Milsurps / Prohib Not very russian ig
Found this in a shop. It does not seem russian ( even do the tag says it is).

sometimes shop clerks think the x54r is Russian but its Rimmed, because the mosen likes extra pleasure. Unlike the 7.62 / 308 that's not rimed and not what i was expecting to be in the crate.. But lesson learned on my end XD

It's actually really simple, 7.62x54r is soviet ammo. 7.62x51 NATO is American/ 308

Alot of older fellows call it 7.62 russian kinda like how there is 7.62nato. Nato is 7.62x51 and Russian is 7.62x39mm but obviously MANY countries make 7.62x39 and all the Russian calibers
Thats what youll see these days is Chinese surplus, we have embargoes against Russia. Ukraine needs their ammo to fight and their neighbours sell to them cause its easier and more profitable than shipping here. I have seen a trickle of MFS though

It's not always 7.62x39 (for sks and ak's) as there's also 7.62x54r (typically used in mosins)

Absolutely but I just see 7.62x39 referred to as "russian" and 54r usually gets the whole ID or "Mosin Ammo" lol

7.62x54R (and in Canada the R typically stands for Russian) but yeah it’s 100% Chinese not that it really makes a difference if you clean your rifle

Agree it 7.62x54r since the amount count is 440. Wooden create has a total of 880 rounds with two spam cans at 440.

I bought Czech surplus 7.62 54r years ago 1/5 rounds would not fire, the primers were hot garbage

Hard primers is pretty typical for any 762x54 made after the 50s, it's pretty much intended for PKM machine guns exclusively now and sometimes rifle firing pins don't enough punch. I always found the Chinese ammo way worse than anything eastern European, almost useless in an SVT40.

By the markings, I’m guess they were manufactured in 1969? Not Russian ammo, it’s the Chinese ammo manufactured to whoop some USSR ass

I don’t think we get anything Russian anymore, and everything left is old stock. China still comes in. Don’t quote me on that, I don’t know much of anything
