What does the process look like when I order a restricted from an online store? I know the transfer itself takes months. Do I just make the payment and wait? What about the ATT, file it right away?

The store initiates the transfer, then you just wait. I waited about a month and then called my province’s CFO (BC) and they approved it over the phone. They emailed me and the store a copy of the transfer. I then contacted the store, sent them my copy of the transfer, and they mailed the gun out to me. Before you can take it to the range you have to wait for the registration paperwork to come in the mail, and then you are good to go.

If this is your first restricted you will also receive a new license card that will have the transport conditions attached to it. You do not need an ATT to take it to the range.

Thank you. This registration paper work in the mail will be from CFO? This new license card with transport conditions attached, do I have to fill and submit to get that?

I can’t recall if the paperwork was from the CFO or CFP, but it took about 3 weeks for it to arrive in the mail.

No you won’t have to do anything for the card. It is issued automatically.

Purchase and wait, online store will typically put your transfer in via the web portal so it's the best way to get something currently. You'll then get an approval email and then typically a couple weeks later you'll get the reg paper that you need to put with your restricted.

If you're looking at getting a pistol I would be ordering it right now, literally. The transfer ban seems like it's coming this week.

Last week we were told by official appearing sources that it could go into effect at any time, but they were working on finalizing procedures, so it would likely not go into force before this week.

I'm not sure I fully understand what all is going on. It would be great if someone who is more knowledgeable could explain what is going on.

You might also ask the store for the Transfer Ref number. A/ so you confirm it’s been initiated, and B/ so if you call the CFO later to try to push it through you have a number to give them.

I got my license a couple of weeks ago and immediately purchased two handguns from two different stores. One sent an email with the ref number the next day, the other I had to call to get it, but they were totally cool about it.
