Just Remember Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree was caught on tape admitting the program is bad policy but politically motivated and that he would personally bail out lawbreakers.
Those comments alone should of caused this entire program to be scrapped and cost that fool his job
So many things should have absolutely tanked the Liberals but apparently Pollievre is “mean” or something?
And Mark Carney is also the anti-America candidate despite moving businesses there, moving his family, and lying about being wholly invested in their economy. Compared to Pierre who has lived here his whole life.
I’m not sure maybe if you watch enough CBC they explain it in a way that makes sense
Effective propaganda mobilizes the population and those who reject it are outliers. Think of the propaganda of Nazi Germany. It swayed many brilliant Germans to the Nazi cause. Propaganda is emotional manipulation, which is why it works on smart people too.
I know a lot of older liberal voters and they couldn't stomach voting for Trudeau again, a lot where gonna jump to the NDP. they felt so relieved when the old white man started running the party again and ran back to the libs.
im not sure if you havent noticed by now, but politics is as much a personality contest as it is a question of policy choices. Pollievre is just not likeable to most canadians
I often say that politics is just a popularity contest in which we vote for the slickest liar. The politicians say what ever they think will get votes, and then do what ever they want once they are in power. We've been following this archaic ritual for generations now.
My position is that who we vote for has very little meaning. We ought to vote directly on the laws, vote recorded via blockchain publicly, and the job of the politician is to directly implement the will of the people. If they fail to implement the laws as voted upon within a reasonable time they are fired, the same as anyone who can't execute their job responsibilities, and we let someone else take a shot
I've been wanting this for so long. The common man deserves a lot more influence on their own life/community than just filling out a ballot every 2-5 years where all we can really do is vote for the lesser of 6 evils. I'd rather the people vote directly on legislation than elect a bunch of corporate goons to propose bills against our own interest and there's nothing we can do about it, and there needs to be more avenues to peacefully remove inept/corrupt politicians from office instead of just sitting around waiting for an election to be called.
So more of a direct democracy then? More control over individual issues instead of total reliance on an elected representative? Or maybe splitting the responsibility with some direct voting and some representative voting in parliament? I am intrigued. 🤔
I would describe it as direct democracy. Politicians are permitted to submit proposals for changes to laws or new bills, and so are citizens. Citizens who need assistance with structuring the legalities of the proposal and submitting their proposals and bills would be assisted by the representatives, and the legal assistance would be provided by the same teams that provide legal assistance to the current politicians.
Forget about representative votes: we don't need it. The people vote directly. The people who are most interested in a specific topic or legality are likely to be the most well informed and more likely to vote. The more important the issues are the more people will vote.
There would still be propaganda, CBC news commentary, lobbyists and institutions who try to change or influence public opinion; that happens already and probably wouldn't change that much. It is and would be the job of the citizens to properly educate, inform themselves and spread awareness on the issues that are important to them.
The votes would be recorded on public blockchain so that any attempts to hack the vote would be recorded for all posterity, for later examination etc
I’ve noticed. Canadians are either irredeemably dumb or blinded by propaganda(probably both). They elected Trudeau 3 times and then his replacement. Neither are even genuine or charismatic characters. There’s no point in picking your leaders to try to please their impossible standards.
I would argue that Pierre isn't mean. He's just unelectable as party leader. He needs to fire his campaign manager. When Carney became leader people saw him with his multiple credentials and his ability to speak in more then three word slogans as a better option. The Conservatives are also having a big problem with how they are seen as no better then the Republicans in the US. Parties like the UCP are not helping with that image. Also remember that the vast majority of Canadians don't give a shit about us and our guns and would be quite happy to just let the current situation continue. By that I mean our guns are stuck in our safes and the government isn't even going to pay us for them. One last note Pierre may have lived here his entire life, but he hasn't done anything but be a MP. Even worse is he has said that people shouldn't be a career politician, and yet he is one.
I didn't vote Liberal and never will. I also won't vote Conservative because they don't represent what I want to see governing our country. I vote NDP but even they are hard to vote for as they have dropped the working class as a priority. Maybe Avi will change that.
That's all I heard when he was campaigning after he lost his seat. I live in his riding (Alberta). I attended a couple of his rallies. Sure he spoke about how bad the liberals where but there was nothing of substance in his speeches. But then again running in the safest conservative seat in the country he doesnt even need to try.
All I ever heard from him was how bad the Liberals where and nothing of substance. That and I just dont trust the conservatives to do anything good for the people. Much like the liberals they are only in it for the power and money.
The next one will be labeled the same, just as Scheer and O'Toole were. It will go down this way until the Laurentian Elite get one of their guys as CPC leader, then the Liberals will be "allowed" to loose because the CPC won't be a threat to the powers that be.
Both Doug Ford and Jason Kenney(both neolib swamp monsters) are actively jockeying for his spot. The media knows this and that’s why there is the greatest smear campaign in history going on. Like the media is more focused on made up internal squabbling of the CPC and covering anonymous sources than the dumpster fire that is Canada with the LPC actually in charge.
We either stand now or it’s completely over. Everyone needs to rally around Pierre right now or voting will really make no difference. Not even that Pierre is perfect, I have lots of critiques but it only gets worse from here.
I think he is seen as a career politician who has been ineffectual. Combine that with his appealing to the fringe right to win leadership (truckers, crypto, etc), and the centre stays away now that Trudeau is gone. A bowl of waxed fruit could have beaten Trudeau.
Cons need an adult in the room along the lines of Harper.
The conservatives have a major image problem. They are seen as maple mega and while this might not be Pierre's views, he has cozied up to the far right a bit to much. When the Liberals start losing in the polls they always bring up how the conservatives will remove abortion rights, and introduce gun laws along the 2A. That's enough for people not to vote for them. I think this last campaign was the first time that it wasn't brought up, but the Liberals also didn't drop in the polls like Trudeau was. The conservatives need to purge their ranks of the Preston Manning Reform party types before they can move forward.
Again, thanks for proving my point. Any system that elevates people like Trudeau and Carney on the premise they are uniquely “likeable” is wrong and flawed. Canadians will suffer until they learn this
Sorry but I think Carney is way more qualified for the position at this time. Still didnt bote Liberal. Articulate and intelligent beats the shit the Conservative are throwing.
