Quick question for you guys I’m a new license holder I just ordered my fist handgun the email I got gave me a reference number and that I don’t need to do anything but I feel like I need to do stuff on my end thanks for the information an help

I also got got to mention befor I’m in Alberta I am also a member of a rang.

Nothing to do but wait, I ordered my first restricted on July 1st, received reference number from store and have been waiting since

Depending on which province you live in, it is mandatory to be a member of a shooting range. I believe its Ontario and Alberta that seem to be less stringent on the membership requirements. Looking into a shooting range either way would be a good idea if you plan to use your restricted firearm.

You also mentioned that you received a reference number? Make sure you received the transfer number (starts with 59xxxxx) and not just the reference number for the actual purchase.

If you have those 2 points covered it becomes a waiting game.

No it's only mandatory to have a valid purpose. How the applicant proves that to the CFO can vary.

Range membership is the easiest proof for target shooting but alternative proofs exists such as participation in shooting competitions. See R v. Gould 2014 NB
