Buy recommendations Cabella's WTF
I ordered a Garmin Xero C1 since they are were on sale for $140 off. The order was placed on Aug 14. Still hasn't shipped. Here is what I get from them today.
They want $120 to ship the thing saying its a Hazmat item. LMAO
I will be ordering directly from Garmin, with FREE shipping.

You can use maplegun to find gear sales. It's not perfect, but I usually find enough of a deal to consistently use it.
I typed in Garmin xero c1 and it came up with a sale at North Pro in Sask. Roughly $150 off.
Maplegun has helped me find a few shops I didn't know about. It's decent.

I was looking at these from Amazon, their courtiers don't have a problem.
For reference the problem is the battery in the unit, it can't fly via air.
Cabela's has gone to crap since the Bass Pro take over. Even shipping on ammo from them is now ridiculous.

I went there for my first shotgun. I asked what the choke type is for my shotgun. That sales person told me a wrong one. So I went back and ask if they have the one I want, that guy didn’t check and just said no. Then I actually found it there. Just trash 🚮

Used to run the gun counter at a Cabela’s. End of the day, you pay minimum wage, you get minimum wage workers.

I've also found that most of the people at the gun counters aren't firearms enthusiasts either. they know just enough to answer some standard questions, but not much else.
not that I really blame them tbh, work is work and most probably didnt or wouldnt choose to be stationed in that specific department, it just sucks sometimes in those situations where you're looking for something specific

This makes no sense. Minimum wage doesn't mean you have the right to just not to your job. Looking up inventory in their system is the bare minimum for their job. If they are frustrated with their station in life, this is canada, there's opportunity to find other work. Stop advocating for shit work ethic just because they receive minimum wage.

I bought a Benelli M4 from Cabella last year during their Black Friday sale. They had the best price and other places were either sold out or slightly more expensive.
Big mistake, took them a month to fulfill the order (even though it was in stock at the store I want to pick up from.)
The folks behind the counter were nice and all but I spent literally an hour and half standing there while they were trying to find the store manager to sign out the gun. The whole process is so convoluted and disorganized.

It has appreciated in value by about $300, lol. That's the thing I liked most about it.
Yeah, it's a lot of fun but in retrospect I should have bought a 1301 and a Turknelli for a similar sum. Great gun and all but the M4 is simply overpriced.

I went to buy ammo on sale and they wanted me to sign in with all my info and reasons for being there so I could be put on a list just to be seen at the counter.
Oh yeah I really want them to have more records of me being in their store... /s

That’s a thing.
Had a lawnmower from Home Depot that got stuck at a purolator location for months because that’s where they realized that it had Lithium ion batteries.4

If it's tagged on their system in that way, then the shipping option they presented you with at the time of purchase shouldn't have been available.
This update is something they should be eating the cost of, especially considering it is in fact, not hazmat.
I have literally ordered the Tactacam Reveal solar panel and rechargeable batteries from them and never had any issues. This makes no sense.

I am not familiar with the item (i haven't looked it up)... Does it come with a large battery?
I work in IT and quite often, we have to deal with this kind of shit for certain things like Laptops when shipping. And its hit or miss.

It's a chronograph. It has a lithium ion battery. I was a network admin for 20 years and never had any issues getting a rechargeable mouse delivered. lol

It's "dangerous goods", not hazmat.
That would be UN3481 Lithium Ion Battery packing instruction 966/967 depending if it's with equipment, or contained in equipment. FedEx can only air ship that to the nearest dangerous goods shipping centre, usually the towns with the airport, and you'd have to pick it up off of them.
Otherwise, Purolator can ship it ground to any address so long as it has the UN3481 label on it.
They don't have any dangerous goods specialists or training is all. They could have tried to ship it and it got rejected, because, nobody gets paid for that.

Garmin itself will have it to me by Tuesday. They must have teleportation abilities that bypass the dangerous goods. I don't know how they were planning on shipping it via air when it is in Vaughn and I am in Chatham.

Oh there are exceptions if the battery is below 100Wh, it must be exempted.
Those can even go in passenger aircraft cargo holds.

In that instance the watch has an incorporated battery, where it is not removeable or designed to be removed, just like some phones or laptops. There can be exemptions for couriers to accept these items and ship them without them being declared as hazardous cargo. Its entirely possible that your Xero could qualify as well but I don't know anything about the item and its battery.

Lithium batts are code E0 and dont have excepted quantities though. FedEx can ship DG but you if you are a business you have to have a dangerous goods contract set up with FedEx to do so. That being said, usually FedEx will ship things like laptops and phones that are UN3481 without a DG contract so long as the packaging meets the standard, I see no reason why this couldntt have shipped but I dont have all the details and dont want to speculate too much.

Carcajou currently has them on sale for 559 too. I would just cancel the order from Cabela's and either order through them or Garmin as you said.
UPS is literally the ammo shipper for tenda. No idea what crack they're smoking.

I used to buy almost all my stuff from cabelas years ago. Now I’ll buy ammo cans if on Sale and occasionally 22 shells that are on sale. I ordered a choke tube last week from them cause they were the only ones with stock other than Amazon but 40$ cheaper surprisingly but a lot of their stuff is crazy priced and they just have always had over the top policies

Do you live in the territories? I've ran into similar issues when I lived there. batteries and ammo couldn't be air mail (by the Southern airlines) and Purolator were the only ones requiring their northern drivers to be licensed to carry it.
Northern airlines could have done the shipment but can't really expect Southern companies to know what small airlines to transfer their goods to. That's why some people just order their stuff to a northern shipping company which handles it from there.

Amazon is usually more expensive then your local shops in my expierence. Depends on the item of course, and the next day delivery is convienent, but its not always the cheapest.
