Not knowing much about 3D printing, would this gun just confiscated in Winnipeg be totally printed or need to buy parts from the US? How about the barrel?

There are guns that can be 'totally printed' and just need metal functioning parts, but those kinds of guns have always existed. Nine times out of ten when the media talks about 3D printed guns in Canada it's just the polymer bits still requiring, y'know, the actual gun, or a replica of something.

The gun shown has a printed lower. The rest of the parts are available without a license in Canada, you wouldn't even need a PAL.

This is why we don't typically allow 3D printing posts here, unless it's a basic accessory. The optics of the whole thing is massively damaging for the sport. 3D printed lowers on cheap printers are garbage that will literally break with shot #1, but good printers can produce lowers that will withstand sustained use.

Bud, I have an ender 3 upgraded to the tits and I still wouldn't trust a Glock lower to hold up to repeated use coming off that thing, especially with PLA, which is what this thing appears to be.

Handgun lowers are typically fiber reinforced nylon. While you can do nylon on FDM machines, you cannot get the fiber interconnect that you can with injection molding. And the last thing we need is people eating slides when the rails rip out of their printed lowers.

I also have an Ender 3, there are plenty of people out there printing frames on them (PrintShootRepeat, see on YouTube). Besides, the majority of the stress on a polymer pistol frame is seen on the slide rails which have to be metal anyways.

Even if the rails are metal, the bit where they have to interlock and not rip out of the plastic is still plastic.

No, it can't. No FDM machine can produce high quality parts. It is impossible due to inter-layer weakness.

There's a dude on /guns who prints CETMEs that hold up under sustained .308 mag dumps. Lots of Glock builds in PLA+ that people are getting 1000s of rounds out of, and should the frame crack the plastic to print a new one is like $5.

I'm the mod, it comes with the territory. That's why I do this under an alt and not my main.

Edit: I'd personally love to have free reign on 3D printed stuff here. Inrange recently had a makers' match that was really cool. I have two printers next to me chugging along all day making various things. You SHOULD be able to print a Glock lower, if you have your RPAL, and call in and register it. That should be 100% within the scope of the license. However, the government (and to a large extent, the general public) doesn't like that and in the interests of keeping us off the news, we're being deliberately limiting on it.
