so what are the thoughts on the Uvalde school shooting?

Disasters like this are central to discussions of gun control.

I know most of the takes are going to be garbage, interested to see if there will be anything new and reasonable in the replies.

Canada just had one of the worst mass shootings in North American history. Canada has had numerous mass shootings but misleading to compare with US. We are 1 10th the population. One mass shooting every 10 years is the same as one per year in the US. We've had several in Canada just in last 5 years (e.g., mosque shooting)
