Misc Air Canada took away my bullet keychain...
Security guy said it looked like a replica bullet. It literally was a rifle slug with a hole drilled sideways through it and a key ring on it.
Woke crap. No wonder they're all scared. They don't know anything about bullets...

Air Canada doesn't do airport security. It was CATSA. Air canada does in fact allow you to ship firearms and live ammo in checked baggage.

I was wondering about this. I'm assuming the OP wanted to carry it on the plane, but I know for a fact you can fly with firearms and live ammo as long as you follow procedure.

u/MostEnergeticSloth 8d ago
Any projectile is deemed prohibited for carry-on. I had a bag of 45-70 projectiles, literally just the lead, obviously no powders/primers/cases, and they wouldn't let me through. Had to hand it back to my dad who was seeing me off. I thought it was crazy because it's lead, and they even said (because I asked), wheel weights would be perfectly fine, but the labelling matters to them. Even plastic BB's are prohibited for carry on I was told, because they're projectiles.

Same thing happened back in 2011 to a buddy of mine; he just threw it in the trash, no big deal (he didn't care)
Now the time some of us got pulled for random testing annnnd some of us tested positive for explosive residue, well, that was fun ... Trying to explain that we are CF, had a field ex a few days ago, etc LOL

Sorry, how is this woke?

Dude brings a "replica bullet" on a plane and blames CATSA for his own stupid decision.

lol it’s a piece of metal, they should do their due diligence and give it back. No need for that.

u/cernegiant 8d ago
OP is stretching the word replica here almost as much as they stretched the word woke.

You mean like OP thinking that Air Canada runs airport security? Is OP thus woke?

"Woke crap."
Brother is this the first time you've flown since before 9/11? Overly cautious regulations like this have been around for decades.
12
u/cernegiant 8d ago
Woke has really lost all meaning.
Air Canada didn't do anything, they don't run airport security.
This has been in the regulations for decades now.
You lost a cool key chain because you know nothing.

u/chubbyshart 8d ago
I accidentally forgot a 22-250 keychain in my bag and they took it from me, of course they did, it's a freaking bullet, doesn't matter if it's live or not. It was an idiotic move on my behalf, has nothing to do with woke politics that's a foolish take on something and it sounds like you probably use that excuse for anything you don't agree with.

u/DJJ0SHWA 8d ago
"Woke crap" stop making us look bad dude. You brought, what looks like, a bullet, through an airport security checkpoint, lost it and now youre all flustered making an stupid post on reddit whining about it.

u/Expert_Document6932 8d ago
This happened to me before, with an empty shell casing on a key chain 😂. I just started leaving it in my car before I fly.
2
u/haberdasher42 8d ago
You've either never flown in your life or haven't in the past 25 years. If you thought their policy on bullets were bad you should see how they feel about water bottles.

Security guy is an idiot. Is it worth the hassle to debate - probably not for a cheap item like that.
5
u/cernegiant 8d ago
The security guy didn't write the regulations

u/milanskiv 8d ago
Point me to a regulation that talks about “replica bullets”? I will wait.

I accept your inevitable and gracious apology.

You are right. Also, wow that’s a stupid rule for something that can be easily verified as inert

u/VanillaHighlights 8d ago
Dude, a full plastic bright orange vaguely gun shaped kids toy can get blocked by security. Inert doesn't mean shit.
2
u/cernegiant 8d ago
It doesn't really bother me that much, I can understand why it's a hard and fast rule and you can always toss it in your checked baggage.
Though I do fear the day I accidentally bring live ammo with me.
One time after getting my car detailed I got some strange looks when picking it up because I had a bunch of ammo in my centre leftover from hunting season.

Cute little rule followers, can tell who handed their guns in.
2
u/cernegiant 8d ago
So what do you do when you fly? Take your bullet keychain with you then when it's confiscated you just walk out of the airport because you don't want to follow a stupid rule?
-10
u/preferablyoutside 8d ago
You must wake up every morning roiling with hatred you can no longer tell the teacher on other children running in the halls.
I think overall most of Canada Border Securities rules are utterly asinine and are part of a structure to ensure their union receives a larger and larger sum as their workforce increases while their actual usefulness decreases. We live in an autocratic society of increasing bureaucratic overreach and this is embarrassing to any and all of us that a single person on here is defending the slack jawed goons at our gates.
Additionally it is a national embarrassment that Air Canada still exists as it is barely a D List carrier by any European standard and a C- compared to most of the US.

Why are you throwing a tantrum about this. The rules are clearly written and he didn't follow them. How do you think that interaction should have gone?
2
u/cernegiant 8d ago
Could you just answer the question please?
You obviously detest anyone that follows the rules that allow them to board an airplane, so I'd like to hear your alternative approach.
-3
u/preferablyoutside 8d ago
Unfortunately in an instance like this your only recourse is to file a formal complaint,
Due to the Liberals Sodderkommando like yourself we live in a world of asinine bureaucracy invading every inch of our lives.
2
u/cernegiant 8d ago
That's just rules following with extra steps. You have so much anger and self rigorous rage and that's the best you can come up?
And formal complaint to who exactly?
CATSA specifically prohibits bullet keychains. So what's the meat of your complaint?
Come on man work with us here, lead us to the better future.
And just FYI people who point out that a rule exists are not agreeing that such a rule should exist. Most folk learn this in kindergarten, but it's ok it took you a little longer.

u/preferablyoutside 8d ago
Unfortunately having travelled has exposed me to different countries air travel and while I’m sure people appreciate your jingoism, Canada is utter shit to fly in or out of. You can really tell how little life experience others have by their blind endorsement of policy by automatically complying. Utilizing any and all tools at your disposal including a complaint process is sometimes the best that can de done.
At the end of the day the rule is utterly stupid, like most rules and the people it’s designed to stop will circumvent it as unlike yourself they don’t worship it on its alter merely for being a rule.
Really irked you in kindergarten that you had to take turns being the playground patroller and couldn’t wear the vest and carry the whistle everyday, as god forbid those other children ran at recess.
4
u/cernegiant 8d ago
Can you point out where I expressed any jingoism? Can you point out where I endorsed these rules? Can you point where I worshiped this or any other rule?
While you're doing that could you actually answer any of the questions I asked?
1
u/preferablyoutside 8d ago
Your unflagging support of a rule you yourself called stupid amounts to what I can only describe as blind obedience, kind of like a dog that’s been kicked yet still grovels for scraps from its owner. I’d say that’s worship,

You don't need "based in Alberta" on your profile. It's pretty easy to tell.

Makes me glad actually, that’s an exceptionally high compliment even from the likes of yourself.
I prefer to not sleep under the hobnailed jackboot of extremism like many on here embrace.

I would file several of your detailed, passionate opinions as extremist but go off queen.
At least you've got gumption.

The security guy who took it away doesn't work for Air Canada, they work for CATSA. This has been a CATSA policy for a very long time. Years ago I had dummy ammunition seized by security when returning home from CANSEC in Ottawa. I don't think you've ever been allowed to fly with anything resembling ammunition in your carry-on, at least not in my lifetime.
