Eh, not really. We're simply being punished for crimes that unlicensed criminals in Canada commit.

With just a few weeks left in the House of Commons' spring sitting before MPs take a summer hiatus from debating and passing legislation, and other priority bills already moving through Parliament, should a new gun-control bill be presented in as Trudeau has said "the coming weeks," it's unlikely it would pass before the fall. Between factoring in the time opposition parties would want to study any proposed new legislation, and the time that may be needed to implement any regulations stemming from potential new laws, it could be some time before further updates to Canada's firearm laws are in effect.

Read this in a CTV article so it might end up just being a “hey look at us doing something, vote for us next time”

C-71 took 18 months to pass. I can't see this bill taking any longer than 24 months to pass and it think an 18 month timeline is more realistic. The fastest I could see it pass is 15 months. So by that metric it should pass anywhere between September 2023 - June 2024.

The name is a pretty gigantic hint as to what it may include

C-20: An Act establishing the Public Complaints and Review Commission and amending certain Acts and statutory instruments

This is not just going to be their campaign promises, it will include the recommendations from the public safety committee "study".

Edit: Actually there are 2 names

  • An Act to amend certain Acts and to make certain consequential amendments (firearms)
  • An Act establishing the Public Complaints and Review Commission and amending certain Acts and statutory instruments

The first one is the bill name and they refer to the other one as the "measure". I also think I am wrong in my initial reading and the reply to my comment is correct. I have no idea what the Public Complaints and Review Commission is though.

Look at the name

  • C-20: The code of the bill
  • An Act: This document
  • establishing the Public Complaints and Review Commission: Directly referencing the public safety committee "study" and importantly "establishing" those recommendations.
  • and amending certain Acts: The changes made exist acts
  • and statutory instruments: Implementation of the OIC confiscation program

I read that as they're going to be creating something called the Public Complaints and Review Commission. I don't get anything about SECU out of it.

The reason my mind doesn't go there is that I have not heard any LPC member propose a complaints and review commission in relation to firearms or firearms owners. I thought maybe I forgot one of the recommendations but the closest thing to a commission in the study is a gangs and gun summit.
