"The RCMP centre defines crime guns as firearms that were used or suspected to have been used in criminal offences, guns whose serial numbers have been obliterated or altered, firearms that were found but not reported lost or stolen, and replicas, toys, 3D-printed guns, pellet or air guns that have been used in criminal offences"

So when the police previously said 90+% of guns used in crime were smuggled that was a lie? Or is this the lie?

I think the 90+% number has been reported on by the metropolitan area polices forces. Like Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver etc. The numbers in this article are only for the RCMPs tracing which i would expect to have a high Canadian origin then guns found in the cities. The fact that BB guns, air guns, crossbows, etc get classified as a firearm if used in a crime are also going to increase the number of Canadian origin guns they find used in crimes. Their isn't enough nuance in their reporting. They lump too many categories together to really have a clear picture of how many actual firearms that are used in crimes are smuggled into Canada. And ill end with saying this again, these are only the RCMPs tracing numbers. Not ever polices forces numbers for the whole country.

Correct. Their jurisdiction barely overlaps, hence why ON/QC and many other places are excluded.
