Guys, I'm absolutely shocked

The @BlocQuebecois have been, up until now, mostly supportive of @marcomendicino's Bill C-21...Until today.

There may be hope... I don't know what to do

Hopefully the NDP realizes that they don’t have to be the Liberals’ running mates too and we can get this shit to not be passed.

It's going to pass, but if the other parties are actually starting to come around on it, we might at least get some good amendments out of it that'll make it easier to ride things out until we can eventually repeal.

I think the best we can hope for (realistically) is for them to do exactly what happened with the 12(6) handgund until the next CPC majority comes along to fix their mess

He actually said they shouldn't target legal owners and aren't doing enough for the illegal/smuggling side. He even quoted the Montreal police chief in saying it will do nothing.

I think it's possible they've been getting a lot shit from businesses, ranges, and owners. Remember that the Bloc controls almost all of rural and suburban Quebec outside of Montreal.

I can't see the LPC backing down, but I think its possible that transfers will be allowed like the 90s handgun ban. I can live with that until a CPC government comes in and rewrites all the bullshit.

Owners were able to continue buying and selling from businesses and amongst themselves.

A change like this would be one of these 3 things

  • Change all handguns to prohibited and issue specific prohibited licences for current owners (No new guns or handgun owners)
  • Allow transfers between current RPAL holders but block any new RPAL licences (no new guns or handgun owners)
  • Allow transfers and new RPAL holders (no new guns but allow new owners)

I suspect with their urban ridings in MTL CMA being picked away by LPC/NDP/CPC that we're seeing a reverse NDP happening - alongside with Quebec Federalist-Separatist ideology only working for the CAQ means their base is becoming more and more rural (& less urban) and whatnot who finally see autonomous policy via the CAQ a goal met so are pushing the BQ to move more for support.

I'm still shocked.

I'm just worried about the regulation change presented to committee. If there is a possibility of changes to the bill the LPC will want to push the freeze through this way ASAP. I hope the CPC, Bloc, and NDP can come together to block that regulation.

Honestly I'm not sure. Reading the section of the firearms act it appears they can not. However, the committee can change the wording of the regulation and if its not what the LPC wants they may not sign it

Edit: u/Varsil can the committee vote to not adopt the regulation?

We don't want to know what the federal government is doing to ban legal weapons, we want to know what they're doing to act against illegal guns.

Part of me worries that this is just the one member and the leadership of the Bloc is still against us. Maybe there's a chance the Bloc makes this an open vote.

The Bloc will gladly support this bill. They are more liberal then the liberals but with a sole focus on Quebec sovereignty.

If it gets voted in favour, all it would take is the GIC to use the OIC. It can be instant or it could take a day.

We just gotta hope the CPC filibusters or they decide to actually debate the regulations.
