so what are the thoughts on the Uvalde school shooting?

Disasters like this are central to discussions of gun control.

I know most of the takes are going to be garbage, interested to see if there will be anything new and reasonable in the replies.

this isn't a bad assessment of the current situation in Canada.

The garbage takes I regularly see here in the weekly politics thread and other posts are the objections to the existing gun control system. Like the OIC, magazine restrictions, prohib listings.

The majority of participants in the politics thread advocate removing the controls because it's inconvenient for legal shooters. Or outright calls for carry permits and shooting ppl for property defense.

Did you know our current gun laws were written by Poly and the anti gun lobby? What does that say about our current gun laws? It means they are inherently biased against legal gun ownership in Canada. If you support our current gun laws then you agree with Poly on gun control in Canada.

yes, I do agree that gun control laws should and do help prevent incidents like Poly, and that incident influenced Canadian gun control. I'm OK with it. I am still able to do what I want in terms of gun ownership & use.

You are in the wrong sub. Maybe try the liberal gun owners Reddit sub. With that “ok with it” attitude you won’t be able to do what you want with your guns for much longer. The anti gun groups already think you are a baby killer, you agreeing with their policies will only ensure your bolt action rifles and shotguns will also be banned. Poly souvient thinks all gun owners are evil people who want to massacre schools full of children. That is the basis of Canadian gun laws currently. I am not okay with that because I have no intention of criminal acts yet the law assumes we are potential criminals.

this is /r/CanadaGuns, not /r/CanadaPPCConspiracyGuns. It's the politics thread. It's not much good just reinforcing your own opinions unchallenged. It's how gun owners become disconnected from political realities and come across as nutcases.

So you're one of those "fuck the other guys" kind of Fudds? You do realize that after they are done coming for the 'scary black rifles' they will be coming for your 'long range sniper rifle,' 'trench clearing shotgun,' 'unlimited capacity .22 bullet hose' and whatever other Fudd tech you think won't be touched by gun grabbers 😂 time to wake up bud. Quislings eventually outlive their usefulness.

The OIC, magazine restrictions, and prohibited listings, do nothing to affect crime.

You should be able to apply for an ATC to protect yourself, and get one.

You can hold all these views and still think this event is tragic.

well here's a garbage take. Gun control does nothing to prevent gun crime? That's poorly reasoned. Of course it doesn't prevent all gun-involved crime. There would be MORE gun-involved crime with LESS gun controls like prohibs and magazine restrictions.

Yeah you know what, the only thing stopping me from going on a spree is the fact my mags are pinned and that my handgun barrel is too long. Someone should hand out ten round magazines to gangs so they will resist the urge to shoot each other.

I've only had my RPAL for 3 years so I can't speak for anything that happened before but I can't help but feel that firearm advocacy groups never bothered to engage the public until recently in the past year or so. They've been mostly preaching to the choir.

The only major thing I've heard that they arranged was the Range Day in June but barely any ranges are posting about it in my area. To make matters worse, many ranges have year long waitlists and have policies that discourage you from bringing in guests (at least in Ontario).

Poly is at worst guilty of the same onesidedness regularly found here in the politics thread. They have a far stronger moral underpinning, since their objective is to stop mass killing, vs. gun-decontrol objectives of convenience, sport, or profit. I don't want Poly's vision of gun control, but I don't want the vision of someone who can't see beyond their own inconvenience not being able to buy giant mags. 😂

“giant mags” jesus christ 🤦🏻‍♂️ 30rd mags are standard capacity ffs, whats so hard to understand? If a 30rd mag is high capacity to you, then wtf do u consider a 100rd drum? “extra” high capacity? and what about a 17rd glock mag? “low” high capacity mag? malaka😂
