgunowners. The RCMP already came out and said there was no foreign influence. Keep drinking that koolaid and getting cucked by the government.

u/IPSC_Canuck May 11 '26

Is that a MIM injector on a 308?!?

0

u/CheesecakeEasy8952 May 11 '26

Well it’s a little lighter.

0

u/FortyMaximus May 11 '26

308 is known for fowling so if clean that thing the second I used it or at least lube it up
