Look at it this way, the majority of restricted owners have a backbone. Someone should parse that table and give us a breakdown of restricted vs non restricted. With GSG leading the way( why they have multiple entries?) i wouldn’t be shocked if majority is previously NR firearms.

Wild to me that so many people would willfully disclose NR guns and hand them in. Half the incentive to grab NR's was their lack of registration with the confiscation gang.

Look at the M14 numbers. There's a few thousand. The actual number is estimated to be more than AR-15, so close to if not over 200k.

My thoughts were, when did norinco make the M14, I know they made an M305 but did they actually start making M14’s and I missed out

A lot of these guns were things you could buy at cabelas or canadian tire, so for some "casual" gun owner, who picked up a gsg16 for their kids to shoot, the potential risk wasn't worth it over losing their license or getting charged. Then there is the small number of PAL holders that are die hard LPC supporters.

The big take away is a lot of this stuff is post 2020 OIC shit, "cope guns" that people bought and probably realized will be worthless if the SCoC rules in our favor. I don't agree with the argument but i have seen people say that they would rather get paid for their Wk180c because it was garbage and they know they wouldn't get much for it if other models were legal again.

I also think post 2020 people rushed to buy these guns thinking they wouldn't get banned or would get grandfathered and then after the 2nd and 3rd OIC came down, they decided they would turn them in because they were worried about breaking the law. FOMO was probably created buy the handgun freeze and people thought they might miss out on an opportunity, especially as the ban and confiscation dragged on for years. After a couple years i was becoming pretty confident that they wouldn't do anything else, the government would change or they would revert to some sort of poorly thought out grandfathering scheme.

The Liberal Party practices "big tent politics". The majority of voters don't give a shit about firearms and firearms law. It wasn't a campaign plank in most regions.

So a lot of people were voting Left for other reasons. And somehow the Party came to the conclusion that the small but well organized and militant Anti-Gun demographic needed to be placated.

There are a lot of aspects that make me suspect that, for most of the officials in the Party, their hearts really aren't in this. There's a lot of things that feel like "shooting from the hip" about this.
