No. They do not. They have little to no privacy rights. Cops act with impunity while we hold them accountable to civilian comitties. And now their bodily autonomy is in flux.
Freedom of speech and property. Honestly inalienable rights in general. Our cops also act with impunity. Looking up “rcmp Mr big operation” they can legally entrap you.
Section 1 of the charter
"The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society."
I’m not one of those doomers that loves America and hates Canada but people really need to get there head out of their ass and acknowledge our shortcomings.
We have freedom and expression which encompases more than mere speech and property rights.
We have mandatory citizen reviews for any police involved shooting and they are not toothless. We hold our cops a lot more accountable than they do in the states.
Mr. Big operations have been terminated from standard practice and cops get in a lot of shit for them which usually ends up with charges being dropped. There was one in recent history that was used to get a confession that the judge allowed to be kept in due to the severity of the crime. And technically it's illicitning a confession not entrapment. Entrapment is when a cop tells you to go commit a crime.
Our inalienable rights to life, liberty, and security of person. As per section 7 of the charter. Ever country has limits to their rights, thats the whole reason prisons are allowed to exist.
We absolutley have our shortcomings but to say we're less free is just lies.
