First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

He want to assert that the government has the power to do what they want and if you refuse, even in the millions they will use the state power to squash you. Can't have uppity citizens thinking they can defy the wishes of the government and get away with it. It's about more than guns, it about who is in control, who has the power. If they backtrack now it will be us and they simply can't have that.

If youve seen the reports of how he is with his party it makes sense. Its no a democracy for him, its a company and hes the CEO shot caller. Going agaisnt him is criminal. 

I genuinely cannot wait for mark carney collapse that should allegedly happen soonish. I hope. Recession, dissidents within his party, every provincial government hating him for a different reason, spending like never before while also cutting programs, labor unions getting pissed at him, everyone's broke.

Its just his boomer supporters at this point.

God wouldn’t it be amazing if Manitoba joined in.

Say what you want about the NDP, but if they ever threw their hat in the ring it’d be a much larger nail in the coffin for this program since it would be a more progressive party actively fighting this.

Wab and Lewis have both spoken out against the buyback as well

I'm honestly shocked Manitoba hasn't since the premier last I checked hunts and if I remember right also said the gun bans are a load of horse shit paraphrasing of course.

Last I checked Wab literally said the gun ban is dumb. You are conflicting the federal NDP with the prov NDP. The prov NDP is often quite different from the federal NDP (especially under Singh he sucked.) You know the NDP party in Sask straight up supported the conservative leading party on opposing the gun ban as well right? I get it the federal NDP has been pretty fucking cringe and the BC NDP is not fucking helping the case of the NDP not being anti gun. But it's pretty broad strokes to say the NDP period is anti gun at every level.

At every level? No

At most levels? Yes.

Remember that the federal NDP switched to being an urban first party, full time, some time in the 90s or early 2000s. Though, one could argue that the switch happened as early as the 70s I suppose. The majority of the provincial NDP followed suit. And I can't say I necessarily blame them. Only 17% of Canada's population is rural. You go where the votes are, that's how politics works. Sadly, the major population centers are for the most part, anti-gun/anti-gun owner to some degree. Furthermore, the rural and gun owning population have some significant overlap. The NDP aren't particularly interested in supporting or defending gun owners.

If anything, I'd say the Manitoban and Sask NDP are example exceptions that prove the rule.

I would argue that it’s more so a rural urban thing as you mentioned. In provinces that have a higher percentage of rural constituents you are more likely to see the NDP be pro gun. That and just higher percentage of pal holders helps to. Which is something we need to see happen.

Yeah exactly. I AM weary that NDP is simply moving away from the LPC and aren’t committed to truly representing gun owners.

HOWEVER, I think it’d be quite foolish for this community to completely ostracize those on the opposite end of the political spectrum. It makes it easier to dismiss the entire community if people think that “Gun owners = conservative”

It also limited our voice and reach since ideally politicians fight to convince us as constituents that they’d best represent us. Better if the NDP jump in and oppose any future legislation or poor policy - and to those who’d turn their nose up at this concept: would it be better if left leaning parties voted against our better interests in parliament?

I mean there is Winnipeg but they aren’t even at a million people. However I did bring up Sask in that… Which okay fine Sask is pretty much just the slightly more populated version of Manitoba.
