Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Hate to say it but IMO the biggest chance would be the NDP making a comeback. Carney has pissed off a lot progressives by shrinking the public service, bailing out rich condo developers, back to work orders on unions, and promising to build pipelines. The issue is people voting for Carney not because they like him but due to fear mongering from the LPC telling potential NDP voters that they’re the lesser of two evils. Oddly enough the NDP somehow winning, however unlikely they would be, would be better for us than another LPC win.

Pierre has a solid base that could otherwise win at least a minority if it weren’t for Carney being able to campaign on Trump/US politics rather than Canadian politics.

Democratic socialists like Lewis are champions of civil rights and in many cases personal property rights. It’s private ownership of the economy socialists tend to criticize or advocate for different arrangements on (public ownership, co-operatives, etc.) not someone’s personal processions.

Owning a gun is not like owning a mine or factory or grocery store.

Guns are the one area where a conservative government migjt be better but Lewis’ ideas on a public option for telecoms, build out of social housing, a wealth tax, improved EI, strong regulation of AI and a public pharmaceutical manufacturer (so we can make cheap generic drugs like Canada actually did a few decades ago) are all good policies.

Depends of the socialist. For some, the lines of personnel and private property are blurred, at least in discussion.

Sure, but I don't think Canadians care about those issues in the way we would like to think they do.
