Darn, if only there wasnāt a handgun freeze in place, he could keep it. Surely out of respect for poly, heāll turn over this weapon of mass destruction!
Edit: wow⦠he did actually turn it over to the RCMP⦠lame

Does he even have a license tho tbh

u/coniferslav Jul 10 '26
Considering his roots I could imagine he'd at least have or had a non-res pal

In the interview that followed, he said he doesn't have any license, so maybe in his young time when he was a real Albertan cowboy, but not anymore.

Interesting. Why cant they make the ones they send us like that š

They do, there's just no market for higher end Turkish branded firearms in Canada, let alone handguns. They're seen as the cheap options now and it'd be really hard to convince clients otherwise.
The reality is that the Turks (just like the Chinese or Asian manufacturers) can turn out some amazing stuff depending on what you pay for and how involved of a distributor/retailer you want to be.
You can request certain QA/QC processes as part of your contract, even spare parts, warranty processing, etc. This is what the bigger players offshoring their manufacturing in Turkey are doing (such as CZ).
A lot of smaller NATO countries actually rely on the larger Turkish manufacturers (Sarsilmaz or Yildiz being 2 big ones) for their small arms, especially the crew served, belt fed firearms like M2 Brownings.

I don't think Sarsilmaz or Yildiz in Canadian market but Sarsilmaz afaik has some stuff in US, especially handguns. But I don't know the Canadian market.
Let me give a funfact, in Turkey it is crazy hard to get anything that is not pistol or smoothbore. So most of the investment goes to shotguns and pistols for civilian market. Military related manufacturers are able to do its own thing since they are well funded by government. That is one of the reasons why we don't see almost any decent .308 or similar caliber guns for civilians and why military stuff is relatively more affordable. Few exceptions for civilian market here and there but compared to shotguns, it is like nothing.

I have a Yildiz 12GA O/U and it is a very nice quality firearm. Nice materials and beautiful engravings. Very reliable and feels solid.
I also have a Turkish made Winchester 20ga that is half plastic and the trigger group self destructed.

Well let's just hope and pray it's been deactivated. Lord knows that weapon is too dangerous for Canadians to own.

Damn Canada just got A WHOLE LOT SAFER now that the PM decided to turn in his gift to the RCMP.

Everyone here is going for the Olympic shooter exemption but Carney outdoing everyone with the NATO leader exemption.

Pain brothers and sisters, pain. It's like getting a Rolex and ripping the movement out

Oh please let it be a short barreled revolver. Y'know, just for the extra irony.

Welding that barrel would be the stupidest thing anyone could do... and if I were the president of turkey I'd be super insulted. I would have gifted him a cap gun... engraved... in a lovely, velvet lined wooden box... complete with a roll of caps.

Would we be safe to assume him and the chipmunk added this to the beyond cooked and skewed numbers theyāve dreamt up for the buyback?

Wait! What! Isn't it illegal to ship or import hand guns in and out of CanIndia?
1
u/NeruLight Jul 17 '26
Well people with an authorization letter can import hand guns still. RCMP usually have the job of āretrievingā guns that lack proper paperwork, so I imagine they have the authority to possess and even import it on the PMās behalf, right on the spot in Turkey, or just like call back and have the import āorderā created etc.

Is Carney gonna make a special exemption to bring what his regime calls a Murder Stick back? Just because it's him.
Edit: turns out he decided to destroy it and slap Recep Tayyip ErdoÄan in the face with everyone else. I thought that he would have had it deactivated and put in a display in parliament somewhere instead of trying to illegally keep it without an RPAL, but not full blown destroy it.

I imagine the weight of the gun was too much for his frail little hands to hold properly š

u/Solitaire3006 Jul 09 '26
Oh, now that's funny. If he brings it back to Canada he could serve 5 years in jail. And violating Garry Alphabet's handgun freeze.

Erdogan - an anachronism amongst our so called sheep leaders. Except perhaps Meloni. I can picture her plinking out back with a cig in her mouth.
